I really enjoyed reading this book when it came out but for all of the greatness Billy Beane had in turning the way a baseball roster was constructed, the glaring omission on the success of those early 2000s A’s was in the fact they had one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball in Hudson, Mulder and Zito - on the cheap through around ‘04 or so - and that the loss of Giambi and Damon weren’t felt because Miguel Tejada and Eric Chavez and Jermaine Dye - all of who are virtually unmentioned in the book or movie - all stepped out of Giambi and Damon’s shadows and stepped up their numbers and their play.
The movie makes it sound as if Billy’s scrapyard players were what drove the team that season with no mentions of these All-Star level individuals at all. It’s so dopey.

brad pitts best acting - often forget it him. usually he just plays a blander version of himself. definitely got his chops on for this role.

Move the fences back in every ballpark 20-50 feet. Let’s play the game to create LONGER PLAYS and more action batters to batter. Maybe put pitchers on pitch counts (80 pitches?) so we can hopefully keep these guys healthy. No back to backs for any pitcher except in the playoffs. NO more old guys calling balls and strikes. Time to move to a very accurate machine to do that job. Don’t want the World Series to be decided by a 60 yr old guy with a gambling habit.

The one thing I’d like to see change in baseball is to make it a lot harder to get a WALK. No one comes to the game to watch players EARN A WALK.
Start calling strikes from the arm pits to the knees (like when I was a kid) and MAKE HITTERS SWING THE F***ING BAT. To make it fair drop the mound to level with the playing field and move the pitchers back 18 inches to 62 feet. Knowing you have to swing the bat EVERY TIME at the plate “hopefully” will make the hitters more aggressive and produce more swings that end in contact and action. “Working the count” is boring and anti-fan. We want action similar to football and basketball. Soccer also sucks right now but that can’t be saved lol.

Pitt was right. They did change the game……for the worse. Walks suck. StrikeOuts aren’t great either. You know what is great? Stolen bases, triples, guys scoring from first on a long single, outfielders running a long way to make a catch, BUNTS, suicide squeezes, great line drive stabs by an infielder, inside the park home runs, spectacular double plays, etc…….ACTION!!!!!!!! Jesus can they just give the fan what they want?
    ACTION!!!!!

Bro, you just cant appreciate a great movie, where both their performances complimented each other.
Who hurt you bro! Do you know how much Johan Hill was paid for this incredible showcasing?? A whopping R5 big ones, only half of Brad's.. I wouldve paid both of them double.. for the gross of the firm..
Martin, keep your chin up frodo

@@audiblox14 They managed to get a lot of W by spending so little money. After that, a lot of teams adopted and improved their approach. That's why that team was so relevant. You can change a sport forever even if you don't win. Look at Netherlands 74 in soccer ⚽
