It seems a little odd to NOT be able to refuel your own car. I work at the local Costco Gas Station and believe me when I say, most people are clueless as to proper safety. Probably would be a much safer place if I dispensed all the fuel. Also with the unbelievable amount of fuel that is spilled on the ground due to incompetence.....
It makes me so happy seeing you two out and about together again. That high top mod is pretty cool. I'm glad it hasn't had any big adverse effects on mileage, handling, etc. I've really been considering getting a 4x4 suburban for light overlanding. a van conversion would be awesome, too but that's out of the budget for the short term. Maybe in another year or two after I pay off my daily driver and can free up those funds.
the last time I checked in with this channel, you were alone with your dogs and a tiny camping trailer. looks like things have changed pretty significantly
totally recognized the rest stop at 4:15...Orovado Rest Stop....spent a few hours getting some sleep there before heading on to Rome to gas up and explore Owyhee Canyon area.....it's a pretty gross restroom lol
Install thermocouple on manifold directly below up pipe. Your egt seems high, at cruise I run 650 and 1K on hard uphill pull and wait till 300 to shut down. Also u need 4.10 gear at min w/ 35s. I use DP tuner, kc turbo upgrade and a 4" diamond eye exhaust system.
You're correct about pumping the gas in Oregon, but diesel is not illegal to pump your own fuel in Oregon. no matter what I am born in Oregon I live in Oregon. That is one great thing of having a diesel truck. Hi from Springfield Oregon.
While the convenience of a hightop cannot be ignored, there is nothing that looks better than a 4x4 van with a standard roof! Hands down way sexier anyday than a sprinter/transit/promaster.
Yep, I had a standard length E350 with a 410ci Windsor and Ford F-350 swapped 4wd. Even with 33” tires I BARELY fit through fast food drive-thrus and banks.

Yep, buying a Chevy van with the new 6.6 L . I’m afraid the van will be discontinued in the near future ? Getting mine now. I think the Euro vans stink
You can pump your own diesel in Oregon. I live in Cornelius and I do it myself everywhere except Fred Meyers. Several ARCO's around here make diesel owners pump there own fuil.
I'm running a 99 E350 with a 7.3. It's a High top box van dually 2wd. I use it as a mobile mechanic shop. It weighs 14klbs and I average around 8-10mpg if I keep my foot out of it.
Since getting my hightop I personally have lost a lot of weight because my van won't fit in McDonald's drive thru. My other 7.3 Sportsmobile had a Fiberine Cruiser top and it got about 10mpg and it had 3.55 gears but no performance mods just bone stock.
Hey there. I bought a 2007 dodge sprinter a few weeks back, it has a 3.0L diesel in it. At the Fred Meyer in Eugene they told me because it’s diesel I have the option of pumping my own fuel. I didn’t know 😲
Idling is also good for the turbo if you shut it off after driving the turbos will not get the oil it needs and you'll prematurely wear out the bearings
We always install egr probes at collector at end of manifold log. It’s a measurement of all the exhaust energy from all cylinders on that side. K.C. Turbos makes an awesome retrofit kit for the sxe turbo. Which is way more efficient and will lower egts and get a boost in power.
Where did you get your edge monitor? I can’t find one for the e350 7.3! It’s an 03, I contacted edge the say they don’t make anything for the e350. Thanks 🙏
From my 2002 - 7.3 stock motor as far as I know: below is the mpg I get with average flat highway conditions 55-60 mph = 19/20+ mpg average 60-65 mph = 16/18 mpg average 65-75 mph = 12/15 mpg average The odometer is at 360k and running strong.
I had a work truck with tool body diesel tools in body. I was lucky to get 16 miles to gallon with the 7.3. I have a 2007 chevy express 2500 it has the 4.8 just drove to Florida from Maryland then back. My Trans was slipping yet doing around 70 miles a hour I got 20 to 25 mile to gallon. I'm very happy with this van. I'm getting ready to work on the Trans this weekend. After I get the inside built I'm gonna work on making it 4x4. I been looking for a high top at the junk yard. Don't want a real high one.
In OrEgon, you CAN pump your own "gasoline" into a motorcycle or scooter (passed in 2002). Also, as Brando Davis mentioned in his comment, you CAN pump your own diesel fuel. So, if you WANT to wait for someone else to pump it, go ahead. But you are NOT required to allow someone else to pump your diesel. Fueling ("GAS") stations can be fined $500, per pumpage, if they allow someone to pump their own gasoline. THAT's why they get testy when people pump, or attempt to pump, their own gasoline.
I find that many attendants around Portland seem to place greater importance on the D-Bag in the G-Wagon than my service van that was there first. So my rule is if I wait longer than 3 minutes to get started with pumping or others who arrived after me get serviced first, I just start pumping gas myself. I get some weird looks from the staff, but no one seems to want confrontation. Some attendants actually think that a business-vehicle driver pumping their own gas is allowed at gas stations open to the public. It's only at card-lock stations, but their ignorance is to my advantage. 😎
One doesn't own a hightop 4x4 overland van with the best engine(7.3 TD) and really even talk about mpg or how it handles on the intertstate.... Lol. Very awesome platform here folks!
I have driven the Ford 7.3 diesel van a lot. Im surprised the EGTs were that high at highway speed not seemingly carrying any load just the top added. Am I missing something here ir did she put performance mods that are creating these high temps?
The big thing I noticed on my high top is that the cross winds will push you around more. But I don't notice until the crosswinds get up around 30mph. I'm in an RB e250 with the 4.8 and get 15mpg also.
I have no problems paying a little extra at the pump to have the ability to stand up to put my pants on, not to mention standing up in the van to cook on cold winter days. 👍🏻😎
I got fuel in Oregon one time on my way through. But I was in a reservation area at the time so I didn't have to wait for an attendant. I didn't even know that was a thing in Oregon
🇬🇧 Hi Jason, I don’t want to piss you off but I own a VW T5 van which I have done some work on it’s a 2.5 diesel with about 175 hp and I get 37 to the gallon at 70 mph, but as vans go it is not that large.
I wonder if they make a spoiler that will fit? At the minimum they have designs that reduce the dust you kick up around the vehicle which helps reduce the amount of dust getting in the cab & on the vehicle, and hopefully it can also help to improve mileage.
Not ALL gas stations in Oregon do you have to wait for an attendant to pump. Many remote places (like you were at) allow for the customers to pump gas. A law was passed a couple of years ago that allows this.
In addition, my gas station allows customers with motorcycles and "collectible/historic etc cars to pump their own fuel.. as I do with my 63 MGB. So Oregon resident, Wash state native. I really do not like waiting and I do care about attendants banging the nozzle against by vehicle and spilling fuel. Maddening.
The only exception for pumping fuel in Oregon is diesel, you can pump your own on that and a lot of places here in state are now self serve I have noticed, madras and Biggs junction for example.
I was told by a few gas station workers that I could pump diesel just not gas. I found this out by doing it completely forgetting and they told me it was ok.
You already caught yourself with the "gas" comment 😂 us diesel peeps call it fuel and you are allowed to pump it yourself in Oregon. (in case no one told you that aready lol!) Guess you'll just have to get a diesel now buddy👍

In Oregon you can pump your own Diesel fuel. You do not have to wait for an attendant. It's only gas fuel that requires an attendant.
I wish I had known that when I had a diesel! I wasted so much time waiting for attendants because I had dual tanks and often needed both filled.
