- The Bauer Lite is long over due, but that doesn't make it any less of a keyboard or product. I have to admit, I prefer that Omnitype took the time to get this right instead of releasing a GB and stalling orders while the design was tweaked. I want to note Omnitype is a sponsor of mine on the channel but it doesn't change what I think about this board nor does it affect my views. All my opinions are my own and truthful. Here is my full written review on the Bauer Lite sample unit I got a while back: www.alexotos.com/bauer-lite-r...
The Bauer lite takes all the design cues from the Bauer and adds some much needed quality of life changes in a very good price point of $119.99 USD. There has NOT been many changes since the sample I got in. The only real ones of note that are the new logo on the back of the board. Otherwise, it has been better produced (less injection molded bits) and the plastic is much clearer.
The board sounds and feels amazing. I've built three of these boards up and will admit, I do not think this board is meant for people who value the sound of tactile switches, but more so people who enjoy linears. It excels with linears and has been on my desk since I built this red copy.
To note, I do find the spacebar very bight sounding with long pole switches and strongly suggest a cherry switch for the spacebar as I found it gives the most well rounded sound profile.

The board releases at 1pm EST (12pm CT) on Omnitype's website. I also have updated my written review noting the more major changes since I last looked at the Bauer Lite when I had sample models in.
I hope you enjoy the video!
I just ordered the Grim to go with Dualshot 2 keycaps. I might consider doing ghost top and grim bottom later on. This seriously sounds so much better than I expected. I'm really excited.
The term you were looking for is "pogo pin connector". I just ordered this color for my board, really excited to build mine!
Youre a champ, the term was escaping me!
Was going to get the atomic but now I have to get red...awesome review thank you sir!
Awesome to see a keyboard designed in my hometown, I would've never thought I would see the day lol.
So glad to have picked up the 1st Edition. Been rocking a Keychron K6 for nearly 3 years now and I knew it was time to get a more serious board. Can’t wait for it to ship!
Despite being a full plastic build, my Bauer Lite sounds really poppy with lilacs (i.e. alpacas) and plate foam. Like the warmth in the sound vs how cold and lifeless some metal keyboards can sound.
So hype, just put in a pre-order. Reminded me of my clear gameboy advance, this was a must buy.
Love the colors. Was thinking I may need to pick up Atomic or Rouge next year, but wait, can I get a rouge bottom and atomic top?!?
Ended up getting an Atomic. Just looks like a fun board and different from the aluminum ones that are the bulk of my collection at this point!
Great video, can you advise details of the other keyboard on your desk (including keycaps) thanks
obviously this costs more (both money and time), but these days I’m all about mill max > kailh hotswap sockets, much more durable and generally there’s more layout support on solder PCBs. Not a good fit for folks that don’t want to solder, which is super valid, but dang I just much prefer working with mill max vs. traditional hotswap sockets.
Got a seaglass on order, I'm so pumped 🥴
Sounds great and looks good too. I'm not an rgb shinethrough or spill guy, but think not having RGB on a translucent board is a missed opportunity. You can make it look a different color any day.
If it's a standard pcb, possible to get an rgb pcb in?
I would have got one if it had under glow. Big miss imo.
I think it's not standard PCB, because it has 0.75u on both blockers.
This is an absolute steal, given the right switches, I am thinking to put some obscuras on this lol.
instantly copped one in the Atomic colorway & got a set of GMK DMG & Dracula. good black friday lol.
I waited for a long while for this keyboard. I ended up ordering a different color top to have a black and red 'edgy gamer look'. When I finally got it, I dedicated a full day to put it together including lubing switches.
I did run into some QC issues, the top frame had a lip that would not allow me to close the case. I had to grab a file and shave it down, it took 30 minutes and I left a mess.
Another thing I noticed later when I switch the top case, that I never got all the gaskets, I was missing 3.
To make the experience worse, I had gotten my Mode Sonnet early that month and one of the plate screws was not threaded.
It made me really sad because one keyboard was a board I waited years but didn't hit my wallet too hard, and the other took months to get and it hit my wallet pretty hard.
I wonder if it's just a freak thing that I experienced. With having two keebs come in with bad build experiences so close together. But I am praying that the issue doesn't continue in the future.
Gosh that sounds great.
