This is pretty much how we danced in Chicago late '50s and early '60s. Most of the good dancers got to know each other's moves and usually, we were given a little extra room to showcase our talent. Good memories.
I only watch WCS events before 2000. They had the correct music for the dance. I don't know what they are playing now? It sounds like music for ballet.
I only go back to these years when WCS was WCS. They played the right music for the dance. I just watched the 2024 The Open. It's pathetic. It might as well be ballet. The music sucks. I've given up on going to any WCS dances, because they have ruined the true essence of the dance. Carolina Shag has never waivered from the true music that makes the dance. The new generation has ruined WCS. If I want to watch WCS I go back to before 2000.
@Jazzy For a while I thought I was reading my own comment - so I checked the name - OMG! your spot on! I would say there was decent music up to about 2008 or so 2009 at least up in the Seattle area but after 2012 it went to shit as it is mostly so today
@@jazzye6493 I have asked many people over the years their sentiments re the mix - 90% of the time I have had agreement that they are disappointed - they want the more energetic/aggressive music with guts and groove - THAT is what a "street dance" like WCS is all about - not kindergarten patty-cake. The people who set themselves up as DJs play whatever they personally like - and/or whatever they think is popular in order to get a gig - those are the only explanation I can come up with.... I would love to set up my own dance - not charge anything for it - with guaranteed two Jonny Lang songs in every set...😀😀
@@greglogan7706 You should start your own dance with that energetic/aggresive R&B music. I used to drive from Vancouver BC to Seattle every Thursday for Terry West dances. I used to go to The Seattle Easter Swing every year. The last year I attended none of the music made me feel like dancing. It started to get HO HUM boring. And that must have been in the early 2000's. I'm so happy to find someone who agrees with me. All I've been getting is rude comments back when I express my opinion. I'm surprised Robert Royston who is still an MC doesn't protest more. He's an old schooler that danced to the great music back in the day.

It does not get more perfect than these two dancing. God Bless
So true! 🙂
2024..who else comes back to this video now and then??

So I know nobody here is going to know what I'm talking about, but this song sounds like it could be from Bleach.

@@greglogan7706 Finally someone agrees with me. WCS is ruined for me now. I can't even watch the modern artsy fartsy stuff. Rediculous.
