    A bad person doesn't worry about not being a good person :) this simple advice was given to me so I wouldn't worry as much

    • @randomtrucks
      @randomtrucks 5 лет назад +3

      I think about that a lot, it's my biggest insecurity at the moment, but remembering that caring about being a good person is all that matters. Also not having huge, unrealistic expectations on yourself regarding what being "a good person" actually means. Also being surrounded by good people/friends is a pretty good indicator for me personally that I can't possibly be _that_ bad.

    One of my wonderful profs once taught us in a lecture to practice "self meh". Self love is unpredictable and hard to maintain, so if you approach the mirror and see something you hate, just think "meh" and continue on. The zit isn't going to end you, the double chin is just extra skin, the size of your thighs just is. Meh. And then love the hell out of everything you love.

      This is great! Definitely not at self love yet so that self MEH is spot on how i feel about myself. Acceptance and not stressing over self love.

    Always relate to your RUclipsr-thoughts. Your videos have always been the videos I’ve compared myself to and thought mine are shitty and yours are amazing hahah. And it just goes to show that even though we might be looking at others as better, people might be looking at us as better as well, when we’re all just different.

    Speaking of space...How awesome was that black hole photo? I like the idea that rather than letting the vast endlessness of space make you feel insignificant, you use it as a way to feel fortunate to exist at all.

    I’m an astronomy major (hopefully future astronomer PhD!!) and the insignificance of our existence brings me so much comfort too!! For me I understand a lot of the math and physics behind it and that too brings me so much comfort in understanding really how unlikely and ridiculous it is! I also totally understand imposter syndrome. As an astronomy student I don’t have the best gpa and I don’t always do the best in my classes but I’ve been trying really hard, and sometimes I feel like I don’t belong and like I’m not smart enough to do it. Especially since all my friends/boyfriend in the same major do so much better. It’s really hard not to compare when I’m in that situation, but I have to remind myself that I was far behind them before college and now I’m actually catching up to them just by my shear will and effort! Thanks for alll your videos, you always make my day better!

    All the stuff you said about us being so small and insignificant is actually how I've been helping myself too!! I think that way of thinking can be problematic for some people, but I tend to take everything way too seriously so it has helped me take a step back and be like it's okay. Another thing that really helps me is to try putting myself on the same level that I put everyone else from their point of view. Like you know how you'll interact w ppl in class or at work and think how beautiful they are or how smart they are? Flipping it around and telling myself that it's entirely possible that people around me are thinking the same things about me. It's hard but it's been helping

    Right on! I love this. And im glad you mentioned the thing about space because that's one of two things I try to remember to keep things in perspective when there's something I'm stressed about, how tiny and insignificant we are in the universe. The other one is how short life is so will I care about or even remember this on my death bed? Almost certainly the hell not!

  • @CherrySimss
    @CherrySimss 5 лет назад

    YES! I am diagnosed with anxiety disorder, and when I feel anxious about little stupid things I ALWAYS remind myself of how small we are in this universe. Like mindblowing small! Our lives and everything happening around us is just literally nothing. For me it really helped me getting better from my anxiety. I am and will ALWAYS be in love with astronomy. Btw: I am also very happy to be alive at this time because of everything we as humans are discovering lately. We are and keep writing history and even though we are nothing, it is a lot.

    what I've learned growing up is that I always try to see the best in people. Some of my friends are better at different things and I like to learn from them, and what their incite can offer me. Vice versa, I have my strengths and weaknesses as well and by talking with them I give them my perspectives on things as well. When I was younger I thought not conforming to other people was good but now I just don't care. I just do things for myself and if my family or friends think it's cool then they can join me.

    When having doubts about myself I basically repeat in my head everything you just said and it works sometimes. But I never thought about how vain it is !! This really opened my eyes ! I think it'll help me a lot actually.
    Every time I feel like I need to change something to my body, getting breast implants, getting lip fillers,... I tell myself "would you ever really care if you were all alone on an island ?" And then I realise I don't even want to change anything to myself.
    Thank you for the advices. Loved this video! ❤

    It‘s lovely how you care about others so much that you want to help them find their own selfworth. This video describes many thing I feel as well. And many thoughts which actually comfort me as well (like the insignificant thing, it really helps me)
    I really hope I can some day be confident with who I am and be myself more often. I‘m quite optimistic..because if I look back 5 years to when I was 18 holy was that another time for me. I‘ve come so far so I‘m confident I‘ll get even further.

    You're a beautiful person inside and out. You should never have issues with low self esteem. Just be your beautiful self. You first have to happy with yourself and and like who you are. Just the fact that you're wearing glasses more often tells me that you're self confident about your looks now. I went back and looked at videos where you weren't wearing glasses and of course your beautiful without glasses but honestly you're every bit as attractive wearing glasses.

