there are lots of older videos of him playing entire pieces, but they are older and the titles are in portuguese, the videos with snippets are a lot more recent, for views
This is one of many Scott Joplin’s pieces that I just can’t get enough of. His ragtime pieces are some of the most cheerful and lighthearted music ever composed. I’m so glad to be living in the same universe where Joplin exists.
Excellent comment, I totally agree, such lovely cheerful music. I myself learned "The Entertainer " a long time ago and couldn't stop playing it, it gave me such pleasure. Für Elise had a similar effect; another all time favourite, although not Joplin of course.
Scott Joplin was musical genius. I'd go into time signatures, tempo changes, and mode deviations, but he always smoothed out the transitions and made it sound good and free flowing. Pineapple Rag is almost like 3 songs in one, but in a short 3.5 minute length radio friendly diddy package. Well played! Nice quality.
I agree the harmonies are so complex as well. I can't play his pieces well, but I've sat down and worked on them and am always amazed by how beautiful they are.
i agree. first song i learned of his was maple leaf rag (classic) and i was surprised by how harmonically interesting it was, along with the various variations on one theme. so fun! i looked into more of his music and was not disappointed. bethena is my personal favorite of joplin, not a rag but you can tell its him. he was indeed a genius
Oh, this one took me back. When I took piano lessons as a kid, my teacher loved Scott Joplin. I learned this one and it's so nice to see that I actually was playing this piece at the proper speed back then (perhaps with a few more mistakes than you, lol!). This is seriously giving me the itch to get my instrument tuned up and dig that book out (yes, I still have it, 50 years later!) and give some ragtime a try again! Oh, and I love you have a shot of the pedal work! Gosh, I was doing that well too!
woman, there's only one life, and the piano once it's part of our life I never left, so study piano again because it's a wonderful thing and it will do you a lot of good
My grandmother played ragtime. She was born in 1896. She played the piano and/or organ for silent movies when she was young. She played the piano for family get togethers. My Aunt Uncle and my Mother would sing harmony to the old songs. But my favorites were the ragtime songs. They lift my spirits. I really miss her.
Oh my goodness, this is sublimely played - the right pace, not too rushed, every note equal weight smooth and flowing - really enjoying this, it's one of my top 2 Joplin pieces!!
It was because of seeing the Sting at age 13 that I started piano lessons. Half a century later, I haven't improved much (ha) but I still put the Entertainer, Maple Leaf, and a few other pieces under my fingers for my own personal joy. Joplin is in my DNA and I'm so grateful for having discovered him in that little Air Force theatre!
I recently heard Scott Joplin about 2-3 months ago and now I’m already in love with his music! It makes me so happy and it gives me a great mood every time I listen to this piece and many other pieces by him. Well done playing this dude 😄👍
Genuinely one of those "feel good" pieces of music 😁 it's one of my favourites, up there with James Scott's Frog Legs Rag - which stuck in my head from a young age because it was the intro music on a VHS, I had, about trains. Mad...
Very nice playing. It's much more enjoyable to listen to music played at the correct tempo rather than rushed through like so many seem to have to these days. Thanks for sharing it.
I used to have a game called Locomotion on my PC and this song played through the 1920s era of the game. First time I've heard it played anywhere else. Amazing work.
I'm imagining that this is how Mr. Joplin would have played this most wonderful work himself. Great job sir. One of my favorite ragtime pieces. Maple leaf rag is probably my mostest favorite.
I agree with you. This is my favourite of Joplin's songs. How appropriate I would stumble on this tonight as tomorrow morning I finally take delivery of an antique player piano (which has this roll in its collection!). I've been without a piano for more than 20 years when I had to leave my family piano behind when I immigrated to Canada. I look forward to tickling the ivories again and pumping the bellows when my old fingers get tired of playing on their own. Love your channel.
That is the most amazing sounding piano. I just love the tone and the lower notes are amazing. It's not harsh like many other pianos and is a real pleasure to listen to.
You cannot 'deny' true talent. Some have it and MANY do not. Nothing beats listening to the piano played well - rag, classic, songs from the 20's-40's or later. All superb.
You have more than SEVEN MILLION subscribers!?! That’s fantastic! I guess I’m not the only one who has enjoyed your channel for years - and I don’t think you have spoken a single word! I love it because you could live in any country and no one would know, so, everyone is focused on the music.
I've loved playing Scott Joplin on the piano since I was a teen. Started out with The Entertainer and Maple Leaf Rag (which are still great fun), but my faves today are probably Weeping Willow and Sunflower Slow Rag. I don't know if I've played Pineapple Rag that much, but after hearing your wonderful rendition, I'll have to add it to my repertoire!
Well done! I like pineapples, but they don't like me because of their overbearing sweetness that diabetics can't have. The pineapple tag I think will do no harm to me being a diabetic, so I will play or actually listen to this piece over and over. Thank you Scott for playing a sweet time that I can enjoy.
Scott Joplin’s piano rags composed some 125 years ago not only celebrate the American era in which they were composed but resonate today in timeless celebration of the American spirit. Joplin, a musical genius.
I saw the movie in London '74. When I came back to Denmark, the guys at the record shop were so happy somebody afsked about Joplin, they played the music over the loudspeakers.
Scott Joplin is my favorite also. I listen to your Maple Leaf rag regularly, it is one of the best versions I know. Thank you seriously for sharing this.
Your rendition is honestly the best I've heard. Grace with your fingering, pedal at the exact proper time, and perfect tempo! On top of it all, you're not making any dumb faces!
I like how you play it. The tempo is bright but just right. The touch is light with not too much pedal. I like some of the embellishments that you added. Your piano sounds pretty good. Also the recording was pretty well done. Pineapple rag is one of my favorite joplin pieces
I really like that you played the entire piece and not just a 5 second snippet. Well done, sir. Please play more whole songs.
That gave me a video idea - unfamiliar parts of songs you know =D
Very, very this.
there are lots of older videos of him playing entire pieces, but they are older and the titles are in portuguese, the videos with snippets are a lot more recent, for views
Nothing is more frustrating or more satisfying than cutting parts out or playing the entire piece of Pineapple Rag or any of Joplin's songs!

