Yeah, they did some weird stuff there with the designations there for a bit for sure. I think most GM folks choose to ignore all that silliness and just us the original K and C instead 😉
@CarStarz42 R and V designation was created for 1987 to differentiate between the 1973-91 square body trucks and SUVs and the 1988-99 GMT400 full size trucks and SUVs. The GMT400 used the C and K designation.

I used to have a 1985 (same vintage as me) GMC Suburban, crate 350, factory 4-speed 4WD. It didn't have many miles and lived in Ocala, Florida all its life til I bought it, so it was CLEAN. How I wish I'd known how expensive square Suburbans would get, I'd have kept it forever instead of trading it for a car in like 2005 when I couldn't afford to drive it. I always planned on getting another one, but I'll never be willing to pay what a nice one costs these days.
Man, back in the 80's I was in my 20's. I wish I could've had bought one, but couldn't afford it. 😢 Now try to buy one in mint condition. 😮 Thanks for the great video. 👍🏻
That was one sweet rig. That river crossing was awesome, but it's sad that it couldn't really do it. I love the square body Blazers and Suburbans and I will always prefer solid axles. I just wish they weren't open diffs and didn't need lockers. I drove our '77 Blazer when I was in high school in the 90s. It had a 4' lift, 35in tires and my Dad swapped the 3/4 ton floating axles off a Suburban. It had a Dana 44 in front and a Corporate 14 bolt in the rear with an NP205 transfer case.
We sold our 96 suburban 12 years ago. Loved that thing. Sold it to a neighbor with over 350,000 miles on it. And the people we sold it to still have it. Lots of power and absolutely god awful mileage. Those big blocks are indestructible.
I've never seen this movie, but it's impossible not to imagine 007s Aston Martin DB5 being on a trailer behind that Suburban. They have Pierce Brosnan in this movie, for crying out loud!
The C/K series didn't end in 1987 but continued on with the new body style pickups. GM would continue to manufacturer the square body under the R/V designation (fleet sales for 3/4 ton and 1 ton) while the new body was officially re-badged C/K x500. While no longer used by GM, some states still classify GM trucks by the C/K designation. For example, my 2013 Sierra is registered as a GMC K1500 as the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles continues to use C/K as a simple 2wd/4wd designator. Also worth noting Silverado and Sierra were names for trim package designators prior to 1998 thus a 1991 Silverado 2500 4x4 didn't exist because it was a 1991 V2500 in the Silverado trim.
Thanks, yes I saw that on the old website, but you guys counted your replica as one of them and as good as that build was, it wasn't built for the movie; it was built long after, so I couldn't count that one of course. Awesome build though guys😉👍

Of course they had stock engines. Movie & TV vehicles don't have to actually go fast, they mostly just have to look like they're going fast and that's usually down to the camera work. Reliability is far more important because you don't want an entire movie crew standing around tapping their feet waiting on you.
Someone bought one of those movie suburban and seen that rig driving around council bluffs Iowa for awhile, and now I dont know what happened to it now
A guy bought it off Ebay when movie cars disposed of it. He loved it and kept it garaged. When he died his family members talked his wife into letting them drive it (quickly deterated). Then a father and son bought it and resold it.
A friend had a 1984 Chevy Blazer 305 ci automatic , with a lift kit and big tires, when he first got it ,the local 4wd club people pretty much laughed at it, according to them it was too big , and being automatic was not suitable, etc, etc. The attitude was that it would be inferior to their Land Rovers, Toyotas, etc. It turned out that it proved to be far superior , and went everywhere they did , but faster and more surefooted , he towed plenty of them out of bad situations.
Lol, yeah; that is a common opinion amongst those type of folks who often find themselves with their feet in their mouths after see just what "big" can do for you 😉👍

