Now _THIS_ is how you do a Forester! Sure, it doesn't make a ton of horsepower, but the mods Jimmy has done are perfect. Really loving the looks of the car, inside and out. Plus that valvetronic exhaust is brilliant. Wonderful build!
+JoshorBrownKid except for the fact the he spent all that money and time on the swap and parts and is running and off the shelf map on the tune. That engine should get a custom tune for it if you want it to last.
+JoshorBrownKid except for the fact the he spent all that money and time on the swap and parts and is running and off the shelf map on the tune. That engine should get a custom tune for it if you want it to last.
Thomas Folse how did ur build go, i have a sports xt and im wanting to do a sti like build im not sure what the best parts i could get for the best price are though
Just want to say:1. Matt, thank you for the videos throughout the week. I watch them on my lunch break every day. It's my zen moment...2. Very interesting car. I like the concept, though I would have a street adjustment and track adjustment for the suspension. It looks like it would be fast on a track, but real world it was struggling a bit.3. Great interior mods. I'm not usually an interior guy, but he has done a great job thus far.4. With the fog; easily one of the best drives, despite the foggy lens/windshield.5. In regards to people having problems with their cars when they bring them; I think every car guy/gal can relate to that. It never fails that when you are showing off your pride and joy, some previously perfectly functional thing will fail in an embarrassing way. Fact. Thanks again Matt!P.S. Come out to NE Oklahoma/North Central Arkansas sometime for some great roads!
For what it's worth I've tested all manner of huge power cars in the last few years, and own a bunch of cars, and the fastest one makes "only" 400 wheel and I'm happy that way.
No way! I've been following this forester on instagram for a while now, makes me miss my XT I had to sell before travelling long term. So clean and well built!
Hey man you should spray some rainX on your rooftop cam for situations like these. The slightest bit of moisture blows away with the lightest of breezes. Just a tip for the future! +TheSmokingTire
@TheSmokingTire you sir are a breath of fresh air regarding youtube videos and what you do for the car community. Wish us motorcycle guys had a clone for bikes. Jay is great obviously but you sir have a knack for relating and communicating with the younger generations (me being a Gen X guy). Cheers and thanks again.
As others have mentioned here in the comments, OTS tune with all of these mods... it's no wonder there was some hesitation. My main issue is with Varex Mufflers on Subarus in general. There's a reason that Aussie Subaru Tuners generally steer clear of those adjustable systems (I say Aussie, because Varex is an Australian brand. I.E. MCM's complete obsession with those exhausts). If you're not protuned for both exhaust configurations, you will risk motor issues... and generally most people who run these systems only tune their car to run one of the setting (quiet or open mode). Otherwise.... man, this is an awesome Forester. Really my favorite year, and some great mods altogether. The ver 7 tranny is the choice mod, IMO. But the foglights behind the grill, is my favorite middle finger to the guys that run unimaginative/pointless Hella Horns in the same spot! Bravo and *thumbs up*
+BlueHokage Thank you for the complement. RE the Varex, I do not drive the car hard or go into boost at all when closed. I only close it for low speed neighborhood driving and highway low throttle cruising. At all other time it is open. The map is designed for a 3" downpipe with any 2.5" or greater catback which is what I have.
+jshaw6600 Great car, wicked vid. Thanks for sharing your setup. I have a 2005 JDM STI Forester, which I'm modding now, so it was great to hear your ideas. Thanks again.
Tyler D. Congrats on the purchase! They truely are great cars for almost any type of driving scenario. The varex mufflers arent so bad that your EJ motor will blow instantly, it's just that if you aren't careful with modifications, you are certainly more susceptible to seeing issues. Either way, I don't drive my Subaru like an idiot, and that's likely why it's still going strong at far over 240k miles (I save the maniac driving for my sportbike).
Gorgeous Forester! I love these so much! I've been seeing a handfull of STI swapped forester xt's in my area and all of them are super clean and gorgeous. Subaru owners honestly are one of the best modifying car enthusiasts. I want to build a STI swapped Forester XT soon! It's a Great all-around car for driving family and friends around, lots of cargo space, and you have plenty of horsepower to have fun and enjoy the ride from point A to B.
Again no audio issues that I could notice. I'm sure there must be some minor ones (Matt and a few others have mentioned), but I hear no issues on high quality earphones.
