I have watched your other videos but I can say that this video is the best one yet…. As a mule owner myself I particularly enjoy you hunting off of mules since this is something that I’m planning on doing in the near future. If I can critique anything it would be not to play music except for the introduction it takes away the natural sounds of the wild. But I did enjoy the content and I’m planning on showing this to my buddies. 👍
Thanks for watching and thank you for the kind words! It was pretty awesome to get to have the mules in camp finally 😊 Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it as we’re trying to learn what folks enjoy and work that into the style that we’re trying to create. Thanks for taking time to leave such a helpful comment!
Thanks Bo! It was so fun to have the mules over there. Lol yeah, it was like a sauna there in the afternoons 😂 But that tent is incredible! If we had cots, we’d have a TON of space in there- even with the dogs. Episode 2 should be our best yet!
That was awesome. Been packing animals out on horseback my most my life. Very rewarding experience to see everything come together without any accidents.
Thanks so much for watching and leaving a nice comment! It really was rewarding 😊 We had been looking forward to that for years, and it was so awesome to watch Clyde just stand there while Alyssa loaded him up! Hopefully we’ll get to have that experience many more times down the road 🙏🏼
Awesome! I’m really glad you enjoyed it! We love our mules and could watch video of them all day, but we tried to keep it interesting for folks who aren’t horse people. 😊 Thanks for watching and taking time to leave a nice comment!
Thank you so much!! We’re so glad you enjoy them. Alyssa pours a TON of effort into editing our videos, and I agree… she DEFINITELY deserves a raise!! 😊
Hahaha it was too perfect! That wasn’t at all planned either! 😂 thanks for watching guys!! 🙌 The brumby came in clutch for strapping down the deer head!
I was always hoping you would combine a hunting trip with your mules. That a has to be one of my favorite videos you have done. I really enjoyed the rugged open country beautiful landscape (not as rugged as your motel stay 🙂) Apricate your horsemanship (not sure mulemanship is a word?) and the progress you have made with your mules.
Thanks so much for the kind words! We were so excited to finally get to take them hunting 😊 That country was super cool, but you’re right- the motel was much gnarlier 😂 Thanks again for watching and taking time to leave such a nice comment!
Great video guys! Congrats on the whitetail hes a beauty! Hunting with mules seems like it would be fun and another challege for hunting. Quick question.... did y'all worry about the mules spooking with the gunfire or were you far enough away from them it wasnt a big deal?
Thanks so much! Having the mules in hunting camp was a dream come true for us and it was super rewarding, but you’re right, it does add some logistical challenges. 😊 Super good question! We are definitely nervous about a gunshot spooking the mules… we’re doing our best to prepare them for when that day comes, but they were in camp when I shot my buck and also on the next episode when Alyssa gets her buck. We just went back and got them to help pack the meat 😊
Great video. Of course I watched part two before part one… 🤦♂️. Congratulations on your first white tail buck. I forgot to mention that I bought one of your T-shirts with the late season muley and I really like it! 🤠
Thank you so much! I actually got a new britchen and was excited to use it haha but we had forgotten our leather punch at home and it’s was too big and needed some holes punched. So I didn’t get to use it on this trip after all. Merry Christmas to you as well!! ☺️🎄
Cedar must have been going crazy when you left her back by herself. My horses go ape-shit if I leave them tied up behind in the backcountry to go look for elk. I can’t count how many elk got spooked because I separated the horses and they kept calling back and forth. So I have to go everywhere with the whole string 😂
This was a very cool video!! My question is, what sort of camera is used for videoing the hunts? Also, what lens do you use to see game at distance when not using the phone scope on the spotting scope? Thank you for your time and keep up the awesome videos!!
Thank you so much!! We have a Sony A7IV camera and use a couple different lenses on that. One is a 150-600mm and that can get some awesome shots of game further away. But we typically run a 24-70 or 24-200. We also use DJI Osmos on occasion. They are a great little action camera. Thank you for watching!!
I enjoyed the video a few questions though is this a popular hunting area it kind of seems like it also how many pounds of meat was that and how much can a mule carry since you had to walk it back to camp are the mules gun shy I'm not a hunter so did you wait an hour to make sure the deer was t wounded so you didn't have to track it I was so glad you brought the mules love that part I hope you have a merry Christmas and a joyous new year thanks kray
Hey Kray! Thanks for watching! Those are all good questions. The area we were hunting on this trip is pretty popular, but not terribly overcrowded once we got away from the trailhead a couple miles. Clyde was probably packing around 100 pounds of meat, I would guess. He could comfortably carry 180+ in that country because it was mostly on a flat trail. If we shot right next to the mules, it would probably spook them a little, but I doubt they would run off or do anything too crazy. 🤞🏼😊 And yes, we just sat and watched the area where the deer disappeared for quite a while. It turned out that he probably died within 5 seconds of the shot, but if we had gone into the trees and spooked him while he was wounded, it could have been tough to track him and recover the meat. We were SO HAPPY to finally get to take the mules hunting! It was a dream come true! 😊 Merry Christmas to you as well!!
These are compressed bales, so they weigh 50 lbs but are much much smaller. They are baked the same as regular hay in the field but then compressed and banded in a machine afterwards for ease of storing. It’s all weed free hay which is required when hunting in wilderness areas, state parks, blm, forest service, national parks etc. so they make it to where you can pack more bales in a smaller space ☺️👍🏼
Real Cowboy's drink black coffee, not starbucks, lol. I love the content. I've been thinking mules for the mountains, but my dad really likes mammouth jacks, do you have any opinion on that?
lol I know, I know- it just tastes so much better with cream and sugar! That’s a super good question! I think mules probably cover country a little quicker than mammoth jacks and I’d think they’re a little more powerful as well, but that’s just speaking in total generalities lol I’m sure a good mammoth jack could do anything our mules can 😊
Morning Terry! We don’t mind at all! 😊 It worked extremely well on the saddle we have (it has a 15 1/2 inch seat). The panniers were tight on there so there was no play or sloppiness. The main pros for us were simplicity, and it gave us the ability to ride out, pick up the meat, and then just lead Clyde back. It worked perfectly for us in this situation, but the cons would likely show up if you didn’t have a perfectly even load or if you were packing something bulky or awkward-shaped. We were also only packing about 90 pounds, so it may not work as well with a heavier load. We hope to find out next elk season 😁👍🏼

