Parents at the time objected to the darker elements of Batman Returns and they actually ruined it for their kids. Parents also ruined the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action films with similar complaints.
Keaton was great, but Burton needs some credit too. On-screen Batman had been destroyed by the 60s TV series. Even though Forever and Batman and Robin happened afterwards, Burton proved that Batman could come back without being cheesy, and then Nolan had a crack at it too.
Michael Keaton proved with The Flash that he could believably play the role of Batman again. I could see the studio bringing him back to complete a proper trilogy of Burton films. Especially if the Beetlejuice sequel is a huge hit.
Batman Returns is my favorite batman movie ever because When Michael Keaton was with Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman and Danny Devito as the Penguin it gave me goosebumps
Michael Keaton is the reason why I am a hardcore fan of Batman, as a kid I grew up on Batman Tas, which was created under the influence of Burton's Batman from 89, the whole darker Batman vibe that we have today can be thanked to Keaton and Burton, for me personally in Batman Returns it was best shown on the screen, it's the Batman I imagine flying around Gotham, a dark detective,a truly Caped Crusader.
0:37. Micheal Keaton is and ALWAYS will be. MY Batman!! Went to see him on my 11th birthday at the cinema.... Ur was the greatest day of my life. I'm 49 now. Lol
I was a fan of Batman as a kid. Prior to _Batman (1989)_ there was the campy AF 1966 Batman that ran as reruns on TV, and the DC comic books... And when I heard the complaints about _Batman Returns (1992)_ after the movie released, "Why is it _so dark?!"_ my first thought was _"Do you 'narbs even _*_read_*_ the source material, or did you believe the 1966 Batman to be the _*_definitive_*_ Batman?!"_ Tim Burton was intimately acquainted with the source material, and developed everything that went onto the screen _around that._ Schumacher -IMHO- _wasn't_ and more or less piggybacked off of the narrative established by the previous films, as he decided to make it more brightly colored, family friendly, and light-hearted. Batman became a passion project for Tim Burton. For Joel Schumacher, it was just a paycheck. With Warner Bros. making him director, they allowed him to pigeonhole Tim Burton's passion into his own 1966 Batman tinted vision. His role as director also allowed him to low-key sexualize Batman and Robin in _Batman Forever (1995)_ and later in _Batman & Robin (1997)_ with Bat-nipples, cod-pieces, and gratuitous lingering ass-shots. And of course, when Batgirl made her appearance in _Batman & Robin (1997)_ - to avoid anyone _figuring it out_ - similar scenes for Batgirl were filmed. With respect to the source material, characters and the lore - I believe Tim Burton paid them more respect than Schumacher did.
Sure, but everyone loved Keaton in the role again. He was the one highlight of the film. Keaton is a box office draw, and a 3rd film by Tim Burton would make big money.
The only reason to even watch that flash movie was to see Michael Keaton back in the costume one more time! And if we could get one more movie out of Michael Keaton as Batman to introduce a new Batman that would be the way to give him the greatest send-off he could get!
I wish Tim Burton had at least gotten the chance to make a trilogy. It wasn't his fault that the braindead WB execs only had money on their minds to not care at all about what was actually being produced in the sequel. Michael Keaton was an absolute beast in the flash movie. It was bittersweet to experience his scenes. He will always be appreciated 🥲
Like make a batman 3 where batman starts to realise he is old and vulnerable now and end it with Keaton keeping a close eye on Terry and have a batman beyond after that…That’d be awesome
Didn't watch the Flash, but did see the compilation of Keatons scenes. The music, the costume, the acrobatics we never saw Keaton do because CGI wasn't there yet. Make "Batman 3" with Burton (on his stong wave after Beetlejuice & Wednesday) and it may be the bigger than Spiderman ever was
Keaton will always be remembered as Batman. I keep praying that DC threw one brothers will let him do it one more time. I probably doubt it but oh well and too bad. Bat girl was cancelled because Micchael would’ve been in that but oh well at least three times a long time at least he will always be remembered for Batman, but I would love to see him Batman one more time. Let’s see what the future brings but in the meantime, I’m looking forward to Beetlejuice.