Awesome. I myself have an 06 forester xt with an AK2 engine built at Lachute performance quebec. Dynoed @ 348 Awhp 350 lbs/ft. Would love to have the STI drivetrain though.
i had the same hesitation on my bmw 323ci (what is wierd bcause non turbo) it turned out to be the fuel pump that was on the way out , somethimes it happened 2 times a day and sometimes it didnt for a few days
It's pretty normal for stuff to go wrong with cars when other people drive them. We have certain patterns of driving that either intentionally avoid known problems or accidentally avoid ones we don't know. A new person doesn't have those patterns. Suddenly, other stuff appears. I always remember this with my corrado that I had a number of years ago. I had an issue with the hydraulic clutch when I kept my foot on the clutch. I decided to stop leaving the car in gear when not moving and... problem solved. It never came up again until someone else got in the car and kept their foot on the clutch at a light. i had forgotten all about it and suddenly, there it was.
+leloodallasmultipass So right. I've never full throttled uphill at altitude with extra load in the car. Suddenly when that happens, a problem pops up lol. I've since been able to intentionally replicate the fuel cut too. Fun. Protune coming beginning of next year.
jshaw6600 btw, I have a 2008 xt sports. I've done nothing to it so far, but I've owned it since new. I don't want to do too much since I'd rather spend the cash on my DD, but I bought a suspension for it recently. I need to install. I bought exactly the same tires as you, also;)
I swaped my 06 fxt with a 2004 sti stering rack the only problem i ran into was you cant use the stock lines because the threads are different but I just bought chase bays braided hoses for the same sti rack and worked perfectly.
As far as I know the USDM STi rack is 15:1 so if you have that one should be the same as mine. The 13:1 racks came in spec C's and now the 2015. In reality though increasing caster with the offset bushings, adjusting your camber as well as toe, in addition to balancing the body-roll with with the thicker sway bars could dynamically improve your steering input response. The factory sets up these cars to oversteer at the limit because its easier to correct for a novice but try getting yours to turn in neutral off throttle and when on throttle induce a natural oversteer bias. It will be difficult with coil-overs to get that but it isn't impossible. What spring rates are you running?
Miran Sidoine The stock Forester steering ratio 19.1:1 in the center to 15.2:1 near the ends. It's progressive, not linear. All USDM STi's before '15 have a 15.2:1 linear steering ratio. I'm currently running a 24mm front, 22mm rear sway bar. My alignment specs which I intentionally set in early summer are +4° Caster, -0.8° rear camber, -1.8° front camber and 0° toe all around. Most people don't know that Subarus come with more rear camber than front from the factory which makes them understeer much more than they would if they flipped these around. My camber is mild and toe is 0 because I drive my car alot and would like my tires to last. I'd like to think my car is quite neutral as is. While I cant get it to oversteer while autocrossing unless I flick it, it doesn't understeer into corners with mild throttle, neutral, or braking. Springrate is 7k/5k on Swift coilover springs. A bit on the softer side for daily comfort, but there are many time I wish I went stiffer.
Sounds awesome bro my TEINS are actually 6k/5k and I find them firm for daily(came from tokico struts and vogtland progressive springs). Your front swaybar setting is what cancelling out the oversteer. If they numbers were reversed 22mmf and 24mmf you'd see the back come around on demand with the throttle.
Now _THIS_ is how you do a Forester! Sure, it doesn't make a ton of horsepower, but the mods Jimmy has done are perfect. Really loving the looks of the car, inside and out. Plus that valvetronic exhaust is brilliant. Wonderful build!
Thanks Josh! I appreciate the complement.

Vegaspsycho OTS map was temporary from the get go. Was supposed to have a Flexfuel tune before filming but life got in the way. That's coming soon.
+jshaw6600 Awesome forester man, I'm buying an 07 NA forester and I plan to do the same body style and suspension setup as this.
I saw the thumbnail for this video and I don't think iv'e clicked on a video faster. Love these cars so much
Ahaha oath to that
I have a 2008 sports edition, in world rally blue, it has a five speed. About 100 of these were made, I am going a full sti conversion
Thomas Folse how did ur build go, i have a sports xt and im wanting to do a sti like build im not sure what the best parts i could get for the best price are though
I love the sunroof in those. It's so massive! Its such a minor detail but it's so nice!
This would have to be one of the best modded Forester's I have seen, not over the top, just clean with great mods!
doing one takes is probably the best thing that you've done for this channel
it makes the video that much more enjoyable when the owner of the car can hold a conversation
Audio was fine. Fog wasn't bad at all. Everyone needs to chill.
Just want to say:1. Matt, thank you for the videos throughout the week. I watch them on my lunch break every day. It's my zen moment...2. Very interesting car. wowzers one of the cleanest cars on this page so far, i think!
Thanks!
jshaw6600 Nice XT, m8! I have a blobeye STi :D
Tyler Dowd Nice! Love blobeyes
I like jimmy. Jimmy seems like a cool guy. We should all strive to be mroe like jimmy. Nice job Jimmy, keep up the good work.
