- For a vast swath of millennials, Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez’ supercharged duet at the ski lodge New Years Eve party is the most iconic karaoke performance ever. The palpable singing chemistry of co-stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens elevated HSM’s “The Start of Something New” from popular show tune to radio hit. Fast-forward to 2019. Disney’s slyly reimagined High School Musical: The Musical: The Series has the new students of East High paying tribute to the original class. Olivia Rodrigo (Nini) and Joshua Bassett (Ricky), who play exes trying to rekindle their relationship (via the power of theater and song, of course), lead a fantastic cast and new wave of Disney stars. Watch as Olivia and Josh channel some wildcat energy into a performance that’ll transport fans right back to the ski lodge.

Philip Seven not at all. There is a part when both are singing the bridge, after the second chorus and Olivia goes higher. Joshua matches her pitch beautifully. He is able to harmonize perfectly. Joshua and Olivia’s voice complement each other great. I am very impressed.

Disney did incredible casting. As someone who got the HSM 1, 2 & 3 as a DVD collection in 2008, the casting of HSMTMTS gives the same vibe of Nini and Ricky as Troy and Gabriella!
I totally agree. I've been a huge fan of all 3 HSM. I was hesitant at first about the series but I've been hooked since the first episode. I'm totally loving the series!!

The casting in this series is perfect
Every single time I can't stop smiling when they look at each other, it just makes me so happy, and they are wonderful singers, and I think they harmonize perfectly. I tried so hard not to ship these two and I promise it is so hard, but for now, I'm just going to go with them are awesome friends and they love each other as friends. I hope they always stay friends even when the series stops.

considering this is live, they did really great. olivia's voice is what made this so different than the original imo, bcs both hers and vanessa's voice is very unique in an opposite way.
josh's tone is similar to drew but josh sounds more youthful (?) i guess and more raw. he's already great tho and can only get better from here :)
