I love geese and would like my own, and there is loads of sweet little baby people too ha ha You can tell it’s a lovely pretty woman by her voice, abit like the Yorkshire shepherdess who loves nature and works hard
Great video. When Josh said that only one of them looked like a male, was that because of an observation that one gosling was significantly more yellow (lighter colored) than the rest? Months later, did that pan out to be true? Also, did Lucky hatch alone as one of the three eggs unaccounted for, that showed up later after the mom goose thought that she already had all of the ones that were hers? Curious... Thanks again.
The kind of geese we have are Pilgrim geese and they can be sexed at hatching by their color. That is one of the main reasons why we like that breed. Lucky hatched early and the mother wouldn't take her. It was strange.
Thank you for the insights. I will remember about the Pilgrim geese when I get to pick which kind for my homestead (I will have to move out of the city first). And thanks for the Lucky info.
Have you had any problems with aggressive Pilgrim geese? We are considering some geese for our place, but worried that they may be too aggressive to have around children.
Ours tend to only be aggressive during breeding season and when they have goslings. The rest of the year, they are mellow. Our older children help protect our younger children during those times and I (Carrie) take a stick with me if I need to go past them, just in case. We plan on having them enclosed into separate pond/pasture paddocks in the future to keep them out of our common walking paths.
we had 1 pair that was aggressive. They had been raised alone in a pasture, unsocialized. We got them when they were 1 year old. They hated other geese and ducks, and continually fought with the others. We sold them to a neighbor with chickens. No ducks, no geese, and in a large pasture. They are happy. Very territorial and totally ignore the chickens. As a breed, Pilgrims are generally quiet and docile. During breeding season, all bets are off. Any animal requires socializing. There will always be a few that want to be left alone, but that is an individual personality trait. Choose to keep and breed only those with good physical and personality traits. Then socialize them well.
Hi I have a pair of Pilgrims but I dont know if they are brother and sister and I am not sure if their parents were also brother and sister,, so I decided not to hatch any of the eggs.... but I am wondering if it really matters??
These are the geese we have, but they are currently sold out: www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/pilgrim_geese.html It's best to order goslings in the spring. But you may be able to get some older birds by checking Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

Are the gooses dangerous ⚠️? Are the parents overprotective?
They are not dangerous. They are quite protective though.
