If your house already has them Hardwired, do you have to keep it that way? Or, can you replace with simple battery operated ones in the same living spaces?
You need to check your local regulations. If the smoke alarms were installed with A/C power, then it may have been a requirement at the time of installation and the smoke alarms may be interconnected.
