Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order: • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen...
The hype leading to the release of Jedi Survivor was through the roof. My friends and I couldn’t stop talking about it, there were advertisements everywhere, and it was clear to me that many were hopeful of the new release, but then it did. Top of the line gaming machines couldn’t run the game above 60 fps, and consoles were struggling to maintain 30 at times. Pair this with numerous crashes, a DRM that was so intrusive it had prevented players who bought the game from playing it, and we have the perfect storm capable of ravaging the games reception, and Respawns reputation.
I cannot understate the calamity that fell upon this game. Many critics outrighted begged their viewers to not purchase the game, Twitter was on fire with people airing their grievances, and it felt like it was impossible to go long without hearing of Jedi Survivors Tragic release. But why is it a tragedy? Well, if we look underneath the slideshows and shitty textures, we will see a game that is a perfect sequel. One that built off of everything its predecessor achieved. One that creates a satisfying story and contains heartfelt moments. One with tight and reliable gameplay. And one that will never see the light of day. Because like other abhorrent releases, the bad press around Survivors launch is a tumour that outweighs its host. Throughout this video we will look at all the ways Survivor is a good game, not as a means of defending the launch, that’s indefensible, but to show how clear it is, through every well made aspect of this game, that Star Wars Jedi Survivor… is a tragedy.
What is a good sequel? Previously I have defined it as a game that builds upon the gameplay, presentation, and story of its previous entry, expanding the world and what you can do in said world. I still use that definition as a guideline, but the reality is that what defines something as a good sequel is the experience, and aww man, was Star Wars Jedi Survivor an experience. A perfect sequel is not entirely about ticking boxes and improving every minute aspect of a game. Even if that’s part of the equation, the other half, the one I’ve often neglected, is the heuristic and subjective experiences that influence what a sequel must satisfy; notably, when I analyse a sequel, I have to ask, what expectations have been set?
Star Wars is a series with many good releases, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order being among them. Star Wars Jedi Survivor on the other hand, not so much. The Tragedy of Star Wars Jedi Survivor will be discussed and explained in this Star Wars Jedi Survivor review, Star Wars Jedi Surivor critique, and Star Wars Jedi Survivor analysis. This will build off of my Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order review and my Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order critique, and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Analysis. I will. assume you have seen my Jedi Survivor review, as it will be referenced within this Jedi Survivor critique, which is part of a larger Star Wars retrospective. This Star Wars analysis and Star Wars critique will include more games eventually. Within this potential retrospective, I will determine what the best Star Wars game is. This video will compare Jedi Fallen Order VS Jedi Survivor.

I saw your vid in my side feed. Too much of this game is badly designed that you can't blame EA for it, and I do not mean performance because I played it patched on PC and it ran smooth. The devs just made a bad game. There was already too much bad design in their first game with the time wasting traversal. The worst thing is we may not get another force-using game for many years. The Outlaw game looks like a TERRIBLE waste. Finally a Star Wars open world (possibly open galaxy) game, but it is a limited little bitch. The really old 1st person Jedi Outcast is still the best SW action game so this franchise has been very mismanaged even before Disney.

36:00 Funny story. So on Koboh, sometimes you DO get a Rancor roaming around instead of a regular patrol. And in NG+, if you activate the Warrior perk, they let Spawn of Oggdo out his hole to go for a walk. As far as I'm aware this only happens after you beat the game, but MAN did I get a heart attack on seeing Spawn of Oggdo going for a walk.

My favorite small detail from the game are the force echoes post main story. You can't just swing it whenever an enemy isn't actively attacking. You have to get a little bit of distance from them, too. Then, its hits can do a great job of stunning enemies off of attacking (large ones excluded). The extra heavy hits (skill upgrade reguired) can even stun "bear" enemies such as charging Rayvis, stopping their attack sequences so you get time to not die in punishment. (Concerning Rayvis, that move let me beat him on Grandmaster almost right after I realized it worked, and I clutched a fourth of the fight while out of stims).

The real trick to Rayvis is to forgoe difficulty challenges, but my brother demanded I restore our family honor by not dropping to Master. An hour or two well spent...

Personally I would be interested in seeing Quinlan Vos show up in a sequel if we ever get one. His story paralells Cals in some uncanny ways(unorthodox jedi with the supposedly rare power of psychometry, dating a nightsister, nearly turned to the dark side, affiliated with the hidden path), and id love to see the respawn team take advantage of the storytelling potential there.

For me, I don’t need a sequel to change the gameplay drastically if the first game worked perfectly. That’s why it didn’t bother me that Spider-Man 2 was so similar.
But this game is one of the best examples I can think of of improving gameplay for a sequel.

I played on ps5 and know that the pc port was real bad but for the main game I had zero issues, I did have a game breaking bug for side content though. I had the bounty Hunter bug where the sequence broke and after the 10th bounty I couldn’t do any more. They did eventually fix this and I went back and got the platinum.
This was one of my favorite games I’ve played in a long time and I couldn’t put it down. It also revitalized my interest in star wars and now I’m working though the newest Lego Star Wars, the mandalorian, and soon the other Star Wars shows. I really loved everything about this game

I didn’t play Jedi survivor at launch but bought it months later, but still absolutely loved playing it the first few times and collecting everything but have a few issues with the story:
    - you didn’t get much time with Cal’s crew since they meant a lot to him I didn’t feel the connection to the characters
-combat was better but shame you can’t block mid move
    - story felt too short on what it could’ve been
-exploring planets felt very limited with only 5 planets, but nothing to do on Tanalorr even though it was the whole point of the game
-Dagen and Ravis’s story felt like a side quest and they didn’t try to make it better
-lightsaber customisation was good not great
But my hopes for Jedi 3 is more planets to explore, longer story, more lightsaber customisation and please please PLEASE give us a Darksaber crystal
and maybe a system where you make choices which determines a certain ending

I was lucky enough to run it well enough on sub-par hardware that I was just happy it was playable and didn't care for lack of framerate, and mods to tweak performance were enough help. It is tragic others were not so lucky, and I hope they can later enjoy this masterpiece if they dropped it.

