I was given a very special pen, the one shown in the thumbnail, by Bob Hedin. Thank you sir!
Thanks to two other amazingly thoughtful and generous subscribers, friends of this channel...now friends of mine, I was able to put these projects together and make this video for you all.
Pens. A seemingly simple project to some, and an impossibility to others. Regardless of where you fall in that wide spectrum, I hope you enjoy what I've presented in this video. Pens are and will always be some of my favorite turning projects.

Tears here. Seriously. I think the piece of sand/ground from Iwo Jima did me in the most, because WWII was my dad’s war. And “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death . . .” Tears again. For He is with us! Grateful tears. Thank you, Rod! God bless you, and, in tribute to your service, Semper Fi!

Thank you for your service. My uncle was a marine who stood at the foot of Mount Suribachi the morning the Flag was raised. He said that He was never so moved by a flag raising as that morning. My Dad, sister, and brother-in-law were all Marines. I am very ptoud of them. ( I was Army)

Put Bella Wood in to google to find out the significance. Came back as Belleau Wood, now I know how it’s spelled; an area that saw horrendous amounts of lives lost. I now see why this small piece of wood could mean so much to you; a distinct possibility that one of your military brothers’ blood had watered it’s roots. A touching tribute you’ve turned. Thank you for your service.

A very nice tribute to our Beloved Corp, Rod. The United States Marines are the finest fighting force since not everyone can become a Marine. The weak and those who lack character and mental strength are quickly weeded out. The Marines only want the best to serve this nation. That’s why they live up to their motto; The Few, The Proud, The Marines. It’s a branch of the service where Honor, Duty and Country are paramount. It’s a branch of service where character of the individual Marine is developed; A Marine Never lies, never cheats or steals; A Marine abides by an uncompromising code of integrity; respect human dignity and respect others.
For me, the USMC taught me how to conduct my life, to never give up and to persevere. The Corp gave me a home, a place to lay my head and a family of fellow Marines. For that I will always be grateful.

I believe the wood might be sycamore. Similar grain to oak, just a bit lighter in color.

All the of them pens not only looked just amazing but wow what history. A bit from both worlds wars is something to be handed down to future generations so it's never forgotten. I hope you had an awesome birthday and have a joyous veterans day.

Well, I went an looked but all the sources for trees in Forêt de Belleau are all in, quel suprise, French. And all I find there are acidophilus forest oak. So it may be Quercus robur, the European white oak used for wine barrels.

It is a shame that so many today have never heard of BELLEAU WOOD, or what happened there in 1918, and what it represents to the U S Marine Corps.