    I totally agree with the whole fillers & surgery thing. I'm all for people doing what they want, and it's great that society is becoming more accepting of people making their own choices, but I do feel like we should work on loving ourselves before altering our appearances. Because if you don't love yourself already, sometimes those fillers or that surgery won't make a difference to your self esteem. But there ain't nothing wrong with loving the way you look already and just wanting to add a little something. As long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone, you do you 😊

    I totally understand the fear of being bad person. I struggled with that a lot these past couple of months. Something that really helps me is letting those thoughts come and not fighting them. Before, I used to fight with those thoughts and try to prove to myself I was a good person. The funny thing about my anxiety is that trying to out smart it always made it worse. Now I just let my thoughts come and go and try to be in the moment. I have been writing poetry and that helps too. As long as you are patient with yourself anything is possible. I know that no one cares about what I have to say lol sorry but I guess I just wanted to share my story, in case it helps someone else.

    Regarding self-esteem there is one thing that has worked for me, but it could maybe be seen as vain. For me, it's skincare. To do my skincare routine every night feels so refreshing and I always feel really good about myself. Instead of covering myself up with hiding beneath stuff and fixing things, I rather give myself and my body the proper care it deserves. I have also always been very good at listening to my body and do exactly what I feel it needs at that given time. If it's staying at home doing the things I love most, I'll do that. If it's putting on a face of makeup and go outside to be social, I'll do that. It has helped my self-confidence immensely with just daring to be who I am, because my body will usually tell me what I need the most and that's the thing I will listen to. Not everyone else.

    I found this so strangely comforting. I think about my appearance all the time and almost dread going on instagram and seeing perfect models.How easily accessible it is to go online and on apps and constantly be bombarded with unrealistic standards of beauty makes us lose sight that there is so many more important things to value besides our appearance and how many likes we'll get on a picture.

  • @Toyon95
    @Toyon95 5 лет назад

    As someone with an appearance not of the norm- I've always struggled with this growing up. Just being accepting without judgement, is an ongoing practice. But it is hard when it feels like parts of the society rejects you because of your looks, and that it's totally OK for them to do that. In those cases it is very easy to fall into helplessness and hopelessness.

  • @BlackMetalRebellion

    I generally don't care if people like me or not. I'm a good person and all of my hobbies are positive and don't effect anyone else negatively. So if people think I'm an idiot or an asshole, then that's a them problem not a me problem.
    People who don't know me in real life love to cast shade based on some of the most ridiculous and shallowest things. They love to presume a whole tonne of false bullshit. I've learned to just pursue what makes me happy (people who don't like it be damned).
    Most are usually jealous of the spotlight you're getting and/or the things you're achieving and have to talk shit because of it. They live meaningless arbitrary lives so they feel the need to tear you down a peg in order to feel better about themselves. You do you girl.

    I’ve been having a rough couple of months and I know that a big reason for my depression is my low self esteem. Specifically in a social and professional way. I think that by having an analytical/logical way of thinking makes it a little worse because I over-analyze every little thing that happens and I give myself credible reasonings for things that are probably not even true. Thank you for posting this video, Sarah. Although I don’t like to see you struggling, in a way it is comforting to be reminded that you’re not the only one.

  • @galacticlullabyart

    Love this video so much! I love how you talk about how the concept of space & the Universe is comforting to you. I feel exactly the same way and I've never met or spoken to or come across anyone who feels the same. The fact that we exist and how small we are in comparison to what is out there is the reason I came out of a long-term depression. It was after my last overdose, and I woke up the next day and was just wondering what life even is, like why are we all so worried if we are worth anything to the universe or to the world? We can be worth so much to certain people/animals and be good people, but in the whole spectrum of things, sometimes realising insignificance is a thing to embrace feels so freeing compared to fearing if we are worthless and if life is pointless. I saw a quote that said "The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

    You are awesome in that you are so into self exploration. It's of supreme importance. Radical self-acceptance is the beginning of it all. You hit the nail on the head, Sarah. after dealing with self esteem issues for many years as a kid, I feel kinda "woke" about how I perceive my body at the age of 23. hearing people in their 30s still struggling to not care about wrinkles or other stuff sounds a bit weird because I feel like I managed to do that at 23 and I'm not that good in general. I reasoned with myself and I am coming to the conclusion that I achieved some things that older people cannot, and I feel a bit stronger and more mature, empowered.

    Thank you for making this video, Sarah. I’m in my mid twenties, and I have been feeling so bad for years for growing older and still not “getting over” my self esteem issues (I thought once I was in my 20’s I’d suddenly be collected and self assured).
    Also maybe this is strange but I think you’d make an amazing teacher.

    That's an interesting perspective and I find vastness comforting too, I usually fall asleep while dreaming of floating into space.
    You are a beautiful girl, make up or not, and you seem like a nice person too.
    Unfortunately being "ugly" is not subjective, or unimportant or whatever, nor is something you can overcome as easy. When people stare and giggle, is not something you can really ignore. What's even worse, is that sometimes you create (mostly unintentionally) bad coping mechanisms, which are not helping you become a better person either.
    I'm not ungrateful for the rest of what I've been given, but I can't stop thinking that I don't deserve it and most of all, that I am a waste of energy and that I'm taking up someone else's "spot" and that's a feeling I can't shake.
    I hope you'll overcome your fears and insecurities, have a great day.

    I totally agree it does have to do with age. It took me into my 30’s to finally be ok with who I am/what I look like. Now at almost 38 I’m really ok with me!
