@@PhillyCYOSports bro 🤣
That’s annoying when that happens
He doesn't do a lot of horizontal spins or methods. I noticed.
It's a whole new level of Time Extension spam (?)
It's a shame there's no collection of these mid-late 90s sega arcade games available, didn't even know about most of them.
Many of them have a too basic gameplay that rely on the experience, for example thisarcade had a real skateboard where that you used to go left/right and jump, there was nothing else to it. That with a gamepad would be to simple.
Yup. Without the skateboard this game would’ve been terrible. It was great though!
@@_JUG_ just so you know Sega his first then Tony hawk
@@joeburrows9470 It's not that bad man I used to play it on the computer with a ps style controller. Not as good as with the skateboard obviously but still.
Joystick controlled
How am I 36 years old and just seeing the Easter eggs and secrets now? A+
Don't jump the first ramp in expert, then jump into the broken railing gap on the left at the tunnel to enter the secret event.
God the intro is so Crazy Taxi esque and I shouldn't expect less from Sega
Same director on both games
When I was 19 I went to E3 for the first time, the year before I signed on as a full-time professional journalist. So I spent a whole day of the show at the Sega booth playing Top Skater (when I wasn't playing Crazy Taxi or Dreamcast Soul Calibur). That was a good day.
top skater announce cocola ppopo coco fizz thanks great words appear
Before there was Tony Hawk.. there was Top Skater
And STREET SK8ER!
Neversoft basically based Tony Hawk off of this game.
Grind Session, Trasher: Skate and Destroy , MTV Skateboarding featuring Andy McDonald, etc. were all released around the same time or even before THPS 1.
Super Skateboardin' for the Atari 7800 seems to be the first in line , at least to me... there could be other arcade or home versions of old school skateboarding video game titles. 🤷🏼♂️😸 By the way, I didn't mean to offend you; I was just stating factual information.
There’s Atari’s 720 Degrees, released back in 1987, and was one of the first skateboarding games, if not *the* first skateboarding game.
This was such a fun game, Sega AM2, was so far ahead of the time with using licensed music in their arcade games, let alone in this one, real world products, and companies, I miss them, and their style... beating rockstar to the punch by years, too bad that Tony Hawk Ride wasn't more popular, we could have seen Top Skater 2 using the Ride controller would have been cool, but that's just me
Sega AM3
But AM2 is such a great studio, the same goes for AM3, but AM3 is dead

I would totally write to Sega for a Top Skater sequal. If they did make one, they should have or skate courses and, well keep the 5 original characters, but maybe add more.
He never knew such a trick was possible
I loved this game, but only when the arcade had the board properly calibrated. Getting the "S" tricks was so satisfying. Top Skater and Prop Cycle by Namco both wowed me as much as Mario 64 with how convincing the 3D world was. I still wish Sega would try porting this and Air Trix to the Will (U) balance board.
i won the top skater comp wellington
Oh hey how’s it going
Dude that secret area. They really figured out Tony Hawk in a way before Tony Hawk! No wonder it was used as inspiration!
Pennywise!!! Best sountrack game ever.
Pennywise always concert at vans warped tour
I know right
@@haydeeveloz barely if you wanna get sponsored
@@teodorusdikypermadi What did you say
@@haydeeveloz sponsored skateboard man
I miss playing this in the arcade, it had an actual skate you did the tricks on.
Ah, the power of Pennywise. Been listening to them since '91. I'm 42 and I still blast PW when I'm at the dirt bike track BRAAAAAAAAP 🤘
This is the game that got me into Pennywise!
But now since warped tour is ended pennywise always stoked
Street sk8er got me into less than jake!
And thus began the era of great soundtracks for video games.
OMG I forgot how annoying the announcer was in this game! Prob didn't notice back then tho cause I was too busy jumping on the board
THE GREATEST! Absolutely
I feel like there was a massive missed opportunity with not putting Picky from Fighting Vipers in here. Also, I wonder why they didnt use Model 3 for this game. It was already out at this point when the game was released.
+Saturnology I was wondering the same thing. Perhaps the game had been in development well before Model 3 made its debut - but this is pure speculation on my part.
+Saturnology Would've been cool, but back in the day, characters from one division of Sega rarely appeared in another division's games. For example, every crossover character you've ever seen in AM2 games have been AM2 characters. The only notable exceptions I can think of are Sonic characters appearing in games like Rad Mobile and Daytona. And eventually, many of those characters sorta became AM2 characters anyway when Sonic the Fighters was made. Picky would've been an AM2 character in an AM3 game if this had happened.
