Especially for females (who tend to have thinner facial skin), it can cause microtears, which can allow in bacteria and even cause scarring over time. Please please stop using these. If you need to remove sebum or blackheads from enlarged pores, use a gentle comedone extractor (with a thick, sturdy metal loop). Just rock it back and forth with some pressure - never pull it over the skin. I'd also suggest chemical exfoliants like Alpha Hydroxy acid and/or salicylic acid. They both have to have a pH between 3-4, so apply them at least 20 min before any other skincare products. (FYI: while you should wear sunscreen daily, regardless, if you're going to use AHAs, do the treatments at night, and wear sunscreen. As for salicylic acid, using it may require more moisturiser, as it can be a bit drying.) If you still need to exfoliate occasionally, choose a gentle microfiber cloth, or something similar - and a maximum of 2x per week. Peel-off masks and exfoliator scrubs with hard pieces in them are probably the worst (and most commonplace) skin "treatments." If you want your skin to stay healthy looking past 30, please consider other options!

Contrary to popular belief pores do not open and close at all. It is a myth but a warm face cloth or washing your face before hand will soften the skin an get rid of oil so that the pore mask will have an easier time penetrating your pores and sticking to your skin. And as one person said you need to peel upward. Most of the face mask videos on YT show people peeling upwards and most directions say to do so.
