      It doesn't matter if the people he shot were white, he shot up BLM protesters, which are obviously people against white supremacy. How do you forget about all of that? Yeah white people were put in prison for protesting during civil rights,not comparing the level of the instances, but obviously if a white supremacist system sees a threat of white people being against it they would suppress them all together regardless of their race. I'm not arguing that he got away because he's white, although that my help, but I know he got away because of stupid gun laws that often favor right wing white people regardless...

      Also there is a big difference between simply just being a white person and being an upholder of oppressive style white culture. Just as there is a difference between being white and enforcing "whiteness". It's really not that complex.

      @@Chris971. i wasn't saying he was right or wrong about the integration of the software that can incorrectly interpolate and add erroneous pixels being present in the apple device zooming, just that it that software does exist and that whether or not that software is in play in a murder trial is a question that should be asked and answered.
      And kudos to the judge for being able to wrap his head around the concept enough to recognize that it should be cleared up.
      People dismissing it out of hand because they don't understand how pictures and video can be and are modified when zooming are being annoyingly arrogant in their ignorance and even if the conclusion is that the software wasn't in play, that doesn't mean that the people dismissing it were correct in dismissing it.
      And I don't think the judge said that it was a problem or not, just that they should know if it is or isn't before allowing the evidence. So I don't think you can say that he was wrong, because he didn't make a positive claim one way or another.

    The prosecution’s “smoking gun” in this case, is essentially a computer created Rorschach test. There’s readily available video footage of the exact same moment from the ground CLEARLY showing Kyle never pointed the rifle, not even for a second.
    In the prosecutions cherry picked video stills, there’s a light colored “blob” they’re claiming is Kyle’s hand, and if you watch the video, (and not just the 2 frames from it) that white blob is there before Kyle even gets there. It’s like the bumper of a car or something, and yet they’re hinging their entire case on it.
    The Defense has been frustratingly lax during this case, not only in objections and allowing bizarrely framed, distorted evidence into the trial, but also in offering obvious, readily available evidence and testimony that could refute everything the prosecution has put forth.

    67, worked in CGI since 1983, used computers way back in the 70's. yes, zooming is interpolating, adding info.
    the simplest way to explain interpolation is if you have nine pixels in an image and six are all the same colour the computer ditches five of the pixels, takes the colour value and assigns it to those five, it actually throws information away. it doesn't "store the pixel" just the location and colour. (0-254).
    when it comes to phones lenses are pretty terrible, look at an SLR then compare that to the pinprick of a lens on a phone. it's software that makes the image, and if you zoom in on digital camera images they are pretty awful. it's why digital cameras have such big lenses.

      @Don Zimmerman from what I gather tracked someone down with the intention to hurt him so he can be a hero, rittenhouse traveled to another state to put out fires and confront people about property damage and had to defend himself due to his poor decisions. If it wasn’t clear I don’t support Zimmerman.

    10:30 They're specifically talking about photo enhancement. Photo enhancement uses mathematical "guessing," or interpolation, based on the surrounding pixels. Those pixels may or may not be a true and accurate representation of reality. The judge made a horrible ruling to allow this image into evidence. Luckily, even the "enhanced image" doesn't even look like anything.

      Agreed. The "expert" couldn't tell the judge anything. It's like me describing 3D modelling software and saying I have no clue how the system scans, modelled or interprets any data but I'm an expert because I produced the 3D model.
      100% that can be appealed if he's convicted based on it. They should honestly object in the closing statement if they start saying " the image shows Kyle rittenhouse pointing his gun". That's something for the jury to decide and the state can't testify about what the jury should see in an image. There's no chance the defence will object though they've been asleep when it comes to objections.

Protesting against faulty police institutions/practices doesn't warrant militarized vigilantyism.

      He seems to assume common interpolation algorithms have some sort of intelligent or heuristic logic, which they (mostly) don't. 99% of image scaling anyone is doing is Bilinear or Bicubic interpolation, which are both just fancy ways of averaging out the surrounding pixels to fill out the missing part. There are machine learning based upscaling algorithms which actually "invent" information, but they're not commonly used.
      I have yet to see a case where those common interpolation methods do something that tricks human perception into seeing something new where there was nothing in the original.
      I would be VERY concerned about video compression algorithms and noise suppression that might have happened on the phone recording the video though - those can and do produce artifacts that look like stuff that isn't really there, and they have a much larger impact than some interpolation. In this case, I think the image is extremely dubious and should not be allowed because it's such a small portion of the image with such low resolution, but not because of the interpolation happening to display it.

