Sorry for my ignorance but how could that knot, (to attach line to spool) get caught up if, like you say you will never come anywhere near the tape so no worries of that pulling out, I don’t see how a knot can come anywhere causing any problems if you’re nowhere near it ? Sorry if I’m missing something, but if you don’t ask you don’t find out things. Cheers
No worries GG. It’s because when you use fine line, knots round the spook can find a way to push line either side of it. So as it peels off it becomes exposed, catching the line. It much worst with braid as it’s thinner

When you fish England’s commercial fishery you need barbless hooks.
For barbless hooks. Mono is better
