The lab rat’s a great name, you ought to trademark that! And have to say I’m impressed (8:33) that at this age you’re still shotgunning your beer outta the can! 🍻
The lab rat would be a lovely take on the muskrat pattern! And any knife with a cap lifter is good in my book. Similarly, a take apart hobo knife on the muskrat frame would be interesting. Great video Tobias
The bird hook on a RR muskrat frame would be pretty cool. And I do like that carnivore jack, but never got my hands on one. Considering picking up the newer version with the cigar frame, but haven't made up my mind yet. Cheers, buddy!
I love the old timer Muskrat I was a trapper in Ohio from age 9 to 17 an wore the blades off 3 or 4 skinning Muskrat, Racoon,Fox, Mink among other things . Worked on farms and trapped was my only way to make money until I graduated at 17 in 1982. Great life love being in the woods. Good luck
This is a pattern I’ve recently come to enjoy. I had to return my RR hawbaker special because it was a lemon. It was from Chicago knife works, so they told me to send it back, instead of SMKW just sending you another one. But I recently scored a vintage Kabar muskrat, 1063 that has a Turkish clip and a regular stockman clip point. That Camillus trapper with that cap lifter/pen knife is really cool. Never seen that before. The handles look just like the Remington R12 trapper they made . Love the moose rat pattern you’re suggesting, the moose being my fav pattern. Really cool video, thanks for sharing.
Speaking of muskrat love.... that sheepsfoot/wharnie blade is sweet. I do agree a birdhook on a rough rider would be nice. I am a huge fan of wharncliffes if done properly, like on those muskrats. Most modern folders don't make proper use of it in my opinion.
I have the Carnivore Jack and really like it! I would really like to see more frequent Hawbaker special options from Rough Ryder. I am in general a fan of swapping out one of the blades on a Muskrat.
I looked at the Muskrat several times but just didn't want a knife with two blades the same, had there was different options with blades I would be tempted like the size and shape of the frame. 😁
Hi Tobias: I’ve never really cared for the Muskrat pattern. Since I don’t hunt, I have no need or desire for two identical blades. The variations are better. I have the Carnivore Jack and quite like it. Thanks for the video. 👍
Mr Gibson, i believe that there is Hawbaker Knife in the Blujeans Micarta Series!!! But, inmight be wrong!! I know it a Muskrat and i believe its a sheep's foot!!! I would never try to match wits with you on Knife History!!! LOL Why cause your the man!!! 🔥🗡️💯👍🔪🗡️😲
I hate to ask an asinine question, but for some reason I like jack knives, and have trouble liking knives like canoes and muskrats with one blade on each side. Why do you like the muskrat over the trapper? I like the inverse
According to many sources, the Muskrat is an opposite-end jack knife. But now I'm being a bit of a jerk. I like all sorts of knives. When it comes to quantity with in my collection, I probably all more standard trappers (4 1/8 in frame. clip and spay) than I do standard Muskrats (4 inch serpentine frame, 2 muskrat blades). I probably like the Muskrat more than the Trapper because the muskrat was actually used by trappers a hundred plus years ago whereas the Trapper legend was created by Case sometime around WWII to increase knife sales. And when the marketing worked, they and other companies started calling every jack knife made in America some type of Trapper. Rough Rider even came out with a "Trapper Jack!" But at the end of the day I prefer the Large Toothpick and camp knives. Still a Trapper knife with a spatula blade instead of the spay blade would be pretty cool. I think the spatula would spread butter better than the spay. And the wider handle would allow for a wider spatula than you get on a Doctor's knife. Now you got me thinking.
I wish Rough Ryder would get rid of the matchstrike nail nick for a plain one. Their knives would look better, and they'd save $.04 per knife. Great outro music.
I don’t like trappers and I’m not crazy about muskrats because I want a knife, if it’s got two blades, to have two Different size blades. Excellent video Sir
in favor. the muskrat is a little boring... they could attach a fishing pole to it... or a car jack... but in all seriousness, the creative possibilities are endless!

I hope you haven't stopped.
Fun visit and information as always. Putting them all together is an interesting way to view them. Thanks Tobias.
The brew rat 2, Lab rat 2 look great with that Wharncliffe. Thanks for the video, Tobias.
Excellent ideas. I love the lab rat especially.
Thanks for the show - and the interesting thoughts!
Fun informative video. Really enjoyed seeing all of the different pieces. Have a great and blessed day!
A cap lifter is an introvert's best friend at just about any gathering . "Anyone got a bottle opener?"
A great conversation starter!
Pocket Knife collecting is such an interesting hobby. Love it.
Pocket Knife collecting is such a $spending hobby. Love it nevertheless 😊

I like the Lab Rat idea, would be awesome.
Lab rat. love it!
I thought you were gonna say Spiderman then said Spyderco LOL
The Spydie serrations were caused by a radioactive spider biting the cutting edge of an early Spyderco Dragonfly Clipit. LOL

I am agree with you. I think knife companies should as many variety of blade combos as they have variety in scales and bolsters.

Interesting video, that’s a pattern you don’t see very often nowadays

Every time I use mine I think of the song.
Nibblin on bacon, chewin on cheese..

Thanks. I will go check that out.
You are correct! RR2356. I'll need to find one. They call it an Improved Muskrat.

How does Tobias know about Shotgunning A Can Of Beer?
I don’t like trappers and I’m not crazy about muskrats because I want a knife, if it’s got two blades, to have two Different size blades. Excellent video Sir
Perhaps SMKW could strike a deal with Helle And have a bush craft/skinning slip joint? Of course we would call this the “Norway Rat” ….🤓
You should be teaching a class at your university. I'll enroll.

I would rather have a horse with no name.
