    The Winchester model 62 used flat springs. The 62A was modified to use coil springs. It is far better for longer life and use. This change started in 1940.

    Good looking rifle! I just picked up an 1890 octagon crescent stock myself in 22LR. I'm looking at it trying to research it a little and see what I can find out.

    I have a few 1890s myself, one in 22 short and a couple 22wrf and a 22lr

      I picked up a beautiful rossi to take the brunt of plinking regularly, my 1906 barely sees use

      @@imthatguy1878 I got a 1890 .22 short that's from 1892. Would you not shoot one that old. I want to start plinking with it.

    Shooting Long Rifle in SHORT or LONG marked barrel will have poor accuracy and a lot of them will key hole. The .22 short and Long barrels were 1 in 20 twist twist rate. the 22 Long rifle was 1 in 16 twist rate and the WRF was a 1 in 14 twist rate. Bore and rifling diameters are also different. Bore diameter. short and long .219 Long rifle .217 WRF .220. Rifling Dia. short and long .224. Long rifle .222 WRF .226. Groove width short and long .0688, Long Rifle .0681, WRF .0691. All had six grooves hope this is of interest to some of you.

      In the 1890, the carrier that brings the round from the tube to the chamber is specifically designed for the length of the cartridge. A 22 long or 22 lr would not fit and jam the gun

    • @Copperheadroad1
      @Copperheadroad1 7 месяцев назад

      yes I agree. However the carriers can be changed out or a model 1906 carrier can be swapped out and it will allow the use of short, long and long rifle to be fired in and 1890 I am just informing people that all thought that will work the twist rate is different and the .22 Long rifle fired out of a barrel that is short or Long will not be as accurate.

      It is to me. I had my WRF rebored but the smith used a .22 long rifle insert. Seems to be good, but always bothered be a bit.

    God bless you sir Jesus name. I dug out our old family 1890 .22 short and just got it back from being looked over and cleaned by a gunshop. Ours was manufactured on Dec 6th, 1892. I'm going to make it my Starling gun!!! What kind of distance have you found this gun can handle???

      "What kind of distance have you found this gun can handle???" I have a 1929 model 1890 in 22LR that will hit a 6" plate at 100 yards with the factory iron sights. Granted, this is the most accurate model 1890 I have ever had, I have found them to be very accurate in general.

      @@nickdipaolofan5948 I've gotten much more used to it by now. Need to stretch the distance on paper targets, learn the drop.

      @@tylerbouck3555 right on! I have another model 1890 that I am building from spare parts. I purchased a brand new reproduction barrel and installed a Lyman 17a front globe sight and a lyman tang sight on it. Basically trying to turn it into a gallery gun with target sights and a fresh barrel. I'm curious how much more accuracy I can squeeze out of the model 1890, haha.
      They will never be a bench rest rifle, but it is fun to test their limits.