That explains the lack of Last Bronx characters in Fighters Megamix.

I used to work for Sega back then so I got to play these titles for free like they was my home console.
Tony Hawk Skating must have been inspired by this as Sega was always well ahead of other gaming companies and still make some of the best and most innovative games to date. Still waiting to see something as amazing as the R360 with a game as intense as Afterburner when I go retro gaming events.
Bring back Sega arcades we knew what we was doing.
There was one of these in our local Peter Piper Pizza. My friend David and I would go back and forth topping each other's high score. Better times. Miss you David. I hope you found the world you were looking for...
What a trick! Never knew such a trick was possible!
Most people who know their Tony Hawk recognise this game as a precusor, but the idea of using licensed punk songs would also make its way to Crazy Taxi. Although you could probably argue that the practice was around since at least Moonwalker.
I remember getting Airwalk shoes after getting addicted to this game. Didn't ride any skateboards out on the streets though.
But now check out éS comeback epic ! New riders and new models shoes
I Remember seeing this ARCADE GAME while in GATLINBURG, TN with my Family. I saw it for MY FIRST TIME in THE SPACE NEEDLE ARCADE AREA..
This takes me back to being a 12 year old skateboarder in the 90s, pre-tony hawk games, and being mad at this machine for not letting me grind on every ledge in the game or make it to do kickflips by properly using the footwork on the board. I was so mad. LOL. I was very naive to video games in general.
I remember this machine being in Sega World! Was bloody awesome, and WAY ahead of the pack. Thanks for sharing! :D
top score wja
warrenjamesanderson
the fucking arcades near me won't take care of their machines, i'm tired of shifting broken manual transmissions, pushing the planet's wheight into the skateboard thing, straining my eyes on burned out crts...
yeah, nostalgia won't help me much.
This is a very fun game, but I really didn't enjoy playing on some Top Skater machines where the skateboard would barely turn (making ramp tricks harder).
I even remember getting an S-rank on this at the GattiTown arcade in Greenville at one point, but didn't get a high score. Good times :)
this game needs a comeback it still plays pretty well!
WHAT A TRICK, NEVER KNEW SUCH A TRICK WAS POSSIBLE
WHAT A TRICK! NEVER KNEW SUCH A TRICK WAS POSSIBLE!
When it's what you do with it came on, my skills went up 10x! Loved this game!
This game wasn't just inspiration for Tony Hawk. Neversoft literally based everything off of this game and used it as a model during their development process.
This was Street Sk8er before Street Sk8er was even made!
Yeah that's what I used to think and then I played Street Sk8r when it first came out and it was crap. So glad I waited for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. :)

Like that video! Absolutely wild! Can't wait to see a next one!
holy shit i used to play this when i ditched school from redondo high...on the pier. RIP Fun Factory
back in the days, in the arcade all day! miss that time
Damn, that gameplay looks smooth! That STYLE! Goddamn I love it!
Happy Go Skateboarding Day 🛹 from Sega's Top Skater 🛹🎮- Arcade
best game soundtrack ever
I spent so much money playing this game in the arcade 😂
This reminds me of crazy taxi!
This game had 2 badass skate courses. They should turn this game into a contest for the X Games
The inspiration for Tony Hawks Pro Skater
Oh wow I've never seen the Boogie Boarder, I used to use the Surfer in the arcade. On the character select, left left left, right right right, then keep hitting left
I just now heard of this title, needless to say, I'm impressed.
I love how when you trick off the Coca Cola banners a cap pop sound is heard.
When I was a kid the local arcade had this game and I would spend literally all of my tokens on this (and maybe a few on Soul Calibur II/Tekken 4)
Excellent taste
This is what they modeled 'Street Sk8er' for PS1 off of.
On-Rails, pre determined animations for certain buttons.
This song brings back memories of this game
doing all that with a backpack on a bet his spine was begging for mercy.
Este juego llego a mi ciudad y recuerdo haberlo jugado mucho en las maquinas de juegos de el patio de comidas. Comodoro Rivadavia - Chubut - Argentina
I Would've Got This On Dreamcast😎
(Along Wit Those Other Arcade🕹️Games)
From the IE I remember playing this at the arcade in Moreno Valley. Castle park didn’t have it for some reason
back when we all wanted to be a skater but kids like me just sucked at it, this was a godsent
Here's a fun fact about this game, the Mall and Downhill Jam Levels from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 were inspired by Top Skater's circuit levels.
