I think "I've just been a witness to somethin sick and sadistic so twistedly disgusting you should feel real lucky you missed it" is my favorite flow in any rap ever
It’s called the lab rats - devils train the person who posted it is called dreams mask music video is hot, it must’ve been added recently. I hope this helps!
I know Brian, and that's how I found this song. He never told me about it, but his wife told me to watch it sometime. I think it is absolutely brilliant. These guys filmed and produced this by themselves. I cant ever get tired of it, it came up in my feed, and I immediately watched it. I may re-watch it tonight. It's a lot to digest, if you listen and follow the story, it's worth it.
Perhaps the devil’s train is something that only appears after death. Could be why the devil wondered what a ‘young dude’ was doing by the tracks. The lad could’ve died, overdosed or been hit by a train. The ‘birth of sadness’ could be the grief others feel after a loved one’s death.
@@invisibleghost3820 he died jumping out the window, bad trip say granddad an bailed out the nearest window, after that everything gets odd by orders of magnitude
Probably because Lab Rats were a somewhat obscure local rap group out of Columbus Ohio. I used to love watching these guys at "Comfest" every year. They'd have all those stoners bouncing at the off-ramp stage. I was bummed when they broke up (I assume). Haven't seen or heard from them for years.
A song is only going to become popular of millions of teenagers and young adults give it popularity. Nowadays this song isnt 'hip' enough to catch their interest.
This song is eerily relatable in a way. I used to hear train whistles every night, even though I live nowhere near a train. Even if I wasn’t at home, I would still hear the whistling of the train. Turns out, those we’re hallucinations. I’m on meds now for it, and I don’t hear them anymore. Just a little fun fact :3
@@OoglieWoogliee I don't hear it at morning, but when it's at midnight. It sounds like somebody, is trying to scare me like. There's ringing in my ear, and it does that nose from a horror movie
I hear train whistles and random melancholy piano songs as auditory hallucinations. The occasional scream as well. After telling my psychiatrist she said it was fine.
i love the grey scale color theme, along with the flashes of light and the glitchyness of the camera all these details just have a very pleasant touch to it i love it
Probably helps that they apparently recorded this on a $60 camcorder (one of the members of the band replied that they did on another comment here). So it's got a really found footage type of vibe.
I love how nobody realizes this song is based on hallucinations and potentially Schizophrenia. Sounds like the grandfather had an episode and wandered off, ended up getting hit by the train. And Schizophrenia is hereditary... so the grandson may have it as well, seeing visions of his grandpa, the devil, and the train.
I didn't think of it as schizophrenia. More like the grand father unknowingly made a deal with the devil near the train tracks, when he gets on the train he goes to hell or something, but he warns his daughter that his grandson might do the same thing as he did. Which the grandson did, he also made a deal with the devil. That's what I got from the song at least. It could be schizophrenia because he was being called to the train tracks.
And drugs?? That has absolutely NOTHING to do with it, right, Doctor? Thanks for your input, but, I'm gonna look elsewhere. Haha He's talking about his family's drug addictions. Read about it, or watch his interview about the song. Sheesh, what a long winded way to say you have no idea.
@@theronpeavey8854 woah calm the fuck down it was a theory not the end of the world jeez maybe they haven't seen the interview I sure haven't not everybody has
I'm a huge Gravity Falls fan and even I'm sick of seeing the words "Bill's Train" in the comments. Sure it brought me here but I'm here to enjoy the music.
I was at a wake yesterday and saw Brian whom I hadn’t seen since high school. We talked for a while and he was the most down to earth guy, just like in the late 90s . I had no idea he had formed this group. We were talking music and the lab rats came up in passing. I got home last night and listened . This is so freaking good! Brian was always the most talented kid when we were young and wow doesn’t this prove it. He’s still super chill and just doing his thing living a quiet life. I could have spoken with him for hours…
This song reminds me of when I lived at college. My dorm was right next to the tracks that cut through the campus and one night, really late (probably like 1am) I heard this really low, really melancholy train horn. i look out my window and there's a passenger train (this is normally a freight train track) with green glowing windows very slowly going by. A literal Devils Train lol. (I should probably mention it was October so this was likely a halloween thing)
i used to hear a train whistle coming from places where i shouldnt hear it. like 1 time when i was at high school, i heard it from behind a tall hedge, or something and i chased after the sound
@@MegaMegajennifer its a condition where you hear high pitch noises in your ear randomly. I thought that maybe the train whistling noise was maybe because of tinnitus. I could be wrong though
I love living near train tracks. It's eerie listening to this song, the clock hits midnight, you hear the loud train chucking down the woods becoming more distant.
the beat, the verses, the flow, the story, the video. perfect to the smallest detail. this immaculate little work of art has been blowing my mind for over a decade and it just keeps hittin. it’s a masterpiece so complete it makes you wonder if it might have cost a soul.
Lyrics [Verse 1] My grand-pops was a man of respect, had to sweat Just to cash checks working from sunrise to set Every day he'd get challenged, no trades or talents Barely scraped by, he found faith to balance The straight line and pace, feeling worn and gray Poor with four seeds, one more on the way It was hard days indeed, all work and no play He made sure things on the surface were okay, but Something disturbin' within his mind was lurkin' A slight twilight breeze would ease in through the curtains at night It's like the sermon of a twisted apparition Was urging him to listen to the train in the distance At first it wasn't intense, just one little instance Sure it didn't occur, he turned to resist it As if it wasn't much more than just a figment Of his imagination, but for days it was persistent And it went; "Follow me, follow me. Follow me, follow me" Then it got louder "Follow me, follow me. I have something to show you" [Verse 2] With time people noticed he was actin' berserk Granny got a call saying he was absent from work And that was a first She ran to the pastor at church To ask him what was up with this disastrous curse But bad went to worse He came back three days after No money in his wallet and his shirt on backwards Stumbling, walked awkward, he called out for his daughter Right before he split the last lesson he taught her was this; "If you ever have a son, let him know That his granddad loves him, but by the time that he's grown Be sure this seed is sown deep down into his dome; Don't ever, ever walk to the train tracks alone" With that, he backed up, reached out for his jacket Told her not to act up and cracked up laughin' After all that happened, he left, never to be seen Fifteen years later is when my mother had me Her dad lived a life people can't understand Went from a family man to rambling man A gambling man that burned both ends of the candle Folded his hand in, it was too hot to handle [Chorus] Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight? Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight? [Verse 3] When I was a tot, my mom dropped fables and stories To warn me of the dangers that were layin' before me To keep it interestin' she would hide the lesson To guide my direction, provide the right message In time I developed a sense of her embellishment Since I was rebellious against what she was tellin' me When I was a teen I pretended that my demons were friends I defended the place, yo, and that was the case Slurred speech drippin' off of my face The world creeped as I slipped to the awfulest place you could imagine Not the average things you see on acid My granddad bloody, hovering on a speaker cabinet Laughing in a raspy tone, covered in maggots That snacked on his mass to the bone, I couldn't grasp it Did a double dismount off of the couch, flipped out Broke the closest window I found, then I dipped out Suddenly, I discovered little voices mumbling up in my head It had me wondering what was it my mother said Back when I was younger, it had my brain wracked As I stumbled off in the night towards the train tracks [Chorus] Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight? Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight? [Verse 4] So there I was, stalking through the dark with a buzz I figured I should walk, that'll ease me off of these drugs It's like a shark, had to keep movin', it's that or be ruined; If I sat still I was doomed, and that wasn't doin' So I marched through the park slow, gone like Donnie Darko The sparkle of the starlight glowed like charcoal Despite my demeanor, the night seemed more serene Than a morphine fiend in a morgue, it seemed like I'd lost it That was when my grand-pops' carcass emerged from the dark Gurgling his words of carnage, but he couldn't talk Something about the birth of sadness I scurried off; I was on the verge of madness I raced, fast-paced, and the landscape was strange Like a plane parallel to this one but rearranged Came to a slope that was steep, beggin' for sleep As I climbed up, taking my focus off of the creeps Within the foggy distance, I saw a silhouette that got bigger as I stepped The train tracks were wet I saw a shiny grin from afar like it was happy This is what he said as he started to walk past me: "It's a nice night for a walk, would ya mind if I joined you?" "Do what you wanna do" "Well that's great, 'cause I'm going to And not to annoy you but, see, I really have to ask What a young dude like you's doin' out by the tracks? You waitin' on a train?" "Nah, man, let me explain" "Alright" "I'm mindin' my business so maybe you should do the same I just been a witness to something sick and sadistic So twistedly disgusting you should feel real lucky you missed it" "Ooh, but easy with the tongue, son, try to listen carefully What you've seen's scary, but nothing when compared to me I could show you things to paint all your dreams haunted I could make you scream if I wanted Or I can be the bee in your bonnet, your best friend forever Two peas in a pod flockin' like birds of a feather And you never have a need to beg, work, or steal If all this sounds worth it then let's make a deal All you want in life for price of your soul All the money you can fold, power that you can hold I'll put you in control Only if you're down to roll down these train tracks tonight" "But where we gonna go?" [Chorus] Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight? Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight?

