Lots of great tips. I could never figure out why the paint was so much darker from the swatch. Putting the white paper is going to be very helpful!

Great ideas - I would always suggest you tidy your dining room first, then you’ll move any junk out of the room. The dining room is the one room I would use wall paper in, William Morris is a fabulous designer for wall paper for the dining room. Always get a real fire if you can for the dining room, burning log fire is amazing in a dining room. Candelabras are amazing for a dining room, the one room I’d light with majority candle light. I’m in the UK and I would always go for east facing room so you don’t get the evening light that can blind you dinner guests. BUT most important of all - use the room and use it as much as possible - learn to cook and have friends round regularly and fully utilise this great room.

I'm going Navy blue, we just began a renovation. After 32 years in our home. I can't replace everything. And I've had my old time for over 38 years sentimental. But when I look at other ones look so cheap. So my stain our dinette grey or refinish it. Getting living room furniture, and family room, so can't go hog wild...... have done kitchen cupboards, counter, doing wood floors. So we are on a tight budget. Your home is lovely. Plus I just don't want to get something to get something cheep....smile

My dining room is painted just how I want it! Unfortunately it’s small and I have to have a china cabinet because my kitchen just doesn’t have enough cupboard space and it isn’t eat in. So it’s used daily. I don’t do place settings or fancy large centerpieces because they just get in the way. I’m very happy with my window treatments and the table is ok. Thanks for the tips! A new chandelier is on my wish list and sconces on each side of the china cabinet. The floor is hardwood. A new area rug is on my list too.

Thank you for sharing your expert tips! I just learnt a new furniture piece "hutch". Since looking for furniture for our new home, I've also learnt "console" and side/ buffet table :D A lil fancy for a city girl who used to live in a two bed flat who couldnt even fit a dining table more or less a Consol one :)) As for good lighting, I also try to tell my husband, its a must have for us ladies! Especially at our dresser:*

I am so delighted to find your site and videos! I am just starting a complete family room makeover and I have made my major purchase of a Pearson white 10 x 10 sectional at the Hickory Furniture Market! It will be delivered next week. In the mean time we are moving out our furniture, having our hardwoods cleaned and buffed. I was trying to decide for sure if I wanted to go more traditional in design but since looking at your videos I think I am leaning toward the modern farmhouse. My walls are palladium blue. My fireplace is white and I am thinking of painting the mantel black to coordinate with two large Lane cabinets, one a Armoire and one a t.v. Console. Then a lovely rug with some black in pattern and in pillows maybe. Also maybe on black lampshade in the room! My favorite days are Decorating Days too. My window treatments are beautiful solid white silk floor length from Restoration Hardware, but I like journey idea of one on each window to frame the room. Can not wait to see the rest of your videos. My sister is chalk painting my oak kitchen cabinets and they should be complete next week! We live on a beautiful little golf course at Lake James and it is beautiful here in the spring! Come pay us a visit!

So glad I found your channel! We recently moved from Illinois to the Texas Hill Country. I’m incorporating ranch style to my eclectic mix.....with the “less is more” thought. Your thoughts on ranch style, please? I agree with your thought on dining room hutches. I have restyled them by breaking up the hutch from the base, using the hutch on a console table in another room (they make great display case in living area or jewelry/accessory pieces in bedrooms). You have a beautiful store!

I love the ranch style! I think with any style incorporating different elements and not making any particular style "cliche" is key. I hope that makes sense. :)

Joyce, you don't have to strip the furniture if you paint using chalk paint! That is the beauty of that product. Good luck.