Sega Employee1: Alright we need a secret character for this game...
Sega Employee2: Someone like Picky from Fighting Vipers!?
Sega Employee1: ... Nah, What about...
This game is like a common ancestor of Crazy Taxi and Ollie King
I LOVED this friggin game. Pennywise.....skateboarding.....win.
I used to play this and put in the secret button presses to unlock the secret surfer character. 🤘
Sega is so fucking god tier
This game needs to be ported to the Dreamcast. So many arcade games and old PC and obscure console games are getting ported to the Dreamcast with a professional release, this game would be perfect for it.
I never knew such a trick was possible.
Damn, I shredded hard in this game!
Thats how I became a huge fan of Pennywise
This game's so wild.
the golden age!
i remember this skate arcade game
Wish this made it to Saturn. Would've been Segas answer to Street Sk8er on PS1...
best skategame ost ever. pennywise are great!
If i remember right, i heard rumours back then that you can unlock Lion from VF2.
Is that true?
+iPLAY SEGA!! Doesn't seem to be, though there are a lot more secrets in this game than what I showed off here. The surfer is the other hidden characters, the styles of the characters can be changed, and there are big head and super deformed modes.
I can see why Neversoft was enamored with this
Brings back memories...no one ever does Ken-ta's superman trick. I think my highest score was 350k
I'm sure most people using the Model 2 emulator would prefer to use an Xbox controller, but I am curious about one thing. If someone wanted an experience closer to the arcade version, how much do you think the Wii Balance Board would work?
Shame they never tried to port this, I doubt Saturn could have handled this but the dreamcast should have had no problem at all
Solid soundtrack
Shots fired where
I remember playing this in the arcade and just absolutely sucking at it. Oh, and 15:45 - that can't feel too good on the knees.
this is basically Street Sk8er Arcade
If the scrapped the backflips and put a few more flip tricks in this would be an unbeatable skate game
You can do other moves, but the game doesn't judge your for diversity of moves and the backflip is the easiest one to pull off with a controller.
The game style and characters look SO similar to Crazy Taxi
probably because it was also developed by SEGA’s AM2 division
I’ve gotten nearly 2 million on the secret track. Imma have to see if I can record a run of that someday
How much was the DLC for the girl on the body board? 😁 Miss unlockables in games.....
+joltzy There's also a surfer, but the bodyboarder is more funny. :D
+Saturn Memories For some reason, P.Nut reminded me of sexy doll from Dreamcast's Illbleed. Probably due to them both being (intentionally) ridiculous-looking characters with rigid models.
KEWL!!!
I'm 36 and spent so much on this game
Do you have the cab or is this emulated?
+joltzy Emulation. I don't have the space for arcade cabs. This would be a cool one to own though!
Shopping Tijuca bons tempos
I just noticed that not once does a character put their foot on the floor to gain momentum.
PUMP THIS IN MY VEINS!
God I was so bad at this game but I could at least get to the secret level
This one goes to the inspiration of Tony Hawk series.
I wonder why sega doesnt modernize this
For home consoles and what not
I used to love this at the arcades !!
Well look at all the product placements, and the licensed music used which most of the game's budget went to
I liked Thrasher Skate and Destroy.
The cop chases 😂 good game.
I just realized, you're collecting rings.
Sonic the sk8er boi
I used to do over 1000000 in the arcade
There was one other secret skater. A guy that rode a surfboard
Was this close to a Saturn release?
+WonderboyF1 Probably not. I imagine Sega probably figured the game was built around the skateboard cab, and it would just lose too much making the transition to home console.
i looked into this and the game's producer very much planned for it to come to the saturn saying since it was built on the AM2 engine it wouldnt need a lot to be ported, planning new levels and secrets.
i can only imagine that by the time it wouldve been eligible to be ported the saturn was dying in america, which i figure would be Sega's main market for the game.
@@TVindustries5000probably might have had a Japanese release.... But the Japs would probably take one look at it and go "what the fuck?"
Let’s see it again backed up to penny wise’s Society
is there a way to play this on raspberry pi 3?
I'm looking for the rom to get this running on mame arcade.
Are you playing this with an emulator?
