Interesting analogy in terms of vocalist.....I'd say Anita has a much huskier voice....expressive, soulful, ample range and reach.....but Lindsey's is as you characterize a lighter, upper register of the melodic scales.....but soulful.....yes.......sexy....incredibly.....sells the lyrics emotionally.....yes, and incredibly stellar musicians on their respective instruments. I could listen to this tune over and over.....without tiring. Incredible keyboard accompaniment.......!
You know who also has the vocal timbre and tools to perform the vocal to this composition flawlessly? I'd nominate the one and only Chaka Khan...... just listened to her cover of Through the Fire....that woman has or had the best vocal skills and probably a 3 or 4 octave range, plus incredible sustain, vibrato and note holding skills, of anyone save Barbara Streisand in the last 30 years that I can think of......if one is a vocalist, they could do no better than listen to Chaka on Through the Fire......my God, what a vocal gift/talent!

I first heard this beautiful song on a static filled muzak recording while on hold with the doctor's office. So good I had to Soundhound it. That's how I discovered Lindsey Webster- been a strong fan ever since.

SoulandJazzLIVE! Love the music in the U.K. that you folks do there. Very creative and soulful. Unfortunately here in the U.S., this type of music is not played often because of the lack of creativity. It's more superficial than the quality of vocal talent like Lindsey here. Today's perspective is that sometimes it isn't only about the primary entertainer......it is the song, composition and chordal progressions, lyrics, the arrangement, and where you are taken as a listener when absorbing all that beautiful melody, lyrical content, emotion, and musical instrumentation. It's all going on in this track and the performance.

This song has really grown on me! It’s still not my favorite of Lindsey Webster’s songs, but it’s a great song and she and the band are in perfect sync. The lyrics tell a great story and her talents are in full display!
