Seeing my pie indirectly featured at 09:42 is pretty surreal! Damien, you’re absolutely right about popular pies being made by everyday people rather than professional investors, it’s something I try to make clear in both the description and comments of my pie. Like the others on the platform, I’m just a random person on the internet, and I always stress that anyone investing should take everything they read/hear with a big pinch of salt and do their own research. I often see folks putting a large percentage of their portfolio into these pies, and I try to steer them toward channels like yours to learn about the power of global index funds. While I think there’s room for a small, fun allocation to higher-risk investments like these pies or their own individual stock portfolio, the core of any portfolio should always be well-diversified and stable. Keep spreading the message Damien, great work!
I use this pie, I then added Netflix and will build a portfolio from it. It’s been great to start as small percentage with the vast majority on a global index fund. The only question I have (not advice 😅) is what made you balance the proportions as you did?

Great video, as always. A tutorial on how to find the account info for the purposes of setting up a standing order would benefit some. This is something I struggled with in the past. When I set up auto-invest to fund my pie, I used previously saved info on my bank from instant bank transfers. This of course is not the right way, and I was lucky my money wasn't lost. I found the only way I could find the correct details was to click bank transfer, fill in my banks account number and sort code and then click confirm. Once I had done this, the details required was revealed including the unique reference number in blue.
I agree, in terms of what they offer they're currently unbeatable. The only 2 things I'd really like them to add is to make dividend reporting easier and start offering a Stocks & Shares -Help to Elect- Lifetime ISA.
For a T212 GIA, their end of tax year reporting is really important. Pies and rebalancing can make loads of buys and sells which makes CGT a pain to work out. T212 seem to have a good end of year tax report for CGT, interest and dividends but how will they handle the CGT tax rate change of 30 Oct 2024? Will they show the two different gains/loss figures for pre-budget and post budget 2024? Are ii better at tax reporting?
Thank you for the great content from the very first day! You really inspiring me into getting starting a channel about money, investing etc.. I purely want to do this to share the message because I personally didn't get it on time..
Started in July. Had 20k in another ISA from previous year. Now up to 50k with that being about 10k profit. I initially just put in S&P funds but I have started to dabble in tech firms and that’s where most of the gains have been. Also doing a £5 per day challenge outside of the ISA as I have hit the limit. This is so satisfying to see the growth in.
Excellent! Mine is at around £15k and I started in Nov. Sadly my worth is down overall by £50!! Im hopefully in a year this will change and I'll be jn profit!
I put a lump sum in Nov and have added £500 in Dec and again Jan. I have SIPP and cash to save so £500 is all I can do per month. I have brought individual shares as my SIPP has retirement and index fund in it.
Hi Damien, I follow your informational channel regularly. You mention during this video, if 2-1-2 (which I use) doesn’t have your current ISA provider to transfer from, you would need to cash out from them and invest it back in to a 2-1-2 ISA. I stand to be corrected, but my understanding is, if you did this and say you had over £20k with another provider (not on 2-1-2 list) you wouldn’t be able to transfer more than £20k otherwise you would lose any ISA tax benefits on amounts transferred above that, consequently it’s only adviseable to transfer £20k from a non listed 2-1-2 ISA…hope my perception makes sense 🤔
Another informative video. Wish I'd had this 9 months ago! Just a comment for others to secure the 1% cashback offer (not sure if its still running) you need to set up a general investment account ,'ready to invest' then the cash back just appears . I hadn't realised this as I had set up everything in the two ISAs, doh! Great if you are transferring from another provider that just raised charges... Anyway great video, just a thought, Toby Newbatt seems to be on a similar track to you although he does some things differently (like his discord channel). Maybe a good option for a podcast interview? Compare notes, feedback etc.
Great stuff, again, Damo! Just a couple of things....the support is a bit hit and miss....some dont know that much, others are ok . Transfer in specie is not without problems. Although t212 do carry several Vanguard etfs , not all! If they dont have the one you're already in you'd have to sell, and transfer cash. Just a heads up to all ...check t212 do have your funds listed, before trying a in specie transfer. Cheers.
Hi Damien, just did your course on index fund investing and found it really useful and easy to follow and understand. Thanks alot for taking the time and effort to put this together, it's very much appreciated and a great resource for anyone interested in index funds like me. One quick question I had though, at 46 would I not be better overpaying into my workplace pension as opposed to say an S&P 500 index fund given the tax benefits etc. of making pension contributions? Thanks again.
This is far more like it... Subbed am gonna come back to this... I've literally saved up £3 this month 🤣 but no matter how little every month am gonna just keep scraping every little bit together and when Trading 212 gets the problem sorted if why my NI number won't accept I'm gonna invest it and leave it.
I am surprised to find out Trading212 is Bulgarian, as a Bulgarian I have learned to never trust a Bulgarian entity with your money. Being regulated in the UK kinda makes it safer but still doggy! PS. Thank you for the great tutorial! And Happy New Year!

Trading 212 is fantastic as it lets you do triple leverage SPX, the returns last year were amazing!!
That was so helpful, thank you 😊
You are welcome
They don't, but they should pay you!
Thanks Damo, I'm a regular user of 212 and I still learnt some tips.
Great to hear you found value in it! Thank you for giving it your time mate and HNY!
Great video, thanks Damien
Another informative video. Wish I'd had this 9 months ago! Just a comment for others to secure the 1% cashback offer (not sure if its still running) you need to set up a general investment account ,'ready to invest' then the cash back just appears . I hadn't realised this as I had set up everything in the two ISAs, doh! Great if you are transferring from another provider that just raised charges... Anyway great video, just a thought, Toby Newbatt seems to be on a similar track to you although he does some things differently (like his discord channel). Maybe a good option for a podcast interview? Compare notes, feedback etc.
This is so useful, thanks! I don't think anyone ever looks good on those photo ID checks. At least, that's what I tell myself.
Great vid Damo 👍
Trading 212 should pay you for that "Get Started" guide 👍
I wouldn’t take the money if they did. Much better to remain impartial
@DamienTalksMoney a very decent attitude to have.
And a reason that you have the respect of many people.
@@DamienTalksMoney What doesn't speak, doesn't lie 😉
This is far more like it... Subbed am gonna come back to this... I've literally saved up £3 this month 🤣 but no matter how little every month am gonna just keep scraping every little bit together and when Trading 212 gets the problem sorted if why my NI number won't accept I'm gonna invest it and leave it.
I am surprised to find out Trading212 is Bulgarian, as a Bulgarian I have learned to never trust a Bulgarian entity with your money. Being regulated in the UK kinda makes it safer but still doggy! PS. Thank you for the great tutorial! And Happy New Year!
Yep only thing that puts me off
Great video. Thank you!
