Hey i am attending my first mun and my committee is aippm protfolio is durai murugan (dmk) and my agenda is overview of the Indian democracy can u tell me the information and how to prepare for speech and gsl
For MUN, generally the GSL time is 1.5 minutes per speaker. But one can give as many GSL speeches as possible in the whole committee; as after one round of GSL, if all those who had been recognised had spoken, then again the Chairperson starts recognising names for another round. There are formal-informal sessions (moderated caucuses) also, whose time are set by the delegates itself (but per speaker time can't exceed the GSL per speaker time). There can be as many Mod. Caucuses as the delegates want. Committee is an ongoing process. There are Point of Information and many other things. Timing depends on the schedule of the committee, that how many hours it is fixed to. There is no such thing like individual time for debate.
Position paper is like a framework of the points you would like to say during your first speech. Position paper generally covers 3 aspects - i) Your country's position on the topic (i.e., stance of your nation) ii) Your country's relation to the topic, i.e., how or what your country has to do with the topic iii) Proposals of policies, i.e., solutions you want to suggest in the resolution The length of your position paper can be what your Executive Board suggests.
It's a process similar to studying before an examination. The more you research, the more you will know about the topic, diplomatic positions of various countries and be a better Delegate. So there's no particular time for starting a research. The stronger your research is, the better your preparation is. You can follow Global News even when you don't have a MUN to know what's happening in the World.
Yes, you can use smartphone or even a laptop if you want. MUN is not about memorising, it is about how you do research, present the research and solve the problem.
Depends on which committee you join. Like different committees have different agendas. General Assembly has more of general agendas; Security Council has security realted agendas like if any country conflicts with another country; UNHCR has agendas on Refugees crisis. Generally the agenda is pre-decided by the organising bodies.
Your communication skills, leadership skills, and knowledge will develop. You will get exposure to various events happening in the world and also learn how to handle a situation. Also, participation in MUN is considered as an extra credit in your career.
You mean International Press? Here, the person assigned this position investigate committee debates, conduct interviews with delegates present in the committee, edit articles, and cover press conferences. Do you want me to make a complete dedicated video about IP delegation? If yes, then do let me know and I will make a video on the same.
Watch the video carefully. I have explained that thing only that how you can research for your MUN's GSL. There is no particular format. It's like a speech that you need to give on the topic. Research as much as you can. There is no limit. More you research, more knowledge you acquire. While researching don't spend too much time on a single article. Just speed read, extract the summary and main points of the article, and note down every point you feel important and is relevant to the agenda. After all the research works, just connect the most important points that you feel and is absolutely what's the agenda for your MUN, and prepare the speech.
I rewatched the video again. Yes, you are right. Wikipedia is not a legitimate source of research. The video was 2.5 years old, and with time, knowledge and experience evolves. Even in MUN, no one is small or big. Anyone can learn from anyone. There is more to my understanding than what I was 2.5 years ago, which keeps on adding every moment. Now, coming to the ambiguity, official UN websites, legitimate journals or reports, country's national archives and government database should be the primary source of research. Wikipedia often contains some hyperlinks which can be useful to connect to different domains in the same context while researching, and one can even check the 'References' part to get the actual sources of the main articles which can act as a list, from where you can start your research from. However, similar to ChatGPT or any AI bot, Wikipedia too cannot be and is never considered a legitimate source for official information.
It will be good. First timers always have more confusions. You shouldn't surrender to your nervousness and see things from learning point of view. We all have been first fimers someday. Wishing you best of luck for your MUN session.

Hypocrisy is sir is telling to follow and consider Wikipedia which even a second timer won’t endorse.