    • @ska042

      IMO a somewhat appropriate and intuitive analogy would be this: Imagine a vertical bar chart with 10 bars, fluctuating about. Now imagine the same 10 data points, but shown as a line chart, with a straight line connecting every point. Was data invented? There is none between the points, so you could say the lines suggest there's something there that doesn't exist, but it depends. It would be inappropriate to point at the line chart and suggest that some point between to actual data points is precisely the value the line shows there. However, unless you do that, both charts probably convey the same message in most cases.

    I’ve got my B.S. in Physics. I’ve only ever heard terminal velocity discussed in the context of an object accelerating towards some point while traveling through a fluid (liquid or gas). If you fire a bullet between 0°-90° from the horizontal, it stops accelerating towards the direction it was fired from once it exits the muzzle. Mathematically, terminal velocity requires a net zero acceleration so a bullet fired horizontally doesn’t have a “terminal velocity” because it will experience a drag force (acceleration) in the direction opposite of its motion.

    • @merlotpapi4930
      @merlotpapi4930 2 года назад

      You're right that for a vertically fired bullet, there is a net zero acceleration but only at the apex, the reason why there is a terminal velocity is because Earth is pulling the bullet back down to earth with a constant force G. This produces a constant acceleration g which produces a constant velocity (based on the mass of the object) v_t. A horizontally fired bullet experiences drag that is proportional to distance traveled. That's why snipers have to take into account wind direction despite how powerful sniper rifles are and how big .50 Cal bullets are. A horizontally fired bullet will continue traveling until the force of the Earth's gravity overcomes the work generated by the bullet traveling from the barrel. That's why it curves down. But after the curve, yes there is a terminal velocity.

    • @man.dingus
      @man.dingus 2 года назад

      @@merlotpapi4930 You misread my statement. I said that if a bullet is fired between 0°-90° from the horizontal, it stops accelerating in the direction it was fired once it leaves the muzzle. I didn’t say it ceases to accelerate completely. The second thing I said was that the mathematical definition of terminal velocity requires net-zero acceleration, which won’t happen for a bullet fired horizontally due to drag.
      Moreover, there’s still an acceleration due to gravity at the apex of a trajectory- otherwise objects wouldn’t fall. Perhaps you mean it has zero vertical velocity.

    • @tballa8750
      @tballa8750 2 года назад

      As a fellow physics undergrad, this is correct. Terminal velocity is the balance of forces from drag and gravity. Since gravity is being ignored in a horizontal case there is no force to counteract drag (negligible at least). Fact check true.

      @@man.dingus In the brief moment when the object is still and is about to change direction, the forces acting on it are perfectly balanced so there is zero net acceleration. Obviously gravity provides more work than just drag so that's why the object will eventually fall back to earth.

    8:10 in theory you can hit terminal velocity going any direction (horizontally, vertically etc) but we usually talk about it in cases where air resistance perfectly cancels out the gravity force, which gives constant velocity from newtons first law. The models for air resistance usually scales with v^2, and it varies with the fluid density for instance. If you have some constant force you apply a bullet with continiously, it will due to the fluids resistance (the drag force or air resistance) cancel out at the velocity which yields equal resistance as the applied force.
    However with a gun shot it’s an instantenous force applied, so the concept of terminal velocity doesn’t apply in the horizontal direction. The total velocity when the bullet lands will be the
    sqrt(terminal velocity in y-direction^2 + whatever remaining horizontal velocity^2). This is given that the angle of the initial shot is steep enough for terminal velocity to be reached in the vertical velocity component, which I would think is a safe assumption.
    For straight up shot the velocity it will hit the ground with is just the terminal velocity, which will be less since you just have one less squared term in the total velocity equation

    • @sverre1611
      @sverre1611 2 года назад +1

      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity
      Terminal velocity refers to the gravity force specifically, so referring to horizontal terminal velocity doesn’t make sense.
      But as explained you can apply a constant forces in horizontal direction. Then that force will eventually be cancelled out by the drag force, which will be at a certain velocity. Lets say a car’s max force applied in a horizontal straight line (ignoring things like friction), you can maybe say that this car has a «terminal velocity», given perfect wind conditions.