Although I consider Ben Affleck’s version of Batman to be more comic accurate, Keaton’s Batman is by far the most cinematic. He’s the OG Bruce Wayne/bat. Enigmatic, unhinged, lethal, vigilant, deceptive, imposing, calculating and deft. His return in the flash was in vain, I’m not over the moon with the writing of Batman in that movie. Having said this, Keaton carried it in his back. After 35 years Keaton is still the coolest Batman.
I always head cannoned that Batman Forever took place on Earth 95 and Batman/Returns was on Earth 89. So when Barry goes back at the end of The Flash it was to Earth 95.
I think Di Caprio would've been a better Robin. He's dog the acting chops to play a Burton directed Greyson and he would have been the right age for the character.
I remember being disappointed with Batman Forever because it didn't have Michael Keaton & it will wasn't directed by Tim Burton, it sucked. Batman Returns was my favorite & I'd watch it everyday
Nowadays, I wish we would’ve seen Tim Burton but oh well but at least for my childhood I got along great with Batman forever, but it would’ve been great for Tim to make it third one but oh well what can you do?
I've always preferred michael Keaton over Christian bale batman. He's ruthless he doesn't let his enemies st@y @live for long. He reminds me of the Pre-crisis Earth-Two Golden age batman who was ruthless and Earth-51 batman . Christian bale batman was too soft and always wanted to save his enemies. Keaton batman didn't. Besides Keaton batman had a better suit than Christian bale batman
Not sure about the suits but for sure Keaton’s Batman never had to scream “Where is she!?” Just saying. He was the true dark knight. Cold, Unstirred and calculated.
@@DrReelTV the suit was great to me and others. I always like the way it looked original but look like his bronze age batman suit that neal adams redesign and I like the yellow ellipse behind the bat. And there's looks like there's enough evidence here to Insinuate that this set in Tim Burton version. You can look all this up on youtube.
I remember eagerly waiting for the movie coming out and was disappointed finding out Tim Burton’s casting choices for the character Bill Murray was his first choice, when the film came out leaving the theater I hated the movie now that I think of it I felt even more disappointed from when seeing Green Lantern, thank you Kevin Conroy, Bruce Timm, Christopher Noland, Christian Bale, Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck. For your contributions for the character.
DC and Warner bros kept trying to compete with the MCU and failed. They could've gotten back on the map with one movie to propel them. Batman Beyond. They already had the older Batman in Keaton. All they needed to do was cast Terry McGinnis. This new movie would have new villians and they wouldn't have to use any of the old villians. Wasted opportunity
For the studio to ' fire ' Tim Burton cause his direction is.... Dark? I don't get it. He's directing Batman. Not Superman, not Wonder Woman, Batman. Warner Bros made a huge mistake and Keaton made the right decision of not doing the third sequel without Burton. Other directors before him tried it out especially the Synder version which is somewhat ok. I wish if they brought him back and apologize on what they did is wrong
Keaton is a legand , absolutely the batman of my childhood, but i have to be honest , no one could have pulled off what bake did. Keaton was a kids batman, bale was an adults batman, and Ben was the batman we needed but never got done right, a broken batman riding the edges of vengeance and justice as the dark knight.
No. The Burton films were very superficial and had next to zero comic book accuracy. I enjoyed Batman Forever. At least Joel Schumacher showed that he had interest in Batman in that movie in the way it handled the psychological aspects of Bruce Wayne and its explanation of Batman's motivations. It was the first step to much better Batman story telling. It was always obvious that Burton was more interested in his own freaks and monsters than he ever was Batman and it reflected in Keaton's performance. The Flash got the most out of him because that movie cared about retaining comic book aspects while borrowing some things from the most recent Batman films. Also. Val Kilmer was an extremely underrated Batman and he deserves his flowers.
Tim Burton and Michael Keaton version was epic not all this garbage that came after and now they got Adam savages brother to bring stuff almost as good or will it be better. What would be epic is taking that robot episode from the animated series and setting in the Burton/ Keaton style.
