    Higher N after leaf set in Spring. Balanced NPK during summer, easing off in mid summer as they enter semi dormancy. Then a boost of P,K biased fertiliser in Autumn to help the plant strengthen it’s cell walls for the winter! Anything more complex and my head hurts!

    That is a great summary. I have been talking about the same things when it comes to plants in ponds. Adding nitrogen to reduce phosphate buildup resulted in less flowering. I agree that it does not matter that much in bonsai. Our trees take what they need from what is awailable and the rest is flushed out via the drainage holes. Some over intake are always happening if one nutrient is abundant. liebig's barrel is an easy way to explain it.

    One of the better Bonsai fertilizer videos. Your breakdown was direct, simple, and very much on point. New and old bonsai enthusiasts should have a better understanding on not just the brand or usages of it, but a better understanding of what the fertilizer they are considering or currently using. In the end you get a healthier Bonsai. Looking forward to the subsequent fertilizer video you mention. Also, like the graphics/drawings you utilized.

    Love the practical advice you share

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai Год назад

      I think it is the combination of the water/oxygen/fertilizer triangle and the right position for the tree. My trees never dry out to wilting point, and are fertilized throughout the growing season. The substrate is very coarse so in summer there are days that I have to switch on a mister if I am away from home for the day, to ensure midday-water.

      @Growing Bonsai by Jelle I bought miracle grow powder. Like Nigel uses. I got it from Walmart for about $35. I use it sparingly as the price has gone up since i purchased it. I can get fertilizer sticks from the dollar stores for about $5 a package, they are garbage hahaha. Pretty much everything from the garden centers is more than I can afford. There was nothing in any garden centers under $60, even the same fertilizer i got from Walmart was double the price there. I will have to save up and order off the internet maybe. I'll get it figured out. My trees seem to do just fine without all that stuff. I'm still using soils with organics in it as I'm not home all day to water. They dry out really fast inside the house.
