Love it. Thanks. My best fishing trick is to keep the line in the water as long as possible. Same with hunting; you have to be out there first. Keep it simple and basic.
That is pretty much a mirror of my experience. Probably my mid 20's is when the "Scent Control" craze started. I tried it. Didn't matter much. Now I have never been one to wear cologne and I have always used unscented deodorant. I don't bother with anything different in my laundry. I might be 2 weeks straight on an Elk Hunt. You ain't gonna stay scent free there. Most of my deer over the years I have killed after getting off of work in the same clothes I wore all day. Spot on about people giving mythic wisdom to deer. Say a mature buck at least 5 years old. He has 5 years of education. Now think about how little a 5 year old kid knows. The kid is way smarter than a mature deer. Deer are just using their senses to try their best to avoid danger. It is that simple. Everything is trying to make a meal of them. Can you sour an area? Yep but, you lay off of it and they will regain confidence in it in a couple of days. All of these Gurus are just trying to sell you something. Just give me a longbow and a flyrod. While these "Experts" are debating about when and how to hunt...I will just be out filling my freezer. If the deer and hogs don't cooperate I will just catch fish.
Yep , 8 - 9 months of the year deer are smelling gas , oil , nacho cheese Doritos , cigars , catfish bait , people were noisy and roaming around carefree then suddenly everything goes quiet , the smells change and some artificial doe in estrus scent fills the air among other scents ! The deer are like huh , what's this , ain't never smelled a doe like that , something wrong here ! Alarm bells !! I want the grass seed planted on side of the road , seems they're always there , next to a highway with cars zooming past at 70mph , staring at you like ...sucker !
The scent control product craz is hectic. Playing wind is always my first choice; if I had 1 choice of product-Ellimishield. I've been use their line up 4 the past 3yrs. Deer nose are very sensitive but coyotes. I've had coyotes walk up to me or 5ft behind me, in my scent cone, not knowing I'm there; until it's too late. I believe in their product.
Only way to control scent is by playing the wind imo. I still wash in scent free detergent and hang them outside to dry to try and help but still comes down to wind.

These days everyone wants to be internet famous, you can drive yourself crazy trying to be perfect, every deer harvested is a trophy