Ion get people complaining about this being a plastic board. It sounds great and has great aesthetics.
It's just not the best value now with boards like cycle7 and the qk boards being around the same price for cnc metal case and better specs overall
@@cameraman9016 This value thing people complain about makes no sense, why if you don't like the way the Cycle7 or QK boards look? What if you want a plastic board since it's lightweight? The Bauer Lite is still an attractive price point and is easy to assemble. Not everything needs to be purchased just because it makes the most sense for bang for your buck.
It’s crazy to me people still talk about specs on keyboards. At the beginning of the hobby when hollow sound plagued every keyboard there was justification for needing heavier metals (and hence better machining to avoid blemishes).
But nowadays all keyboards sound great and there is no option for a high quality injection molded case. They provide a unique sound and I’m going to pick one up even though I own many “end game” boards. Plastic is so much fun and I can just toss it in a bag without worrying about weight or dents.
what a beautiful keyboard.
if only shipping was not USD46 to my country cos I am seriously diggin the red one ...
Good lord, I swapped in Cheese switches in my Lite and this board is otherworldly now.
My dream keyboard building experience: each individual switch snaps into place magentically with its ball contacts (so no more bent pins), stabilizers go in, pre-cut PCB foam can then be put on, then the plate goes over the switches and is fastened to the assembly using snap-in or screws to keep all the switches in place. Drop the whole assembly in and it connects magnetically. Keyboard chassis also assembles screwless. But I guess we're stuck with MX style switch pins for the foreseeable future...
ketchup coloured keyboard is epik though ngl
How do you always find the perfect keycaps for all your boards. Great build
He has god knows how many sets.
Bro can just spawn set after set
I could be totally wrong, but I’d guess he gets a lot of sets either for free or on the cheap from working for NovelKeys (or maybe homie just spends a lot on caps, no judgement from me if that’s what he does).
He has a fuckton of keycap sets to scour to. I bet if everyone also had a fuckton of keycap sets laying around, they could be able to match a good one or two with any board.
@@ImOnMy116 its a mix of products i've been sent, but lately ive been on a keycap purchasing binge more so than keyboards LOL i just find them more fun.
Never in my life have I messed up a hotswap socket in or out of the board over like 20-30+ keyboards.
I've seen some noobs did in the community
I learned the socket issue the hard way
Anyone else's PCB come slightly bent? Not sure if I should go back to Omnitype and say something, but there was a noticeable curve in the PCB I got which made it tricky to build.
WILBA PCB's are always like this, you can apply some slight pressure to bend them back!
@@alexotos I'll try that, but yikes, pending a PCB back into place seems like a recipe for disaster.
got seafoam with extra ghost top 🔥
hey what stab do you use in your board ?
sold outttt
fresh!
For a moment i thought this was just a press fit 😮💨
Hi everyone, would anyone know if the case will have cracks eventually due to tightening of screws? I have a kbd67 lite and it has crack marks in the holes/wells where the screws go into. It does not look good especially if the case is transparent.
It will not. It has stainless steel threaded inserts, so the screws are not going into the plastic itself. :)
The 67 Lite does not need to be tightened that much... I rebuilt mine many times with no issues with cracking.
@@omnitype_officialto be fair the 67 Lite also had metal screw inserts and the one 67 Lite I had did crack, but they do look notably thicker in the Bauer Lite over the 67 Lite tho...
I feel its too late, also looks cheap to me maybe in hand it might feel more premium. people will still jump on the bandwagon for this board
Why do you feel it's too late?
The board feels good in hand, its a lot lighter than anything aluminum, but definitely doesn't feel bad or cheap by any means.
@@alexotos just my opinion looking at the board on images and videos it looks cheap to me. That might change if I held one and used it. I believe it was first was announced about three years ago when plastic boards where very popular i.e ikkia aurora and kbd lite 67 . Understand they had issues and they didn't want to release until they got it right and I will give them credit for that. This is not a board I would buy maybe if it half the price I would jump on it.
@@ChiefBrianIrons Totally valid! I was. just curious as to what made you think that way, I appreciate the answer. Although, I think the aesthetic of plastic boards especially the translucent ones are always really cool, reminds me of the whole transparent phase we had with electronics growing up! I don't think the board is for everyone, but it's definitely the most solid injection moulded board i have tried to date
@@alexotos I agree that the Bauer Lite has a place in the current market due to aesthetic preferences. However, how do you think the Bauer Lite stacks up to a alu board in a similar price range like the Neo65 in terms of sound and feel?