I totally want to hear the story behind this song. How did they come up with it? Legends? Drugs? Dreams? It seems like it would be worth sitting down and listening to.
Sho Sekiguchi it’s the schizophrenia. There aren’t paranormal spirits involved. Took me a long time to get back to reality and figure it all out. They had me convinced I was a God or high ranking angel sent here to judge the earth and be the start of the end or the start of a new beginning. It’s all in your head, just like it was and is in mine.
Lotta interesting speculation about the meaning of the lyrics but seems like no one has pointed out the lines about gambling. The grandfather was a gambler by the end, turned up after disappearing with his wallet empty and shirt on backwards. The narrators mother told stories that were embellished to warn him “don’t go to the train tracks alone”, the “devil” offers “all the money you can fold”. The Devils Train is a casino, illegal and underground that operates somewhere along the train tracks. The grandfather knew it was out there and eventually was tempted enough to try to improve his fortune and lost himself, the narrator stumbles out there in a drug addled haze and falls victim to it as well.
I am generally sad that I can't find this on Spotify. I would so listen to this on loop. Such a good song Edit: oh wow Im surprised im still getting replies 2 years later. Let me clarify something. I don't mean episodes from podcasts uploaded by other people. Because most of the time these are uploaded without the original creator's permission and you can't save it to your own playlist.
Unfortunately, these guys have been broken up since '07. Had a lot of good memories at shows back then. Different times, when not all the same tools were available to artists like now.
THIRTEEN YEARS AGO?! Holy shit, for some reason it didn’t seem like a 2007 bop. To me it sounded like a new age (mid 2000s) rapper emulating old school rap (circa 1990s) because the whole thing just sounds so...unique? I can’t explain it. Shame that a lot of us found this late, I was fucking 7 when this vid released lol and now it’s 2020! And that this guy never really got big because this man can _spit_ . So much potential.
Yeah, especially for those of us in their scene who went to shows and watched them get "discovered" not once, but twice now, with no idea if either of them are profiting from it.
I'd love to make a movie out of this song. I can already picture so many good visuals. And since nobody knows the end of this song, the ending would be so unexpected
I looked up the group that made this song and I see that they haven’t been active since like 2007. I wonder what happened to these guys. I honestly wish they still made music, because this is such a cool song.
@@luciddreaming4478 There really isn't much to say; they simply disbanded in 2007 after the release of Half Full Ashtrays, Half Empty Glasses, most likely because they wanted to pursue different musical avenues.