+jusocrazy Lol thanks! -Jimmy
Boy, Id love it if my car had "mild" power of 280 to the wheels. We've sure gotten spoiled with power. Wroom.
+123 456 yah definitely around town it's like a super car it seems like
For what it's worth I've tested all manner of huge power cars in the last few years, and own a bunch of cars, and the fastest one makes "only" 400 wheel and I'm happy that way.
No way! I've been following this forester on instagram for a while now, makes me miss my XT I had to sell before travelling long term. So clean and well built!
You get another one?
Love my 08' FXT sports. I haven't done nearly the stuff this guy has done but it's such a fun car. A head turner for sure.
that is one of the cleanest cars ive seen on a one take. Great job on the build to the owner
Jimmy looks like Questlove and his Forester is perfect. Great to watch.
I remember Jimmy talking about the crash in his last forester, good to see you're doing well, man.
+Tharee MaahthePuddi Thanks alot Tharee!
I drive an sti and i think this is my favouite subaru video you've posted. Wickedly cool car.
Another great week for One Takes
Nice ride, really nice. I liked the fog, it gave a creepy vibe to the video
I have a Forester of that generation. This makes me feel good.
Dope car. I like the Forrester STI trend. This is one of the best I have seen.
The Forester is such a shape shifter. Mild mannered family wagon, off road beast or deadly street machine. Love it!
Unequal length headers may not be the most efficient design, but they certainly make a great noise.
I was excited to see this since I love Sti swapped foresters. Happy to see the owner is as cool as the car.
probably the sickest subaru I've seen
im saving up for a winter vehicle and this is what i want is an XT! i love wagons and you can make these look so clean. great car man.
I left my XT in Japan and it sounded exactly like this.. Tear up watching this! I love Foresters :D
Hey man you should spray some rainX on your rooftop cam for situations like these. The slightest bit of moisture blows away with the lightest of breezes. Just a tip for the future! +TheSmokingTire
I wake up at 5am and watch them before work, then when my cars warm i misbehave.
Seen this Forester around Scv. Shows up to our meets every once and a while. Love it dude!
yep this just confirmed my decision. I'm getting a forester 🙊🙊
I like those badass torque android device installs.

Tyler D. Congrats on the purchase! They truely are great cars for almost any type of driving scenario. The varex mufflers arent so bad that your EJ motor will blow instantly, it's just that if you aren't careful with modifications, you are certainly more susceptible to seeing issues.

audio is good.
+alberto gorin Are you deaf? You can clearly hear a constant, high pitched, whine.
+ThePred8oars if you hear nothing you can t hear matt speaking your deaf i could hear matt qwiet and clear
+alberto gorin That's not the point though. There is a terribly annoying noise in the background. So no, the audio is not good.
+ThePred8oars fine have it your way sound was terrible.fine great
i can hear matt clear.
+ThePred8oars I was able to hear Matt clearly, and was so to occupied enjoying the car. Your're just a little bitch. GTFO!
Gorgeous Forester! I love these so much! I've been seeing a handfull of STI swapped forester xt's in my area and all of them are super clean and gorgeous. The way your voice inclined when you said "I don't give a fuck" almost made me fall out the chair laughing. You surprise me sometimes Matt lol.
I love these one takes man, keep up the good work!
You are now my morning show. Perfect length for chowing down my protein and heading out the door. Keep up the great work!:)
Well done! this sti forester is nicely done and looks like a absolute blast to drive
Matt...the audio is absolutely fine. Stop apologizing lol.
That is nice! Someone here in the SF Bar Area has a cool modded Forester that I see every once in a while.
nice guy and nice car. Thanks for the headlights Jimmy!
Moog inspired
+Dan Lee (Relaxedmass) it does on youtube. he copied moog 100 percent! moog is straight JDM from japan
He had almost the exact same forester but with a light brown colour.
+KoG GoK no it's not....
jody024 yes it does internet rules if big youtuber does something everyone else copied him.
KoG GoK
so lame
seems like a brilliant car. Not digging the general Forester look, but he made it pretty darn sweet..
Matt, when will we see your R32 GTR?!
+MrCargod05 he really owns an R32?
+omar fuller yeah he posted pics on instagram
***** Awesome! and would be awesomer if you have a link!!
On video, not for a while. I have 25 unaired one takes that will all go up first. Pics on my Instagram though
+TheSmokingTire WAIT. YOU GOT AN R32?!?!?!!!!!?!?!? Must....Seee.....Its my dream car. Fuck. HOW TOO INSTAGRAM? Lmao.