'Harry are you going to find the mayor's kids who grandmother is stuck on mountain while everything turning into disaster' you bet in his suburban will go through all of obstacles to saved the kids but unfortunately just as we get them (including grandma) we lose the only good suv to escape from the volcano by lava folks anyway thanks carstarz for today's video on 87 suburban dose prove how capable well bulit off road can be in emergency situations like this my friend anyway thanks once again and have a nice weekend bye now.
Indeed, lol. Yep, have a good one too 😉👍
@CarStarz42 thanks buddy and one more thing to ask you didn't know that another 90s action tv show existed where the hero drives a nice cobra (kitcar incase you know😅) whose one man fighting for justice type show and yes carstarz the name of show is cobra anyway i got to go bye now.
@@milfordh.mercado2787 That could only be the super short lived "Cobra" show. I do have that on my list to look into too already. Thanks 😉👍
@CarStarz42 🫡🫡 you too buddy.
Of course they had stock engines. Movie & TV vehicles don't have to actually go fast, they mostly just have to look like they're going fast and that's usually down to the camera work. Reliability is far more important because you don't want an entire movie crew standing around tapping their feet waiting on you.
Not always the case there, but usually so 😉
Someone bought one of those movie suburban and seen that rig driving around council bluffs Iowa for awhile, and now I dont know what happened to it now
😉👍
A guy bought it off Ebay when movie cars disposed of it. He loved it and kept it garaged. When he died his family members talked his wife into letting them drive it (quickly deterated). Then a father and son bought it and resold it.
1987 was also the year GM registered the name a decade after Plymouth discontinued thier Suburban model.
Interesting👍
Last Action Hero....Red 56 F100 small window!
Indeed, I have that truck on my to do list as well 😉👍
Nice
😉👍
A friend had a 1984 Chevy Blazer 305 ci automatic , with a lift kit and big tires, when he first got it ,the local 4wd club people pretty much laughed at it, according to them it was too big , and being automatic was not suitable, etc, etc. The attitude was that it would be inferior to their Land Rovers, Toyotas, etc. It turned out that it proved to be far superior , and went everywhere they did , but faster and more surefooted , he towed plenty of them out of bad situations.
Lol, yeah; that is a common opinion amongst those type of folks who often find themselves with their feet in their mouths after see just what "big" can do for you 😉👍
I thought the suburban in the movie was equipped with a 6.2 diesel, not a 5.7 350. does anyone else remember hearing a diesel rattle in the movie?
Definitely not a diesel, would have been even more beastly if it were though 😉👍
The best known of this was in style in movie theater was in twister
Indeed, they had a very similar feel to them indeed.
U do all the coolest cars love the channel
Glad to hear it 😉👍
Can you please do a video on the blazer from "jaws"?! It didn't have a ton of screen time, but my father and I are trying to restore a '73 (wrong year, I know) blazer and it's difficult to find details on. Thanks!
I'll add it to my big list to look into as you are the first to mention that one 😉👍
@@CarStarz42 thank you!
My 1985 chevy Suburban head the 6.2 L diesel motor. By time that truck has died, it had over 500,000 mi.
Impressive! 😉👍
At the next fact for dante peak you have to do harrys v30
Yeah, I'll probably get to some of the other cool vehicles in this movie at some point too 😉👍
And actually the 5.7, 6.2, & 6.5L Diesel's were all available to the public & The M1009 was the blazer & M1008 Was the 1&1/4 ton D30 pickup
Ok
Not sure how a submerged ecm would keep operating when the cab flooded
Waterproofing I suppose 😉
Twister Dodge Ram please, is my dream truck !
Wish granted as of a few minutes ago... rumble.com/v4sonmb-10-wild-facts-about-bills-95-dodge-ram-4x4-twister.html
The movie was ok, but I found the suburban super badass
Indeed the opinion of most as the movie itself was essentially a knock off of Twister, but with a Volcano instead of a Tornado 😉
@CarStarz42 Then again, I grew up in a 7th gen suburban so I biased
Fact: when he drove it over LAVA, the saddle tank full of GAS hanging off the frame just behind the cab should have exploded!
A lot of "other things" should have happened in that scene if it were real, but fortunately it was not 😉
@@CarStarz42 what? You didn't know 16 gauge sheet metal floorboards can protect you from molten rock? And there's DEFINITELY not any gasses coming off that molten rock that's superheated which would've seared their lungs, killing them... Or killing the engine of that truck when that snorkel sucked it into the carb. I could go on for a long time just on that one scene. Fun movie, horrible research done by the writers, though.
@@ScottLafray-dd2fp Lol, it's a stretch indeed 😁
Very iconic vehicle.
😉👍
Fact . when Ford and Dodges were dropped from military purchaces the military let their contracts expire, Chevys military contract was dropped before expiring.
Interesting tidbit, thanks.
That is 1 thing I did not know about the movie And stunts involving Trucks Men in my life Have really truck use And not just going to get groceries.
Yep
I still have a 1993 S10 Blazer 4x4
😉👍
When will we get a video about the dodge trucks in twister
Soon enough, seems to be a hot topic recently. Probably because of that new similar "Twisters" movie coming out in a couple months. Still not sure how I feel about that from the trailer, but we'll see I suppose.
How about Joe's Twister Jeep Comanche or Bill's Ram Truck ?
Yep, both are already on my large to do list, thanks.
I have no doubts. I've seen a lot about the ram just not the jeep.
I always wondered..... ¿Did he entered in the river in 2wd?
So the same current who roll a car, cannot unstuck it 😂😂😂
It was implied that it was in 4WD anyways considering that we can see the front tires pulling a bit upon exiting the river, but who knows, lol.
@@CarStarz42 It was curious, i was 9 when the movie go out in cinemas, and remember the protagonist pointing to the snorkel, telling the woman to don't worry.....
I just seen something like that in the final Chase of "man from u.n.c.l.e." where the protagonist cannot follow a land Rover With the bad Guy and the damsel in trouble, even when It got a "ultra 4" vehicle (in the 1960's 😅😅😅😅😂😂😂) because the Air intake is low
Converted Suburbans were just bodies on a M1008 platform. Used as command cars.
👍
This automobile caused HARM to other Human Beings!
Lol, ok.