I was introduced to the lab rats a couple years ago from a recommendation on sound cloud. I still believe this is an entertaining story told in song form. I don't consider it one of the greatest raps I've heard but it is enjoyable none the less. Even if Tik Tok is a cringe fest I'm glad it's giving some attention to devil's train.
I happen to have found this a few times from tiktok, and only now have I actually cared to check it out. I'm so glad I did. The people there suck and it is quite terrible 99% of the time, but god DAMN there are some bops there ^^
it’s been years since i’ve heard this song and today it just randomly appeared in my recommended again. this kind of music is something i completely forgot about but am now refalling in love with, it was a different time when this came out for sure
Discovered this song years ago. I love horror and dark themes, and addiction and other bad shit has rooted itself deep into my family tree. Lost my brother to it, metaphorically lost my father to it, losing my other brother to it as i type, not to mention my own vices. Also the shitty small town i live in has a train you can hear from anywhere. Anyways, love this song such a bop 🙏🙏🙌
I thought this song was just catchy at first, but if you really go through the lyrics and analyze the flow, this track is actually fuckin amazing. This flow could almost rival Biggie, it's actually insane.
This song could be a show of un treated schizophrenia. The granddad had an episode, possibly going on in prescribed meds, then warning his daughter to not let her son go on the same pass he had, of course the son did. He was on acid as he mentioned, the vision of his granddad could be caused by the mix of acid and his passed down schizophrenia. He quickly left due to wanting to leave. He went to the train. The devil, is a vision of the train. If you listen quite closely as he talks sounds of trains can be heard. And the description “that got bigger as i stepped, the train tracks were wet, he had a smile like he was happy” The words “bigger as he stepped, the train tracks were wet” It was the train closing in on him, or right after he had hit him the tracks were wet with soaking blood. His smile was the lights. The end :D
One of the most unique rap songs I think I've ever heard... in a good way. I wish they would come out with more music. And if they have new stuff, someone please tell me where to find it!

