- Its time to harvest peanuts in central NC zone 7 π₯π₯π₯ The farmers starting turning over the fields this week and this is my sign to do the same. Peanuts are a super low maintenance summer groundcover and harvesting is just as easy! Learn more in this video.

Planted peanuts this year for the first time. Thanks for the tip!

You gave me the courage and I did well growing peanuts π₯ to my surprise π
The squirrels in our yard planted over 20 peanut plants.π€£
Thank you
Brie, I really enjoy your videos. I am just south of GSO, and have learned so much about growing in this soil and climate from you. I have grown a few peanuts in the past, and basically seed saved the harvest for two reasons; to increase my seeds for the next year and because I had no idea how to process the peanuts. Can you do a video on how your process them, either boil or roast? Myself I would prefer roasting. Can one eat them raw, without processing? What variety do you grow? Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely! I roast mine and will absolutely make a video showing how ππ₯
Do you plant the following varieties, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the ever popular Lucy? Again, good video!πππ₯

Well shoot, didn't realize they needed to dry out in the sun, and for a week at that. All the critters around my house won't let that happen....I shouldn't have gotten them hooked on peanuts. Oh well, it was a fun experience. It's funny, but until May of this year, I thought peanuts grew on trees..... I found out around May they were plants, and picked up a bag of raw peanuts from walmart. And they actually grew. Of course it took a few attempts because overnight something kept snagging the peanuts out of the little planters. So I set up a greenhouse, and every morning got up early to open it before the heat set in. Once they got established nothing messed with them. Have 9 plants set up in those fabric containers. Most look really good, though probably overcrowded them and should've had them one to a container. Also worth mentioning, I have a straight up brown thumb, nothing grows for me. Zucchinis, tomatoes? I got one itty bitty tomato, that's it and no zucchini. But I did smash half of the tomato and now have a few plants growing from that. So these peanuts actually growing is a big accomplishment for me lol. We'll see how my little harvest goes.
The coleus looks like burning bush! It's beautiful! Variety? Do I see a baby bump diva (my apologies if not, I'm excited if you are)? I have too much weight to loose but on my stomach it's due to loss of 2 babies & fibroids.
No baby bump. Just an unflattering dress.
Ok, so I came here to find out what season to plant and what season to harvest and only got one of those answers from this videoβ¦(plant peanut seeds it late spring )- but when do I harvest? π would you say mid autumn maybe?
I would wait to plant peanuts until June and harvest in mid October. that is the cycle that works best for me in central Nc.
What is the best way to clean and dry my peanuts to plant next year?
Put them in the sun to dry. I dry store mine for the winter in a shed.
at 60.00 for a 25 pound, my squirrels can plant better than me.
Hmm. That seems like an awful lot of work for a few dollars worth of peanuts. I think Iβll leave that to the farmers. Do you have to roast them after they dry?
Itβs not much at all. I grow them because they are such a low maintenance summer ground-cover to prevent weeds and fix nitrogen. Sometimes growing plants isnβt just about the harvest but the entire experience. Iβd rather grow peanuts than spray herbicide.
