One of my highest viewed videos is my 'Replacing Fluorescent Kitchen Light with New LED Fixture'. I installed this Hampton Bay fixture from Home Depot in October of 2016. Approximately 1 year and 8 months later this fixture stopped working. I contacted the Home Depot/Hampton Bay warranty department in addition to the manufacturer and received a new driver under warranty. This replacement was easier than the initial installation.
As Always, Thanks for Watching!

Thank you for the video. I was amazed when my LED ceiling fixture in the kitchen started humming and blinking a few weeks ago after only 2-3 years of service because LEDs are supposed to last for over 10,000 hours and not need ballasts! Well, it looks like the lights DO still work and they DON'T use ballasts...they use CONTROLLERS! What the hell is the difference! They are both a pain the ass to replace and much harder to change than a light bulb!
As an electrician, i never install integrated LED light fixtures. They are a scam. Get a standard fixture and use a line-voltage LED bulb. :-)
Where did you get the replacement driver?
Every driver is different. They are not very expensive but you have to find a replacement driver with the same specifications as what you already have.
Great video, another good tip is that Home Depot will basically swap the defective unit out without questions if that’s where you bought it.
Thanks! This video was a million times more helpful than the company that makes the light, I am looking forward to getting it repaired.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks @Thrifty Garage ! Just watched this video, read the comments, followed the steps and called Cordelia Lighting, a replacement driver will be shipped to me. Thank You!
Where can I find Hampton Bay LED driver replacement
Paul an LED driver is a common component in any LED light. Comparability is what you are looking for. Look at the specs which should be written on the driver. Order a replacement driver with the same specifications.
@@ThriftyGarage Thanks so much
I too have the same fixture. I have called Home Depot, Hampton Bay, and Cordelia Lighting. They each in turn told me to get in touch with the other. None of them could furnish me with a driver. None of them carry the driver and told me that it was manufactured overseas and spare parts were not available. If it was under warranty home depot would switch out the unit. Good Luck finding a replacement part. This adventure has taught me a lot about buying from Home Depot and Home Depot brand products. I will not fall prey to their ways again. today is Jan 20th 2020
I'm sorry to hear that they did not honor your warranty. I must have been lucky enough to get a replacement one. I was careful not to share with them that I would be sharing my experience on RUclips because I wanted to ensure that they didn't give me any special treatment.
Next time, just buy the whole new fixture and swap the drivers out and return it. I don’t think that’s unethical at that point since they’re refusing to help you with their defective product. You tried to pay them money for a new one and they were of no help, so that’s on them.
@@ryspace Or just buy a line voltage fixture in the first place so you can replace the bulb yourself with an LED bulb you have in that kitchen drawer with all the other stuff in it. 😀
hello, is there a way to know if its the light that has a problem or the driver?
Where can I get a replacement driver for this light fixture?
Mine just stopped working after 5 years when it was really hot outside, which heated up my attic, which might have heated up my light fixture. After the temps dropped, it started working again after a few days. Not sure if this is the reason why, but I am keeping my fingures crossed.
Your LED Driver might be going out...
where can i get replacement LED Driver
Great video, Just find it strange that you'd have links to almost everything except the dimmer itself.
There is no dimmer.
It is dimmer capable if you connect the included dimmer wire to a dimmer.
Where did you purchase the replacement driver?
No purchase required. It was covered under warranty. They mailed me a new one.
Thank you. I have this exact fixture. Can you recommend a smart/wifi dimmable driver? if possible could you please provide exact product and or link?
This fixture is capable it dimming. You need to hook up the purple wire to a dimmer switch.
@@ThriftyGarage Thank you, but I don't live in the US... I would like to convert this have a either a smart switch but would really prefer a smart controller.
@@ThriftyGarage I have a dimmer switch in the wall, how do you connect the purple wire?
It should have a wiring diagram. It may depend on your switch or outlet which is the correct wiring procedure.
Was the led flickering? I recently installed a led ceiling lamp, and after 5 minutes on it starts flickering like crazy, like turing on and off. We didnt install it immediately after pirchasing and the warranty has passed. Not sure what the issue is. Could it be the driver?
Could be that or a grounding issue. Ours died because our old apartment building was having grounding issues that were causing power surges/flickering that eventually killed the light (seems that way anyway). Not sure if it killed the driver or LED strip, but I’m pretty sure it’s the driver.
That was easy. I’m half way complete with the project.
Good deal!
Hello I have the same lamp where you buy the item ??
Where did you get the driver? How can I know if the driver i order is right for my fixture?