Tht was inspiring! I realize I haven't wanted to decorate my house at all because of criticism. I have a painting by my mother and two by the Great aunt she was named for. I get criticism for them being 'too dark'. I kind of gave up because of it. I think I will go with what I love if no one wants to contribute positive ideas.
It is YOUR home, you should decorate it in ways that make YOU happy no matter what others say. :)

Hi I love your videos . I learn something every time. And I appreciate you telling us where you source items as it makes it easier to just click on the link. I have a question. I have a 12 x12 dining area to the right of the entry way that is adjoined with my big 20:x17 formal living room. What shape of dining table is best and what size? I current,y have a solid oak cut glass hutch and table for 6 . It’s seems a bit big for the space. Should I go square?
I dont like over decorating, but my room looks off!!! The formal dining has driven me crazy for over a year & I cant get it right. 🙍♀️🤦♀️
It is smaller room so I have 3 long mirrors on one side & a large chalkboard flanked with sconces on the other side. My table is distressed white that just has a simple burlap runner with a centerpiece.

I've noticed that most of the drapes or rods are not to scale for the rooms? They're lovely prints, but Something about them is off. I've watched a few of the videos and continue to notice it. IMO 🤔 No doubt your work is lovely & you're very talented 👍🏻
HI Jennifer. Really enjoyed this video. My dining room is pretty formal. I have regretted not getting a sideboard instead of a china cabinet. Although the cabinet is gorgeous it takes to much room. I really would like to sell it, but not sure if someone would want a cabinet without me selling my table. Plus I paid so much for it, I don't know if anyone be willing to pay me what I want. is Anyway great tips. Take care and have a blessed week.

Hi Jennifer, I have another question when it you mentioned "buffet lamps" Is it a common thing in decor to have such big sized lamps or can I go with a smaller lamp on both sides??? Or is it just preference?
You can go with smaller lamps, just make sure they aren't too small for your buffet and look dwarfed. Good luck!

I usually enjoy decorating but just stumped on what to do in my dining room. The paint is light beige, small china cabinet is kinda a cherry/ darker finish. That's the only piece that will stay put. With the buffet being in the room kinda throws off centering a table under the light fixture. So, I've decided to remove it. The zebra rug will go too.
I'd like a small round maybe pedestal style table with only a few low back chairs. I like stone and other materials on table tops also. I can't deal with glass though. We don't actually use this room that often. So not interested in breaking the bank, lol. My room is open and I'd like a very casual sophisticated style.
I like country French styles and light coloring in those pieces and also love the Hampton style too with white, creams, and dark wood. I also like the weathered barn look on certain pieces in a home too.

Where have you been all my life?? I love you channel...ok so o have a question, would you recommend a round dinning table on the formal dining room. My dinning space is really small and right now we have a rectangle dining table. There’s barely any space to move around.

I found mine at a local fabric store. :)
Fabric stores or drapery stores usually carry decorative tape. :)
Hi Jennifer, I'm just wondering if your rule about a table runner applies to a round table as well. I have a beautiful 60" round table and when I try a runner on it, I don't love it....or maybe I'm just not used to the look!?
Well, have you tried a runner that is longer and lays off the side of the table? I like that. :)
Jennifer Decorates Yes, I have tried that, just wasn't sure if that was an acceptable use as I don't see it used in decorating videos. I'll give it another go & maybe the look will grow on me😊!

Jennifer, I just recently lost both of my parents as well and toted home a LOT of their things my siblings didn't want. I know that realistically I can't keep it all but how do you begin to know what to truly let go of? How did you do it? I have a lot of treasures that I'm finding hard to part with. Thanks.
Terry, I am sorry for your loss. It was hard to let go of so many of my mother's possessions, especially when I knew how much she treasured them. In the end, I kept a few art pieces, a wall clock, and several recipes. I kept a few other holiday decorations as well, but I only held on to the things that I would genuinely use, appreciate, and remind me of my mother. It's hard to know what to keep and even harder to say goodbye to the things they loved, but keep what you will use and appreciate most. Again, I am sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.

I have white wooden like blinds on all the windows in the house when I bought it. Would you leave those and put up curtains?
I would leave the blinds and add non-functioning drapery panels. Will make a world of difference!
If you like the blinds, yes leave them up and add drapes. Adds another layer of texture. I like it!