Great video!! That tent looks pretty sweet glad you had the wood stove for that frigid 70 degree weather! Can’t wait for episode two!

Enjoyed that ! I’m not a horse person but enjoy watching them

As always great video, Clyde is worth his weight in gold!!!! Love the videos, keep em coming.
Thank you Terry! Clyde is just the best! Were so thankful for him 😊
Nothing compares. Hooves clinking off rocks, animals working up a sweat, panniers loaded with meat.
It’s so true!! You gotta really soak in those moments because it’s pretty special! Just reading your comment got me fired up for next fall! 😁👊🏼
Nice job on getting the whitetail, Nice looking deer . Good job on video.. Hunting is always fun...
🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks John! We appreciate it! It is fun, even when you aren’t successful you get to see so many things while you’re out there! ☺️
Absolutely gorgeous video. Always a treat to watch your videos! Whoever edits your videos, give em a raise :)
Thank you so much!! We’re so glad you enjoy them. Alyssa pours a TON of effort into editing our videos, and I agree… she DEFINITELY deserves a raise!! 😊
Its so cute when they get their ears scratched.
Haha they love it!! 😍☺️
The song matching Jason’s WOOWOOHOOHOO 😮

@@MTN_BUILT That makes perfect sense. Id think over time they wouldn't be bothered by the noise
Great job!! Definitely the first whitetail I’ve seen packed out on a mule.
Watched a few of your other videos too. New subscriber 👊🏻
Awesome! Thank you so much! That was a fun trip and it was so rewarding to get to pack meat on Clyde for the first time 😊
Pretty antlers!
Thank you! We were so thankful to come home with two deer! It was a great trip 😊

Haha! Thank you! It was such a fun trip! And thanks so much for buying a shirt. I’m glad you like it 😊 Alyssa had a blast drawing those up!
@@MTN_BUILT Alyssa really is multi talented and you’re lucky to have a lady like her in your life! Please tell her she did a great job! 🤠
@@nmelkhunter1 I really am!! And I definitely will!! She’s right here and she says thank you 😊
awesome hunts
Thank you! It was so much fun to have the mules there with us! 😊
Another great video! Congrats on the whitetail! Curious why you don't use britchen on your mules? Merry Christmas 🤠

Great hunt. Just curious, Alyssa, Jason, what rifles and calibers do you hunt with?
Thank you! That was such a fun trip 😊 Alyssa uses a 7mm and I use a 300 Weatherby 😊
06:50 - I've never seen hay banded together like that. Is that done in the field like hay is traditionally baled or some other way?

How did that saddle pannier work out packing meat out? I've considered buying one. Please if you don't mind pro's & con's?

Love the music too. Tired of hip hop in hunting videos!!
Thank you! We’re definitely country people lol
