At the time of this recording, this man was no longer playing the guitar. "playing the guitar" does not describe this. This man speaks to us with this guitar. It is an extension of his thought, of his voice and his mind. Absolutely a wonderful performance.
As I listen to this magnificent performance, I, American born and raised, feel the blood in my veins rushing with delight reminding me of my family's roots from La Mancha, but most profoundly from Sevilla. Thank you blessed GOD!
no one plays the guitar with greater clarity and understanding, each note carefully shaped, carefully timed, and each note giving some expression, some color, some emotion, that contributes to the piece.
Not a musician myself. So thankful that I can actually see the performances. The actual playing looks so understated just because the movements/fingering, whatever it’s called looks small. Lol. We’e so lucky to have the technology to share these live performances!
Admirable. This guitar player has a beautiful tremolo...uniform and well balanced. Admirable.
Hes got a real solid right technique and that tremelo my God ive never seen someone that fast and steady. And that is a huuge guitar with a big bright sound, he sounds great!
K Boudreaux soz I don’t agree. Tremolo is muted!! Like the pad of next finger has landed before the nail of the previous had a chance to ring! Sounds like a playing card slapping against the spokes of a bicycle wheel!
I hate those people who unlike this video.do they know how hard it is to play a classical music on a guitar.that sucks...we should all appreciate it even if there'some one out there who's better than him...I just hope that those who unlike this video are those people better than him when it comes to his talent....I am a performer too..that is why I know....
Francisco Tarrega: Recuerdos de la Alhambra Isaac Albeniz: Asturias 5:21 Celedonio Romero: Suite Andaluza --Soleares 12:10 --Alegrias 15:33 --Tango 18:49 --Zapateado 21:41 --Fantasia 23:40
Paco de Lucia should be mentioned in the same breath as these other truly great guitarists.playing the acoustic guitar with a pick should be a punishable crime.
technical subtlety: some comments remark on the smoothness of pepe's tremolo. in the score, you'll see it notated p-a-m-i, but it is possible to mix the p-a-m-i pattern wholly or in part with the flamenco tremolo pattern, p-i-a-m-i. this will smooth out the "singing voice" or prolong the melody note at times when you want a rubato effect. since pepe obviously knows flamenco and has played this piece his entire life, it wouldn't surprise me if he isn't mixing it up a bit. to get a smooth tremolo, you might try playing p-a-m-i on string 2, then practice a-m-i-p, m-i-p-a, and i-p-a-m with a metronome until they are all equally smooth at 132 or better (this exercise is from manuel lopez ramos). there's also a video on youtube showing how pepe teaches tremolo.
Amazing , he is using both hands as four points on the Guitar...he instinctively knows where each note is , like he is playing the waveform and not...ya I'm high..dudes good.😸

John A the classical repertoire is not limited to a few scales/keys like most other genres. Classical musicians have to be able to work on every scale structure on every key.
John A absolutely - just type in classical guitar technique or something like that. The key with classical guitar is not just he scales or keys used - it is the fingerstyle technique used for melody, rhythm and bass simultaneously...this takes great skill.
Doug Keen Pepe is amazing, but there are Pepe equivalents in the piano, and that instrument has 3 times more octaves and an insanely large dynamic range ;)

Beautiful! Right up there with Segovia!

A dedicated musician lives a hard & lonesome life even if one is lucky enough , yet rarely, to be a bit of financially secured.
Brilliant proformence from the master. Pepe you're an inspiration for a student. thank you.
What beautiful music! Thank you maestro!!
Thank you. Beautiful music for this summer evening.
Pepe is the truth!!!
I've finally learned RDLA myself actually compliments of pumping nylon. That book helped my tremolo a great deat.
I want a concert in Bogota With Pepe Romero.
Sublimely beautifull
Thank You
The quality of the instrument has a great deal to do with it as well. The guitar is the interface between the performer and his audience.
thank you for the wonderful voicing and musicality. Most people have the high fast notes soooo loud and punchyyyyyyy
bella musica del maestro pepe romero

Amazing. Nice bit of tapping at the end!
+Celtic Saint This IS tapping. Invented by Celedonio R. in the end of the 40s. Pepe played this piece for the first time when he was ... seven!
Seven!!! Amazing.
Pepe Romero,Andres Segovia,Sabicas,Paco de Lucia ....que grandes guitarristas
Yes he is one of the great Guitarist of our time .There is a spiritual quality to his performance just lovely!
Paco de Lucia should be mentioned in the same breath as these other truly great guitarists.playing the acoustic guitar with a pick should be a punishable crime.
Nice playing and selection.
Brilliant performance from a man who makes guitars.
No, it's his SON, Pepe Romero, Jr., who is the master luthier (guitar maker)! Pepe, Sr. plays his son's guitars.
Bravo !

Pepe il tuo suono è splendido e l'esecuzione molto romantica ... come insegna l'inarrivabile Segovia. Hasta luego

¡Magistral!
A perfect example how the guitar is many instruments, almost all in one.
Suenan de maravilla las dos melodías simultáneamente

+ΒΑΪΟΣ ΡΕΤΑΛΗΣ Can you do better?
what kind of scales/keys do guitarists like these use? So beautiful.
John A the classical repertoire is not limited to a few scales/keys like most other genres. Classical musicians have to be able to work on every scale structure on every key.
Thank you for your answer! Is there anywhere on RUclips I can learn about that?
John A absolutely - just type in classical guitar technique or something like that. The key with classical guitar is not just he scales or keys used - it is the fingerstyle technique used for melody, rhythm and bass simultaneously...this takes great skill.

+Stuart Crosbie Recuerdos de la Alhambra (memories of Alhambra) by Francisco Tárrega.
☺
How much improvising do these guy's do within a song?
None
¿Esa guitarra será de arce o de ciprés?
What is the name of the piece he is playing at the beginning?
Is his guitar Cyprus or maple back and sides?
This is amazing. A piano doesn't sound this good.
Doug Keen Pepe is amazing, but there are Pepe equivalents in the piano, and that instrument has 3 times more octaves and an insanely large dynamic range ;)
Doug Keen certain songs are better on certain instruments...this is made for guitar
Joel Salazar Pianos have only 2 times bigger scale, not 3.
Doug Keen The guitar has more colors and nuances than the piano.
leszekjj1111 you are right
What's the tracklist? Cheers.
5:30 why p-i-i-i ?
+Yusuf Nişancı p i p i
im gonna throw up this was so good
His guitar looks like a flemenco guitar although it doesn't have a golpe plate.