Thanks for the vid!
Open up the light and look at your driver. It should show specifications. You can buy them online.
@@ThriftyGarage thanks!
Good video. How did you determine it was the driver vs the lights themselves?
The driver went bad. The LEDs still work great and the light is 100% functional now that I have installed a new driver. Thanks for Watching!
Why is no one answering the question as to where the to find the part?
Every driver is different. They are not very expensive but you have to find a replacement driver with the same specifications as what you already have.
Great video. I can’t find a driver anywhere. It’s been hell looking for it. Do you have a link to the manufacture? Also how much was it?
I contacted Home Depot/Hampton Bay's warranty department (855-HD-Hampton (855-434-2678)) and they provided a new led driver under warranty.
Jay Kokernak commented: "Was told by Home Depot the manufacturer for the driver is cordelia.com/
They can be contacted for a replacement if you are not under warranty."
Thrifty Garage thanks so much
Is this LED driver available in market? Of an alternative led driver that might do the work. Mine stopped working, no warranty and I need to replace the driver. Please suggest. Thanks.
Find another led driver with the same specs.
@@ThriftyGarage Which specs am I trying to match? There is a lot of info on the driver.
Yes, there will be voltage ratings and other information printed. If you do not match the driver to the LEDs as they were designed you could reduce the life of the LED or ruin them completely.
This looks nothing like the driver on my 32" Hampton that is seven years old! I have not been able to find a compatable driver so I guess I will have to replace the whole unit!!
Read the specs. You can order LED drivers online so long as you know the specs.
Where can I find the replacement driver?
You will need to look at the specs and find one that matches. Replacements can be found online.
Hi, may you tell me where I can buy the same LED driver for it? Thanks
TRC ELECTRONICS, INC. TEL 1- 215- 367- 5431 ASK FOR DELANEY WALKER
I have been trying to google where to find the manufacturer telephone number, where did you find it? and are you able to share? Thank you
Literally skipped all the preliminary stuff… I still need to know about diagnostics and components.
Where can you buy the driver?
You should be able to buy an led driver online at and electronic parts store. You could probably even find one on Amazon. You will want to check for compatibility with input and output specifications such as volts, amps and watts. I was fortunate enough to have this covered under Home Depot's warranty. They just looked up my receipt on their warranty system.
@@ThriftyGarage Thanks for the video, nice job. I have two of these fixtures. The first one was covered under warranty. They sent me another complete light. Tonight the second fixture stopped working. I'm going to use this driver, the same specs:

Add a ground or they will keep dying
Interesting... I have never heard this. The house was built in 1942 so it only had two wires.
How hard is it to add a grounding wire? My apartment building was having surges/flickering issues especially in the kitchen where we have this fixture. I was told it was probably a grounding issue. I think the grounding issue and power cutting in and out cooked the driver. The building maintenance is useless and wanted to replace the whole fixture with a super cheap looking/crappy one. They tried to tell me they can’t find a replacement for that same fixture. I found it in five minutes at Home Depot online so they begrudgingly went to buy one, but I don’t want it to keep dying so I might have to ground it myself. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!
The lack of replacement drivers is "driving" a lot of otherwise functional technology into the landfill. That's so environmentally irresponsible and honestly, in this age of dwindling resources, it's highly unethical and should be considered criminal. With global economies driving the production of consumables, parts standardization should be required. It would reduce resource and energy consumption and ensure maximum product life. Then there is the "human" factor. People are brainwashed on a daily basis, driven to want the latest "new" product, rather than to maintain otherwise functional devices. It's pathetic how people are manipulated into purchasing decisions that defy logic, reason and responsible stewardship of the planet.
Amen
Why would anyone want a light like this it’s pain in the ass to change the driver
it's a 5-minute job... stick to your desk job... lol
@@patrickhinsey5727 it’s not a 5 minute Job the driver for mine could not be fount Home Depot sold the light but do not carry the the driver so I would need to buy a whole new light instead of a pack of bulbs
Because it looks nice and it’s super bright, but evenly diffused lighting from the shell which is pleasing to the eye. Since they’re LED strips, they probably won’t burn out for decades and honestly the only reason mine died is because the contractors didn’t update the electrical in our apartment building when they remodeled everything and there’s no ground wire connection. We were getting surges and flickering which I think cooked the driver. Reading through the comments it seems OP also didn’t have a ground wire. But yeah once you get a replacement driver (or a different one online with the same specs) it will take five minutes. If installed correctly it should last decades without needed replacements light lightbulbs and it’s probably better for the environment because of that as well.