@@taizhujin9250I have a Neo65 that I really like but this kit just looks cool and will be fun to customize. I have always wanted keyboards with this aesthetic and they are finally here for me.
copped an atomic one immediately to go with my laser r2 set that has been sitting around forever
i remember you making a vid on this 7 months ago 😂
i was not interested in this board till i watched this video. now im thinkin well mayyybeeee i could lol
what thickness is the pcb?
1.6mm !
what mouse is that?
Not a fan of the loude clack, prefer deeper thockier sounds myself.
God damnit, why do I need another keyboard!
The alphas are succulent, the spacebar sounds bad, on a whole, can’t really like a plastic keeb anymore, all for alu from now on
It has no right sounding this amazing at $120
Stock plate anyone?
It's a nice keyboard, but it's value proposition is very poor. When you can get a tkd Cycle7 for 130 USD or Neo70 for 140 USD, both of which sound fantastic and have innovative build features as magnetic connections.
The Bauer lite would be good 2 years ago, they are just too late. Anyway a lot of people will still buy it
I respectfully disagree with the why part. Visuals and layout also come into play when deciding on a keyboard, also maybe weight can also come into play as I know a lot of people bring boards back and forth to an office.
While I agree that if you're strictly look at what comes in the box and some features the bauer is pretty basic in that sense, but I don't think it's the only thing to look at when deciding on a board.
@@alexotosit is a basic 65% with even bezel which is so 2020 and looks outdated
Bad take. I just ordered one and have so many fun customizations planned for it. I have Neo65 and Mode Envoy as well, but this kit easily going to be my favorite. This is the kind of board I have been waiting for. Just ordered my Atomic purple kit and an extra Sea Foam bottom case for a very specific look I have been wanting to craft. I am even tempted to buy more color options.
Bezel isn't even actually@@involuntarysoul3867
@@alexotosthere is also clicky keyboards, just tried it with Clickiez and yeah they sound fucking amazing, like a mix of the bauer sound with the vintage alps click sound. More hollow but still rigid plastic keyboards with traditional PCBs sound better for clicky switches than a dense (or even some hollowish ones) alu keyboard, plastic means deeper sound and thus makes the clicks sound more like clacks rather than the high pitched click sound that people hate about clicky switches, while hollow air allows the audio to resonate.
really hard to justify 120 for an injection molded keeb from 3 years ago when cheaper and better options exists
Dixie/Omni is a little too late with this and at $120 this is basically overpriced. Plastic cases probably cost pennies to manufacture (material cost). IMO, Omitype should have brought back the aluminum Bauer, but manufactured in China to bring cost down. If you buy the Bauer Lite, then you are a sucker being robbed at point blank. Many actual CNC aluminum keyboards at similar or cheaper price that sound 1000x better.
I am not robbed at plank for one reason why: clicky switches.
they are delusional thinking ppl will pay $120 for this cheap plastic case
You are delusional thinking people won't buy this for 120
It’s a cool board that looks very polished and has a great unboxing and build experience. l just bought an Atomic purple one and also got an extra Sea Foam bottom case to create my Evangelion Unit 01 themed look. I can also keep it all purple and make a retro Game Boy look as well. This is a hella fun kit. Not everyone is a spec/feature nerd. You sound like someone who has very boring and bland setups.
@@tunafishriotcopium
@@fnvfanMSPRfor $60 more I brought Kalam Unikorn with copper weight, hard case, and underglow PCB for the PC version, BL is pretty poor value at $120
Completely know what you mean. I think the only reason why you could argue the price for this is the fact that they need to cover the cost of the mold. And I think it would realistically be around $25,000 - $65,000 for just the mold. And, it isn’t going to be sold on something like Aliexpress so that is where I would say the cost lies. Of course once they hit enough sales, it will be pure profit lol.
plastic. you guys need to change jobs. Dollar Store is always hiring.
pretty sick overall imo, only gripe I can think of is the placement of the spacebar gasket. not a fan of having it so close to the switch/gaskets not being on the outsides of stab location. video production still higher than a eagle pussy 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