    • @aaronjones5742
      @aaronjones5742 Месяц назад

You did get relatively lucky but you can’t rate games based on the fact that you can use mods to make it good. Console players can’t use mods and they make up the majority of gamers. So if it runs bad on console and PC then the game is in rough shape. Obviously devs can really improve on games if they try. Imo you should base a game off of the first week of the launch. It’s not a very accurate depiction of the game if you recommend mods that actually make the game playable while reviewing a game.

What happened to this game is a travesty. I was pumped to play it having finished Jedi Fallen Order just a few months prior. I had it pre-ordered and I picked it up day one. However before opening the game, I saw the reception online and to my dismay it was not pretty. Yet another game falls victim to corporate greed where it's rush out the door for short term profits. I am utterly fed up with this; I refused to support a broken launch and was not about to waste my time and money playing an inferior version of a game that I was excited for. We deserved better, the game deserved better. Thus, I returned the game immediately, got my $75 back, and I said I'll play it when it's fixed. Fast forward six months later and I pick it up on Black Friday for half off. I played it and enjoyed the hell out of it now that it was fixed like it should've been at launch. In the end, they just lost a full price sale on launch day and tarnished the game's perception forever. Despite how good this game is, everyone's gonna remember its rocky start and that's a damn shame. I feel sorry for Respawn.

Something I think would've benefitted the cross guard stance especially, would be the added ability of being able to hit through someone's guard. For example, if an enemy has a low enough guard to the point that your next attack will break through it, a small portion of the damage that would've gone through if it were a regular un-guarded attack will go through the block upon breaking it.
To put it simply: Make it so that break through block does a small percentage of damage to add more viability to the cross guard, in a similar vain to how you can attack cancel when using the dual wield.

When I first played this game, I played it on grandmaster difficulty and beat the 2 rancor in the force tear, and same with both of the oggos. While crossgaurd is slow you learn with that stance its all about timing but what I did was mastered 2 stances on that difficulty crossguard and blaster stances if you learn to use those in tandem with each other and master both of them you're a force to be reckoned with. So what I did was start out with blaster stance, then I would finish both enemies with crossguard stance. Having range is huge when it comes to fighting those enemies in the beginning of the force tear battle, especially on grandmaster difficulty

I loved the crossguard stance on Jedi Grandmaster, but that's because in Souls games I always opt for Strength builds and tend to gravitate toward the largest, slowest weapons I can find. As soon as I unlocked crossguard I just felt at home.

I really like this game, but dying to bosses because I get locked into a stance for using a stim, R1-force abilities will cancel out into whatever Force move is equipped (the triangle button), the camera sliding into a wall in the middle of fighting mobs, and the game not always registering when I'm against a climbable or runnable wall.

At most I got like 2 crashes, some textures taking awhile to load, getting stuck inside or outside Pyloon's Saloon because the doors just wouldn't open, and some frame rate drops. But thankfully, these weren't very common and I even found some of them funny. Like in the middle of an important and heartfelt speech the game would just crash, or enemies would just phase through walls in a t-pose. The best one was when a Purge Trooper just slid across the floor in a T-Pose, and when the Dual Lightsaber stance for some reason had both the lightsabers connected. So I was holding a double bladed lightsaber, during the dual wield stance, meaning Cal just flailed his other arm around while I attacked.

  • @krpi7685
    @krpi7685 11 месяцев назад +1

I found the crossguard to be viable especially during the more difficult boss fights but mainly thanks to the game's insistence on having the player wait out the enemies' attacks. While some stances offer opportunities to be more active, I found it most consistent to just wait out the boss attacks, get two powerful swings in, repeat. The good damage evened things up enough. Then I got plain lazy and didn't even bother to switch for crowd control and instead spammed force powers a bit more. Kinda worked.
I do admit it kind of flattened the experience of fighting the bigger enemies and the stance would've definitely benefited from being able to absorb ANY hits as you wind up so it's difficult to really recommend. If you're like me and just happen to like the idea of wanting to learn the slow methodical way of playing then go for it.

  • @pixel6894

The first game actually let you switch stances during an attack and had transition attacks. It’s pretty late in the skill tree but it does exist there. For all I know it could be in survivor too but I haven’t made it far enough in the game to know that.

I had SOOO many emotions during the Vader fight, sadness, anger, glee but mainly sadness (the ending tore me up inside) I cried so hard! overall 10/10 for that fight. I am also glad they fixed the graphics issues for this game. During my play time I hardly ever fell under 60 fps, there were only a handful of times my fps feel below 60. For a while I also had a weird glitch where my game kept crashing in the main camp (where the cantina is) specifically around the Jawa building. I never did figure out why my game kept crashing but after a while that issue went away