Ben Affleck & Robert Patterson will never compare nor measure up to Michael Keaton as Batman. There in the same league as Val Kilmer as far as their portrayal of Batman goes.
While I don't enjoy Ben's Batman much that's just insulting to Pattinson's portrayal, he's by far the best Batman In live action and I can't wait to see more of him. But I do agree Keaton is great, and won't ever deny that as I just got done rewatching his movies again.
Christian Bale was the only one who was able to surpass Keaton’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Patterson doesn’t even come close. @@absoluteedgelord9981
THE FLASH WASNT a hit it flopped badly. Also in film, it can be about time & place, it could just as easily have been a different actor but the same Director, this was a first, for this type of...gothic Bat man, they were in unexplored teritory at the time. (just as they were with the more real World, BAT MAN BEGINS again BUT Michael Keaton is a very good actor & quite diverse as his career has demonstrated over the years
Keaton can have Nightwing do the more strenuous stunts. It would make sense because Nightwing would be grown-up and doing his iwn thing. He would only come back to help Batman.
The flash movie was a failure because of Ezra. There was no way people were going to forget and forgive Ezra for his horrible crimes. I'm sure wb was hoping Michael Keaton returning as batman was enough. But there was no way people were going to see and support this movie because of Ezra.
Comics still pave the way for honest scripts as much as they can. Even though the movie translations are not precise always, they still anchor the script somewhat
Batman Forever is a perfectly fine film in terms of visual style and characterisation. Promote your own preferences all you wish, but please try to make some attempt at doing that without making cheap and irrelevant comparisons with other movies. Every actor who has played the role of Batman has brought their own unique approach to the character and have brought out aspects of him that the others have not. Apart from that, there is no reason why Keaton shouldn't reprise the role again if he feels so inspired to do so.
Actually Val Kilmer as Batman was not bad at all. The question is how was Batman Forever compared to the other two Batman films prior to that? How is that a cheap or irrelevant comparison? Same character, same saga, different movies played by different actors. Naturally one would compare.
The Flash was a success ? Maaaaan in what Alternate Universe are you from that movie was a massively big failure only thing worth seeing it was Michael Keatons performance i mean Seriously 🦇
The only reason I watched that movie was to see Keaton as Batman again. The only reason why that movie made a little bit of money was because of Keaton.
He was brought back 'cos it's too late to bring back Adam West, obviously. I'm still disappointed that when Keaton's Batman said, "You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts" that he wasn't talking about snacks. Also, I'm still deeply disappointed by the Flash movie. Seeing this movie made me wish they'd had Grant Gustin in the role. Ezra Miller hasn't got the faintest idea of what running looks like - except when he's running from the law
I was with it until they said Marlon Wayans as Robin. Nope. That would’ve been a major backlash from the fans and probably would’ve been just as demonized as George Clooney’s batsuit nipples.
I liked "Batman Forever" & how the main character > Batman, wasn't taken by the Villains. I really like the 1st 2 batman movies. Jack Nicholson's Joker was the main character to me in the 1st. My favorite villain from the 1st 4 movies was Danny Devito's "Penguin". Even though they had Tommy Lee Jones & Jim Carrey in the 3rd. They didn't steal the movie. This is why I like the 3rd the best of the original 4 movies. The 4th, even though they had Schwarzenegger, SUCKED!!! I'm 'kinda' glad for this. This is why they made the 2nd movie series. My Favorite of ALL the "Batman" movies Is DEFINITELY "The Dark Knight"!!! 😁🦇👍
Batman & Robin....that movie in my opinion was like torture. Just awful on every level. Its the first movie i saw in a Cinema and thought "what is this crap!" The other movie was The Phantom Menace.
Profit is profit. And I’m blaming even that slight profit down to Keaton turning up. Fans may hate the Flash overall and the movie, but like me, many people just watched it to see Keaton’s Batman again. Just saying
I'm not even gonna watch this. Keaton reprised his role and i hated it. Batman doing a kamikaze is bizarre. Batman doing a kamikaze and failing is just wild.
