I put up a 30x72 High Tunnel through NRCS. I live in NC. I have a 50% shade cloth I use from June to Aug then I take it back off. I grow 10 months out of the year. I have done several other practices like conservation cover that helps pollinators and bees. I plan on getting some hives next year.
My husband and I looked into this last year. Working with the "government" made me too nervous so we just went on with things we could do on our own. FYI we are retired and I turn 70 next month, disabled so we do a lot of raised beds that are not allowed in a tunnel through them. So happy for your family and love learning from you. We have been homesteading for around 32years. I am also prepping more than before and on my knees for what is to come. God Bless
I live in an HOA. Each lot is 5 acres. I raise homey bees and qualified as a USDA farm. I applied in 2018 and was approved in 2020; about $15k. I already added a 320ft Ag well, the largest expense. Next is my High Tunnel, but metal prices have skyrocketed so Im waiting. Grants are taxible income though, so dont forget come tax time.
I am so glad I found this channel! I cannot express how much your family has been a blessing to me! As a single mom getting into the homestead/homeschool life I have been overwhelmed and can sometimes let my anxiety postpone certain jobs like chicken processing but after watching your meat processing video and others on your channel I have been gaining so much knowledge and wisdom that I get over being overwhelmed to keep going. The realization I don’t have to be a farmer to homestead and the best advice from Annie is I have to learn is how to stop when there is enough. I am also in Northern Illinois and it is amazing to learn valuable information from a homestead in my zone. God bless your family in your ministry.
Years ago I managed a ranch.. utilized this program or one like it to get ponds constructed, terraces built, barbed wired fence put up. It was great. Going to check on the high tunnel…. Thanks to you both for sharing this video 🙏
WOW !!! Thanks for all of the great information and encouragement !!! I will be looking forward to a chat with my local county extension agent about this very project !!! Hurray !!!

I think FarmTek will send you a High Tunnel if you send them the approval paperwork from NRCS, Because they know that’s Guaranteed Payment. FarmTek use to offer 0% Interest for 2 years when I purchased my first Greenhouse. I think FarmTek has Installation videos on RUclips
@@HeartwayFarms Hi so to clarify. You can't plant in a raised bed or a structure of the ground (with own soil or media) that's not directly connect to the soil beneath?

I got High Tunnel Funding, and they let me put down Ground Cover with Holes Cut in it, so I could still grow directly in the Dirt.
I tried to find the recommended links under your video for NRCS, but I don't see them. Am I looking in the wrong place?
How level does the ground have to be for the high tunnel?
We are considering a high tunnel or hoop house. Do you have to be classified as a “homestead” to apply for grants?
Are you required to plant certain crops? Are you required to sell the produce?
It can be for personal or production. You must plant directly in the soil.
not in idaho
@@HeartwayFarms Hi so to clarify. You can't plant in a raised bed or a structure of the ground (with own soil or media) that's not directly connect to the soil beneath?
@@yawjunior raised beds can be used as long as they have a base that ties into the ground.
@@HeartwayFarms thank you
What did they reimburse you per sq ft?
I will never have government control and say and do what I do
i heard no chickens housing HOWEVER, IT'S HOW TO jump start poor soil
What company did you order your house from?
nope you do NOT NEED TO BE A FARMER. JUST STARTED
Nothing is free. Get the government out of your life or live to regret it
