thanks man this was very helpful! watching your videos inspired me to buy and learn the ney over the past few months (turkish and egyptian ney) your playing is beautiful and very inspiring thanks much love ~rob
Thanks for explaining this Niri, it has cleared up some of the confusion I was feeling about how to oil my neys. I was getting worried about black mould appearing in the blowing chamber, but from your response to another comment below it seems this is nothing to worry about?
Excuse me. Grape seed oil? I think what that's the word that you say, isn't? Good information. Y use whit excellents results for all the neys that I make sunflower oil because I read this information in a website to an turkish maker and because is economical an suitable here in Sebta. Do you think it's right or wrong? Salam.
Hello! Thanks for this channel. Now at Quarantine I'm finally having the opportunity to dive into the Ney I bought some time ago. But now, the only option available for me is olive oil. Should I use it?
Very helpful thank you. Note you say the top of Ney most benefits from oil; is this the same for the Persian Ney which has the brass Sari to protect it? Great work
I have an Arghul from Egypt. It is made from a similar reed grass as the Ney I believe. Would the same oil be recommended as the Ney? Arghul also has a reed. Maybe I should look into care of Duduk reeds? I don’t know.
Is it bad to soak the Ney rapped in plastic foil with the oil inside? I have been told to soak it for a couple of ours each week. Would you not recommend that?
@@Arabinstruments Thank you so much for your reply, it's much clearer to me now. I've had ney for 2 years and I'm learning and practicing playing every day. The man from Istanbul I bought Ney told me yesterday that I needed to maintain the instrument with oil. Please just answer me can I use marigold oil to maintain ney flute? Thank you from my heart and soul 🙋♀️
@@nirisadeh hello dear Niri! Please, i have a question. If i play the Ney every day is it ok to oil it after the playing? I mean, when i breath some moisture is getting in the ney, is it okay to oil when it was recently played? Some of the moisture from my breath is not bad? I use almond oil. Thank you in advance.
I don't think so. One of the reasons for oiling a nay, or any woodwind instrument, is to prevent the wood from getting dry and cracking. Water will evaporate very quickly, but oil absorbs into the wood and stays there much longer :)

I have found sesame oil to be too heavy also and would worry about organic rot where as grapeseed oil seems to have natural anti-rot.

Is it possible to lubricate with sunflower oil?
hello!
how thick is the wire that you use for the binding of your neys?
thanks
how you should clean up the ney? thank you!

Hi. Can wallnut oil be used?
Hello, do you use grape seed oil?
Lemon oil? Also, wiping off oil is not necessary?
Hello, how are you, Professor ney flute. I have a question for you, can I clean ney with marigold oil? Another name for this oil is Calendula.
Hey, you don't clean a ney with oil. You prevent cracks or over drying with oil. If you want to clean it use rag with a little water and dry it...

Is sunflower oil bad for ney? It seems very light to me. But I don't know if it's messier than the ones you use or if its too acid.
What is the result? Is it possible to lubricate with sunflower oil?
Sorry you already answering this question before, i reed it now! ":-)
