Thank you so much! This really helped me figure out if I can put an oem receiver on my truck that didn't come with the tow package

Working on the same thing with my 2016 tacoma as well it has never been exposed to salt water. The only salt it has seen was from the roads in there winter here in PA. I suspect the paint and anti rust wasn't applied correctly at the factory as it only affects the rear hitch/frame assembly b

    Thanks
    I really needed this
I'm going to replace my 3rd party hitch with a OEM hitch because I bought a steel bumper that uses holes that OEM have that the 3rd party hitch doesn't have.
    Question

How much torque is needed to tighten down the hitch?

Glad it helped! I didn’t use a torque wrench. Just used my breaker bar and made sure the bolts were really snug. Don’t push it too far and snap off your bolts!

If you do the OEM hitch and you do not have the tow package, don't forget you need two brackets to the frame additionally. I just put on a OEM hitch tonight, I didn't have the tow package, and needed those and the 8 bolts the brackets need.