4:19 look at the sound of snap from the exhaust and the yellow flash on the road both perfectly sync
Wow, this car looks amazing!! Everything down to detail of this thing, amazing..
Very cool ride thanks for sharin brother!
I knew when I cliked on this video it would be good. The name had Subaru forester, modified, canyon road.
Nice car, and the huge sunroof is awesome!
The fog is nice. You should do some night episodes. Fog is even more awesome at night.
Really like this build! Matt you'll be happy to know that I managed to get the 2015 Sti steering rack in my 06 Sti!
Looking good Jimmy! Forester Family!
I believe it went into fuel cut because of the the weather outside weather is super dense so most boosted car will tend to over boost.
super cool Video again Matt! greets from Germany
I LOVE this steering wheel. It looks great.
nice Forester but bad fogrester.
+Dave Vo Oh geez haha
Stealth car.. bringing he smoke screen.
+Dave Vo Haha yeah the fog didn't seem as bad in person
Ben wobbly sauce and jshaw6600 : yeah, just kidding there.
+Dave Vo BETTER THAN YOU!
Hey, it's that "Oh no!" guy
I must add I love the steering wheel. It's fun even just looking at it
Soo... this guy really knows his shit. Awesome car.
Omg, too fast, high cliffs!! Freaking me out! Cool mods!
Again no audio issues that I could notice. I'm sure there must be some minor ones (Matt and a few others have mentioned), but I hear no issues on high quality earphones.
Very clean, nice, intelligent build.
That's a rad Subaru Jimmy!
+Alex Strong Thank you!!
Saw one o' these up the road today, great sight :)
Goddamnit I miss my 06 Forester XT! Mine was black, but completely stock. Fun car
This guy has to be the most polite guys
the fuel cut is just fuel sloshing around and leaving the pump dry for a sec if the tank was full it wouldn't have cut when he accelerated aggresivly
Seems like he has the same build as even shanks's STI hatch. Love it though!! Beautiful car.
Awesome. I myself have an 06 forester xt with an AK2 engine built at Lachute performance quebec. Dynoed @ 348 Awhp 350 lbs/ft. Would love to have the STI drivetrain though.
Fuel Cut thoughts: If running a manual boost controller, 2 big dudes=high engine load, if boost gets too high, cobb cuts fuel.
such a sweet car and chill dude!
i had the same hesitation on my bmw 323ci (what is wierd bcause non turbo) it turned out to be the fuel pump that was on the way out , somethimes it happened 2 times a day and sometimes it didnt for a few days
i love seeing modified foresters
i love how 280 at the wheels is mild power these days :D
Super sleeper is right. I love my Foz. Nice Foz Jimmy!
+01FozzyS Thank you!!
Your car was true...one of the few subarus on the road...I am joining you soon
damn that engine bay is clean
Woah, awesome build!
I like how Matt always denies pushing cars and the owners always say he is. Too funny

Fuel cut may be do to cobbs OTS maps. Happened to me. Once I got pro tuned it went away completely.
Love it Matt Love it love love it.
Love those spots behind the grille!
That's a nice Foz right there.
these foresters are so fucking clean, always loved them. only have seen one forester sti in my area....sadly
Wish you'd talked about the use of the Android pads as gauge clusters.
Love a tricked out wagon. Audis, Volvos, or one of these.
I have a weird hole @ 3k. tuner can't get it figured. but the car doesn't pull timing and no check engine lights so we just rock it!
I've got a xs and I've always wanted the xt. Ultimate family wagon. Or the outback sti swap. Pricey but worth every penny.
'Fuel cut for some odd reason'...... Off the shelf map!
I swaped my 06 fxt with a 2004 sti stering rack the only problem i ran into was you cant use the stock lines because the threads are different but I just bought chase bays braided hoses for the same sti rack and worked perfectly.
Fuck ya, WAGONS!!! :D
That's one bad-ass fuckin Forester. At first I said "wtf?" - thought it was just some riced shit slammed with rims, but now I see - damn good build!
jimmmy!! see you all the time at sfv meets
Jimmy, Thumbs up, nice clean ride.
lol the actual forester sti actually comes with a quick rack so he can source that if he likes.
+Miran Sidoine I have an 05 STi rack in this one. Is it better than that?

Miran Sidoine Yup. I may set the rear to 23mm since it's adjustable to help a little.
My 86 xt coupe... And 87 and 1/2 RX 3door... Had hill holder.. I never knew Subaru had it...
Nice clean ride
You should really have way more subscribers.
Cool owner, I like the car, a little more power, and steering rack, may cost but we have the next Forester and it is also having the slow rack.
