One of the most thoroughly genuine horses that's ever stepped onto a racetrack anywhere, IMO. There was never any pre-race issues or having to guess what kind of race you were gonna get from Giant's Causeway, and his career record of 13-9-4-0 speaks to that being the truth. If Giant's Causeway had his head in front inside the final 200 meters forget it, you simply weren't gonna pass this horse. Once he made the lead the only way you were gonna beat Giant's Causeway was if you were standing in the winner's circle with a hammer, and then that probably wouldn't have even made a dent in the "iron horse."
Giants causeway, you will never see a bigger heart in a horse. It must be an amazing buzz to be on a top class horse, and being a jockey who has empathy to connect with the horse, and to feel the energy of the horse under stress, and you the jockey are keeping it going and no matter what you get over that line first. There is an enormous connection between horses and humans, just like dogs and humans. Giants causeway will always be my fav horse, just a shame he did not get there in usa, just failed, due to dodgy americans. The connection between a top jockey and such horses must be amazing, they both drive for that line keeping each other going, and this race showed that in spades with giants causeway. The iron horse, such a great name for that horse as you see here, just never gave in.
RIP ya legend of an animal. I worked with him I mocked he out ..he was my favourite..the iron horse a horse with an iron will .the will to win ...the steam train ..never forgotten ya superstar
I cannot think of a horse in history that could out battle the Iron Horse. When you analyse this race and the quality of the field (on a future form index probably the best race of the season), you then realise what an astonishing perfermance Giants Causeway did in winning here. Both he and Kalanisi pulled clear of the rest and the second was one of the toughest horses in training (looked at how he out battled Monteau in the Chanpion Stakes and later won the Breeders Cup). The added bonus of Giants Causeway was becuase he didn't win by much, he was always a backable price.
