My favourite episode, must have seen it a hundred times or more and it still makes me belly laugh. Dermot Morgan who played Father Ted was a genius, taken from us far too soon, just as he had found the perfect role for his comedic talent too, I am sure this show would have led to even bigger and greater things for him. I often wonder how much bigger this show would have become had he not left us. Still, what a high to go out on, what a legacy to leave behind for generations to enjoy for many, many years to come.
In 2008 Ireland was so desperate to lose the European Song Contest that they entered a puppet turkey called "Dustin the Turkey". It's certainly worth watching this real turkey on RUclips.
This came about from real life. Ireland won the Eurovision in 92, 93 and 94. The winning country hosts the event the following year. It was rumored that it was so expensive to host that Ireland purposely put a shit song entry so they wouldn't have to host it again. Funnily enough the year this was made, 1996 is actually the last time Ireland really won the Eurovision.
This episode is actually based on a real life conspiracy theory. Ireland is the most successful country in winning The Eurovision Song Contest. The problem is that if you win the contest, then you have to host the contest the following year. It is a very expensive event to host, so the the theory was that Ireland started to select acts for the Euros that were not very good, so that they would lose and not have to host the competition again. Its a great episode.
My favourite part of the real life story is that one year a committee selected a song they believed would lose but not in a too-obvious way and it won. In ironic fashion we now can't win no matter how hard we try because most of the voting is politically motivated. The last one is a perfect example, Ukraine won. Everyone voted for them to stick it to Russia.

As others have said, Ireland was winning the Eurovision song contest at an unprecedented rate in the 1990's, with a still held record achievement of having won it three years in a row. Hosting the competition is enormously expensive (to the point that some countries didn't even bother participating this past year) and it was really starting to beggar the state to have to do it. All of a sudden and rather suspiciously, the quality of Ireland's songs to the contest began to dip from that point on. Coincidence! Brad looks so different in that intro 😂
My favourite episode and a timeless classic, especially if you've ever seen Eurovision.
The Divine Comedy were heavily involved in this episode and 'My Lovely Horse' is brilliantly bad.
If you like the theme tune you should look up 'Songs of Love' by The Divine Comedy, which was adapted for the show.
Oh hell yes!! Time to roll a big doobie, my cheeks always hurt after watching these with you guys lol xx
A big fat and long spliff rolled on a tea tray.
Great stuff great stuff 👌👌👏👏 you make life better
Did we miss Tentacles of Doom? Series 2 Episode 3? Or is it stuck in copyright limbo? It would be an awful shame to miss that one.
It's in appeal right now. If it doesn't pass, I'll put it in dailymotion
YES!
Hey Brad you could use that tune for something you mentioned at New year's and make song with it ... Bleed The Weed 🎶🎸🎤
Getting near that Nazi one and kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse episode, its supreme from here on in.
My Lovely Horse, still a banger...
So is the milkman pat mustard
There's some awesome cover versions of My Lovely Horse on RUclips.
The Irish humour is wonderful. I'm slightly bias ,having my ancestors left Ireland in the mid 1700s but I obviously have Liffey water running in my blood 😊like Spike milligan ❤🇬🇧🇨🇮
What's with the Union Jack and the Flag of the Ivory Coast, also you don't want Liffey water in you its filthy
@@aidanmoran12 😂
@@aidanmoran12 your quite right and I apologise but its been quite a while since the mid 1700s ,give this silly Englishman a break mat. , were still learning . Did I mention Muppet say, Liffey water. I meant Irish wine
Calm down mate read some Spike
Guy's you really should listen to the band The Divine Comedy, the theme tune is by them n also the my lovely horse 🤣🤣🤣 they're music is great ❤❤
Actually, I play both songs on the guitar regularly 😁
where you get ya tshirt from?
Flea market 😁🍻
Have you thought about learning the theme song on guitar? its by the divine comedy called songs of love ❤❤❤
I already have. I play it regularly. 😊🍻
@@bradlucy I've been gone for so long!!!
All of the swearing in the bedroom-
Sounds like Brad on a Sunday-
I didn't know that Brad was a priest.
😲🤣🍻
"Same happens with psychiatrists" - I'm sure it does but I doubt that it's common. After all, they'd potentially lose their license. Not that many can be that dumb to risk that.
What probably does happen regularly is that they talk about problems in an anonymized manner. Which I think is understandable and fine, since they are humans too and need to get things off their chest.
My lovely horse is actually about heroin if you play it backward
You can watch the eurovision song contest
What year was father ted doing it
👍
So you know as long as do a short video, I am limited to this tablet and community post aren't currently available on this device

Off topic but beautiful woman..... lucky guy 🙏
😂😂👏👏👏👏
'Pooped out'...🙄
the eurovision contest is actually a rip off as many country's always vote for the country that have better trade with them ,you just have to connect the dots glad we left
Thats one of the reasons i call it euroshitten. The music is shite and the scoring system is a farce.
You mean Brexit means our trade has suffered? Good Lord. Its almost like we committed economic suicide for petty nonsense reasons.
🤦♂️
I love it even thou Ireland is crap😂