real pianists never disregard Scott Joplin... respect
I do …. Because he’s black
I love the way his piano sounds. It's so gentle and warm. It feels like the piano is smiling and happy to be played ❤

You had me at, "Scott Joplin was a musical genius," lol. I completely agree with your entire comment! Very insightful.
If he lived longer he would have transformed the music world much more!

Thank you for listening and now presenting complete (longer) pieces, showing your mastery in in the instrumentation of other's genius.

Oh yes, do it! I wish I could play this, we need more classic ragtime music in this world.
I'm not a piano player, but ragtime seems to be harder to play than many classical pieces. You should have held on to it 😊

I love Scott Joplin, and Pineapple Rag! More ragtime, please!
AWESOME, I love ragtime, no one better than Scott Joplin, THANK YOU, for a full piece!!

I agree, also.
Check out Richard Smith’s ragtime on guitar, phenomenal.

Joplin made sure to put a note at the top of all his sheet music that ragtime should never be played fast or rushed...
Looks like a lot of fun to play, too. Outstanding as always, Vinheteiro.
What a blessing that my granddaughter has been honor to share the same birthday date of Scott Joplin!!! 😊

Belíssimo. Adorei ver o uso do pedal (que é muito negligenciado em vídeos do RUclips). Vou estudar pelo teu vídeo, Lordão. Obrigado!

One of my favorite Scott Joplin rags, beautifully played. Thanks!
Scott Joplin wrote so many beautiful and upbeat songs. You did great justice on this one, as you do with all the music you play!

The proof ragtime is not easy to play: he does not stare at us.
Left hand doing so many jumps, ragtime like. So you better look at the keyboard.
