90s hip hop jam‼️They we're really good at telling a story in a hop hip song. They were a breath of fresh air to 90s hip hop with their "conscious rap." Been in the situation of being taken out of character also was in the situation of riding in the back of a pickup truck 🤣.
This song made me proud of hip hop as a teenager, because we used to receive such a bad rap. Older folks hated our music, just like their parents hated rock 'n roll. But this was a song that they could rock to. Everybody liked them. If you were a fan of music, you were a fan of this group... but this song in particular brought young and old together.
@Empress. The group is originally from different cities. The Speech the founder is from Milwaukee and I believe Headliner was from Jersey. They met in the ATL while in college.
Nice! We used to kick it with this tune in Northern California back in the nineties all the time. Arrested Development were big for a couple of albums. The chorus is from Sly Stone, but the vocals were all theirs. The music fits well with the music of Spearhead and Digable Planets.
They were extremely popular. They were all over the local radio stations--rock, pop, r&b...At least in the Atlanta area during that time (I've never lived anywhere else so don't know how they did elsewhere).
This song draws from many sources and songs. Of course, there’s the Sly and The Family Stone element but the opening riff of “Budy Bye” that is repeated at the beginning is straight from a Jamaican musical artist by the name of Johnny Osbourne who has a song called “Budy Bye”. ruclips.net/video/FdAiyxO9x2U/видео.html
Oooh wee!!! Taking me back to those days when i passed my number out on twenty dollar bills. ( honestly i needed a financial adviser). I didn't burn it all and today ii am very comfortable but this was my go to jam.
This song and video was everywhere as a teen. ❤ it.

E, you drank a 40?!?! 😂😜😉 Yup, this is one of those ‘don’t make me come out my character’ cautionary tales. 😡
Never have I ever🤣 I don't think I've ever seen a 40 on real life
