It's interesting seeing how this record is being received amongst the predomently FT fans vs the PL fans. I love FT but have always held PL as one of my favourite records of the 2010s. For me, Soft Hell is outstanding back to front. Song writing, production, performances, sonic and harmonic pallete. It just works so well for me. And the reactions I'm seeing sort of seem to fall into the "it's really working for me" or "it's not doing much for me" camp. I haven't seen anyone questioning the production, performances or songwriting... I guess that's personal taste, isn't it :) ?
Oh *hell yes*, Lucid Planet II! That was such a good album, and everything I would have expected Fear Inoculum to be. This one, though? Definitely a skip - it was already obvious from the singles, and heck, the only song I remember from it is the last one (My Dearest Kate) because it was so different from the rest 🤷
Some moments of this album are extremely pop, reminding me of Charli XCX and Carly Rae Jepsen lol But yeah I think it's not a good/consistent as Pink Lemonade, but still definitely enjoyable
Agreed! Some of the pop elements just don't sit right with me, and it's not as creative as Pink Lemonade or as consistent as First Temple, but it's still a whole bunch of fun!
nice analysis though sounded too naive about "Fine", which has: - catch as hell groove in the verse, very proggy on the tempos, seems simple but is complex - a pre-chorus insane double guitar work preceding an overwhelming crescendo vocal work on the chorus, which is an extremely off-guard and original chorus which doesn't sound as a chorus really, gladly disorienting the listener
trust me bro it's more than just fine, let it grow on you, because it will. forgot to mention the THREE (yes, 3) awesome guitar solos throughout the song, being the 2nd overwhelmingly distinct in ambiency from the 1st and 3rd, seriously, you can't underestimate this. @@RhymeSignatures

From a technical perspective it's basically faultless, but like you say, the songwriting side comes down to personal preferences!
I like what I’ve heard so far!!!
It's a fun record! I just wish the lower points hit me as hard as the higher points!!
Easily the best album of 2023 for me

I am very much looking forward to Lucid Planet giving us more material!!

I mean you can break it all down for me and call me naive all you want, I still felt the song was just "fine" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
