Places like Cowboys Stadium in Arlinton used eminent domain to get property. They made offers to house owners. But some didn’t want to sell.
Texas Motor speedway uses eminent domain.
They want to put power lines up across property, they use eminent domain. Then the property can be used for anything and who wants to live near huge power lines.

Eminent domain needs to be abolished along with property tax.
Only citizens born in America should be allowed to own land and their land should be theirs outright castle doctrine?.
Corporations should be excluded from owning habitable dwellings of any sort.
Maybe pass a law that lakes need to be constructed on federal lands.

@wrench..... that makes TOO MUCH sense! Country living in Texas is extremely difficult - taxed at 'market value' as an 'unrealized gain' is wrong - government entities should wait for their cut when property owners sell ... it's a system rigged to encourage speculation ... I appreciate these 'heritage operations', but what about those of us who purchase acreage in our 20s (instead of new BMWs) to raise our children on, only to be excessively taxed on land we had hoped would be multigenerational ...

I moved here during the pandemic from Utah. I used to work for the Air Force as a civilian making 80k a year and was being told I was loosing my job if I don’t take the Covid shot. I worked there through the Oboma years and in 8 years of him only got a 1 percent raise and was furloughed with a half days pay and had to go cut grain for my brother to make it by. I was done working for the government. So me and my fiancé decided to move to free Texas with my boy and her boy. With no jobs down here and not mowing what we was going to do We moved into a house that is on FM71 east of Talco and now we are finding out our lad could be taken from us for pretty much nothing. We own own our land from what we got out of our house in Utah. Now to know we will be misplaced without enough money to move anywhere else but to maybe a single ace house is devastating. I pray this don’t go through.

The Petition Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of the people "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The right to petition has been held to include the right to file lawsuits against the government. I suggest American ranchers and farmers join forces with supporters of their communities. Imminent domain was not meant to be this invasive towards multiple states and families its a severe overreach of gov and corporate powers... stand up and fight for your rights or they will continue to abuse this law.

You know believe it or not a very, very similar thing happened to people in my little crooked home state of RI... they forced people to sell their land to them in order to build a reservoir ...and then they never built it. They have done similar things all over important pieces of property. Makes me sick to my stomach what is happening to this country.

    • @bonzocleach2496

That can happen; but Texas has recently completed some new reservoirs and has several more under construction. They have a population of 30 million and growing. This reservoir is going to happen.
Non reservior related, the State or Federal Government is going to have to take a lot of land from private land owners to build the wall Trump promised. Let's not forget the pipelines.

I moved to NE Texas a little over 3yrs ago from Southern PA. Within 4mos, I saw TX changing. Was warned 6mos after moving here, by the best farrier I ever had, born and bred Texan, I needed to get out. Then he sold his 48acre farm at the height of selling in '21...and got out. TX is not the free state people think it is. The things I've seen go on in this town I'm in have been jawdropping. Especially with the township water, which they are covering up, when a born and bred TX gal uncovered what they were doing. Yet they keep tearing down more forest to build more gated developments. I'm 2yrs east of Dallas. Heard they wanted to lay pipe from Lake Palestine, where Tyler gets their water, to get water to Dallas. Problem is, the city of Tyler was fined by the EPA, not many yrs ago, for dumping raw sewage in that lake. I got an apt to look around first. Now I'm glad I did, as this is not where I want to live out my life. They'll put up billboards there is a burn band, yet I drive thru this town and see all these grocery stores and businesses watering their lawns at night. There is a drought! Who cares if your lawn is green! Makes zero sense. Always wanted to buy a small farm in TX, start a boarding facility, but my Mustang mare and I are missing the hills of PA and the nice weather. It may be corrupt in PA, but I'm finding it worse here. This whole series Trinity is doing about this lake and imminent domain proves that. Texans best stand up, before those running their state destroy it. The property and school taxes here are insane. Praying for those affected by this lake that they ban together and get this stopped.🙏

Outside of Austin Texas they want to build a major road through someone’s property. It’s also a generation owned property. They are fighting it. County wants to give fair market value for eminent domain. Have you seen property for sale anywhere in Texas. Fair market value is a fraction of what land is actually selling for.
I guess with the larger road moving in priority value will increase. But what’s next, you can’t have it in agricultural use and will get rezoned as industrial and then they tax you out of ownership basically forcing you to sell cause you can’t afford to keep it.
Is that how it is? They are just going to keep building more crap we don’t need? More malls, more houses, more mcmansions, more apartments and for what exactly? Progress. That’s bs, follow the money.
Can’t blame landowners for wanting $10 million for property.
Housing developments are going to put 3 to 4 homes per acre, at $350k-$600k each. And they are upset cause landowner may not want to sell or land owners are selling to make their fortune but if developers don’t want to pay what land owners are willing to sell for, so they get politicians to use eminent domain to low ball land owners and steal property in the name of progress.

I’m from Canada and several major oil producers have left the Alberta oil sands moved directly to Texas…due to less restrictions..but the trade off for all that future development…water
in the Canadian province of Alberta the oil sands used more than a billion cubic metres of water used 2024, up from 613 million cubic metres in 2009.