Perhaps the devil’s train is something that only appears after death. Could be why the devil wondered what a ‘young dude’ was doing by the tracks. The lad could’ve died, overdosed or been hit by a train. The ‘birth of sadness’ could be the grief others feel after a loved one’s death.
He probably got hit by the train
Would also make sense why he would be so creepy when he says, “You waitin on a train?”

This song is eerily relatable in a way. I used to hear train whistles every night, even though I live nowhere near a train. Even if I wasn’t at home, I would still hear the whistling of the train.
That wo7ld make alot of sence
And drugs?? That has absolutely NOTHING to do with it, right, Doctor? Thanks for your input, but, I'm gonna look elsewhere. Haha He's talking about his family's drug addictions. Read about it, or watch his interview about the song. Sheesh, what a long winded way to say you have no idea.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
My grand-pops was a man of respect, had to sweat
Just to cash checks working from sunrise to set
Every day he'd get challenged, no trades or talents
Barely scraped by, he found faith to balance
The straight line and pace, feeling worn and gray
Poor with four seeds, one more on the way
It was hard days indeed, all work and no play
He made sure things on the surface were okay, but
Something disturbin' within his mind was lurkin'
A slight twilight breeze would ease in through the curtains at night
It's like the sermon of a twisted apparition
Was urging him to listen to the train in the distance
At first it wasn't intense, just one little instance
Sure it didn't occur, he turned to resist it
As if it wasn't much more than just a figment
Of his imagination, but for days it was persistent
And it went;
"Follow me, follow me. Follow me, follow me"
Then it got louder
"Follow me, follow me. I have something to show you"
[Verse 2]
With time people noticed he was actin' berserk
Granny got a call saying he was absent from work
And that was a first
She ran to the pastor at church
To ask him what was up with this disastrous curse
But bad went to worse
He came back three days after
No money in his wallet and his shirt on backwards
Stumbling, walked awkward, he called out for his daughter
Right before he split the last lesson he taught her was this;
"If you ever have a son, let him know
That his granddad loves him, but by the time that he's grown
Be sure this seed is sown deep down into his dome;
Don't ever, ever walk to the train tracks alone"
With that, he backed up, reached out for his jacket
Told her not to act up and cracked up laughin'
After all that happened, he left, never to be seen
Fifteen years later is when my mother had me
Her dad lived a life people can't understand
Went from a family man to rambling man
A gambling man that burned both ends of the candle
Folded his hand in, it was too hot to handle
[Chorus]

Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back
Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop
Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight?
Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train
Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back
Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop
Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight?
[Verse 3]
When I was a tot, my mom dropped fables and stories
To warn me of the dangers that were layin' before me
To keep it interestin' she would hide the lesson
To guide my direction, provide the right message
In time I developed a sense of her embellishment
Since I was rebellious against what she was tellin' me
When I was a teen I pretended that my demons were friends
I defended the place, yo, and that was the case
Slurred speech drippin' off of my face
The world creeped as I slipped to the awfulest place you could imagine
Not the average things you see on acid
My granddad bloody, hovering on a speaker cabinet
Laughing in a raspy tone, covered in maggots
That snacked on his mass to the bone, I couldn't grasp it
Did a double dismount off of the couch, flipped out
Broke the closest window I found, then I dipped out
Suddenly, I discovered little voices mumbling up in my head
It had me wondering what was it my mother said
Back when I was younger, it had my brain wracked
As I stumbled off in the night towards the train tracks
[Chorus]
Sitting on the tracks waiting for the night train
Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back
Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop
Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight?

Cool that 17 years later this song is still considered a banger and is hitting main stream yet again,
I totally want to hear the story behind this song. How did they come up with it? Legends? Drugs? Dreams? It seems like it would be worth sitting down and listening to.
I wonder this myself.
Listening to it and by experience, it kind of sounds like him and his grandfather are schizophrenic
They say you meet the devil at crossroads. Wanna cut a deal?
@Sho Sekiguchi is there anyway we could talk about this?..

When you realise this song only really uses drums and pianos/keyboards.

The moral of the story is when your dad tells you make sure there's one thing you teach your son, YOU BETTER FREAKING TEACH YOUR SON THAT ONE THING!