On a scale of 1 to 10 Tim Burton and Schumacher's Batman movies rates like a 5, the action scenes in Burton's Batman sucked, I really don't know what Schumacher was going for besides just being corny what is quips and bad jokes
Wait, wait, wait. Let's be honest. The Flash movie was NOT a success. But in truth, the ONLY reason to watch it is because of Michael Keaton's Batman! ...and Ben Affleck's Batman and Sasha Calle's Supergirl.
This whole video feels like it was written and recorded with AI. "Sole reason why The Flash was a success." LOL, what? I don't even hate the film. In fact, I think its kinda decent. But it is without question a massive flop. Calling it a success is just...not true, lol.
Only reason I watched the Flash was to see Keaton as Batman again. I think a lot of people did for that reason, and for that reason alone I think the film made a slight profit
@DrReelTV the way he was killed was laughable.the escape scene was the only thing of note and they sabotaged afflecks suit on purpose I think as it was diabolical
Michael Keaton is Batman.

@@DrReelTV for Realz on that ! 🦇
And Marlon Waynes would have been Robin, no cap!
Ezra Miller hasn't got the faintest idea of what running looks like - except when he's running from the law
lol at the running comment 😂
I was with it until they said Marlon Wayans as Robin. Nope. That would’ve been a major backlash from the fans and probably would’ve been just as demonized as George Clooney’s batsuit nipples.
Yeah I don’t we were ready for Marlon as Robin at that time. But it was seriously being considered.
Agreed
Wow! This video is really late😂
But this channel is really new. Welcome in 🙂
how abpot michael keaton batman teams up with nicholas cage superman and he says i heard about you
lol interesting
I us there's a difference of opinions, but I would say MK is the best batman as he said the standards for those after him
He did set the bar for Batman for sure
Christian bale
I’m a big Bale fan but I think the Nolan Batman trilogy was overshadowed by the brilliant villains performances
0:50 sorry what fucking world are you living in where The Flash is a success
Profit is profit. And I’m blaming even that slight profit down to Keaton turning up. Fans may hate the Flash overall and the movie, but like me, many people just watched it to see Keaton’s Batman again. Just saying
I'm not even gonna watch this. Keaton reprised his role and i hated it. Batman doing a kamikaze is bizarre. Batman doing a kamikaze and failing is just wild.
If you have to make a 14 minute video explaining why someone is the ultimate Batman, he's not the ultimate Batman.
On a scale of 1 to 10 Tim Burton and Schumacher's Batman movies rates like a 5, the action scenes in Burton's Batman sucked, I really don't know what Schumacher was going for besides just being corny what is quips and bad jokes
Val Kilmer was better
aha shot the Joker with a poker ridiculous....
"Sole reason why The Flash was a success."
LOL, what? I don't even hate the film. In fact, I think its kinda decent. But it is without question a massive flop. Calling it a success is just...not true, lol.
We are not bzzt? crrrrskkk! tssk* AI... Keaton is Elon Mu##*zzt!... ... [Reloading]
"Why The Flash was a success." Yeah right
I think I only watched it because Keaton came back as Batman
@@DrReelTV Same
Thumbs down for crapping on forever
Actually Val Kilmer as Batman was not bad at all. The question is how was Batman Forever compared to the other two Batman film prior to that.
Hey it COULD Still HAPPEN Because This BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE IS A BIG HIT!
True
He was good but he’s a little overrated in how some people say he’s the best one. I’ll always say that Christian Bale is the best Batman.
I guess Keaton's Batman never had to scream "Where is she!?"... He was just a stone cold demon - truly terrifying and unstirred
@@DrReelTV Neither did Bale’s but nice try buddy
The flash wasn't a hit it was a turd
Only reason I watched the Flash was to see Keaton as Batman again. I think a lot of people did for that reason, and for that reason alone I think the film made a slight profit
@DrReelTV the way he was killed was laughable.the escape scene was the only thing of note and they sabotaged afflecks suit on purpose I think as it was diabolical