I am generally sad that I can't find this on Spotify. I would so listen to this on loop. Such a good song
Edit: oh wow Im surprised im still getting replies 2 years later.
Let me clarify something. I don't mean episodes from podcasts uploaded by other people. Because most of the time these are uploaded without the original creator's permission and you can't save it to your own playlist.
I feel the same, but by the looks of it The Lab Rats have been out of commision for quite some time now
Unfortunately, these guys have been broken up since '07. Had a lot of good memories at shows back then. Different times, when not all the same tools were available to artists like now.
Actually you can create playlists on RUclips without premium
You can find podcasts with the song
They get taken down often though
Now 2021
That’s exactly what it was lmao this song is from the mid 2000’s
I was 1 year old
Still a banger after all these years.

My Grand-pops was a man of respect, had to sweat
Just to cash checks working from sun-rise to set
Every day he'd get challenged, no trades or talents
Barely scraped by, he found faith to balance the straight line
And pace feeling worn and grey
Poor with four seeds, one more on the way
It was hard days indeed all work and no play
He made sure things on the surface were okay, but
Something disturbin' within his mind was lurkin'
A slight twilight breeze would ease in through the curtains at night
It's like the sermon of a twisted apparition
Was urging him to listen to the train in the distance
At first it wasn't intense, just one little instance
Sure, it didn't occur, he turned to resist it
As if it wasn't much more than just a figment of his imagination but for days it was persistent
And it went, "follow me, follow me. follow me, follow me" then it got louder
"follow me, follow me, I have something to show you"
[Verse 2]
With time people noticed he was actin berserk
Granny got a call saying he was absent from work
And that was a first
She ran to the pastor at church
To ask him what was up with this disastrous curse
But bad went to worse
He came back three days after, no money in his wallet and his shirt on backwards
Stumbling, walked awkward he called out for his daughter
Right before he split the last lesson he taught her was this
"If you ever have a son let him know that his granddad loves him but by the time that he's grown
Be sure this seed is sown deep down into his dome, don't ever ever walk to the train tracks alone"
With that he backed up reached out for his jacket
Told her not to act up and cracked up laughin'
After all that happened he left never to be seen
Fifteen years later is when my mother had me
Her dad lived a life people can't understand
Went from a, family man to rambling man
A gambling man that burned both ends of the candle
Folded his hand in it was too hot to handle

Looking down the road ain't never gonna go back

When I was a tot my mom dropped fables and stories
To warn me of the dangers that were layin before me
To keep it interestin' she would hide the lesson
To guide my direction, provide the right message
In time I developed a sense of her embellishment
Since I was rebellious against what she was tellin me
When I was a teen I pretend-ed that my demons were friends
I defended the place. yo and that was the case
Slurred speech drippin' off of my face
The world creeped as I slipped to the awfulest place you could imagine
Not the average things you see on acid;
My granddad bloody hovering on a speaker cabinet
Laughing in a raspy tone, covered in maggots
That snacked on his ass with a bone(?), I couldn't grasp it
Did a double dismount off of the couch, flipped out
Broke the closest window I found, then I dipped out
Suddenly, I discovered little voices mumbling up in my head
It had me wondering what was it my mother said

So there I was, stalking through the dark with a buzz
I figured I should walk that'll ease me off of these drugs
It's like a shark had to keep movin' it's that or be ruined;
If I sat still I was doomed and that wasn't doin'
So I marched through the park slow gone(?) like Donnie Darko
The sparkle of the starlight, glowed like charcoal
Despite my demeanor
The night seemed more serene than a morphine fiend in a morgue, it seemed
Like I lost it, that was when my grand-pops carcass emerged from the dark
Gurggling his words of carnage, but he couldn't talk
Something about the birth of sadness
I scurried off, I was on the verge of madness
I raced fast pace in the landscape was strange like a plane parallel to this one but rearranged
Came to a slope to a steep, beggin' for sleep
As I climbed up taking my focus off of the creeps
Within the foggy distance I saw a silhouette that got bigger as I stepped
The train tracks were wet, I saw a shiny grin from afar like it was happy
This is what he said as he started to walk passed me
"It's a nice night for a walk, would ya mind if I joined you?"
"Do what you wanna do"
"Well that's great cause I'm going to
And not to annoy you but see I really have to ask
What a young dude like you's doin out by the tracks? *you waiting on a traaain*"
"Nah man let me explain
I'm mindin' my business so maybe you should do the same
I just been a witness to something sick and sadistic
So twistedly disgusting you should feel real lucky you missed it."
"Ooh easy with the tongue son, try to listen carefully
What you seen's scary but nothing can compared to me
I could show you things that paint all your dreams haunted
Or I could make you scream if I wanted
Or I can be the bee in your bonnet, your best-friend forever

The end :D
