    As a massage therapist I have to use this moment to share with everybody- DON’T LET ANYBODY BEAT YOU UP ON THE TABLE!! It’s absolutely within your rights to say the pressure is too deep or you just don’t like something. You’re the expert of your body and what feels good for you, and if anything is questionable ask for clarity or end it. Also this whole set is absolutely hilarious, I’ve already listened to it twice 😂😂

      File immediately for unemployment no matter how short a time you think you’ll be out of work. Some places have very strict rules about backdating, and if they have to investigate something, you’ll be less impacted by the time that takes (especially if you’re former employer only trickles information out to the unemployment people)-like don’t wait until you’re already worried about paying bills.

    i’ve gotten three massages in my adult life. the first two were women who were very accommodating and very careful about pressure and all. the third was a man who, in addition to both of those things, went out of his way to make sure that i know what the boundaries should be at baseline AND how to firmly state if i’m in pain for any future massage therapists who weren’t as attentive. his exact words were “don’t let anyone beat you up on that table.” i wish someone had said that to Josh😂

Usually those are the better more informative ones.

      @abarfriedrich5027All the cats I've owned love belly rubs, even from strangers. You could walk up to my lanky 20 pound cat right now, play with his murder mittens and rub his tummy with zero complaints. He'll just get up and walk away when he's done.
      He won't let my stepkids get close, though, because they made the mistake of throwing things at him 4 years ago while I was in a different room. He'll growl/hiss and run away. He has a "one strike ever in life" rule with them.😅

    a friend who offers a cat and gets excited about everything the cat does is *gold*
    as someone who loves cats, cats actually help people when they are depressed. They work different than dogs (dogs help too but differently) and are very independients.

    • @Thetabc24
      @Thetabc24 Month ago +27

      Dogs support you with desperation "oh no, the sad juice from your eyes, lemme lick to help". Cats are a friend that cares, but it's on their time, not yours. My one cat punches his head into your face, giving the kisses like a human cos that's human action, right?
      Scientifically cat puts at the right wavelength to heal bones and pain, that's why sometimes they pur to themselves.
      But if you find the wrong number combination of pets on sed cat, it's on you the consequences. They're free agents, they choose to care like people do.

    4:15 Most cats don’t like when you go all the way down, it’s too much sensation. Some of them don’t like their tails being pet, so a cat could definitely be okay for two pets and then be like “No dude, I don’t like that.” My girlfriend has three and they all like being pet in different spots

    • @Marliestar
      @Marliestar Month ago +12

      Yep, usually they don’t like their tail being pet. My last cat absolutely loved it. In her ears and the length of her tail 🤷‍♀️ not the base of the tail though! It took me a while to figure out because it’s exactly the opposite of what I expected. The only thing certain about a cat, is that nothing is certain. 😂

    3:50 It's static! Fun fact, petting cats can build up static electricity in their fur and give them a little shock, which causes this reaction. In general it's better to focus more on gentle scratching along the neck and behind the ears rather than long strokes to avoid building up static.

Unfortunately for me, it took a few more runaway thought-train crashes before I learned that meditation is not a method that is meant for me and how my mind works. Every now and again I still have to catch myself when I spiral (eyes wide open!) just to tell myself, "Hey, some stuff is genuinely bad right now, but until you can do your part it changing it, focus on doing good... and doing well. Let's start with getting well." 😂

      NO. This is method is not for me. Especially since my tribulations and concerns are very painfully grounded in reality.
      I've found other methods that suit my needs, so I'm better now, but I cannot be left alone in my own head for too long. My mind is ILL.

      A lot of people who have this experience do better to start with sound meditation or a guided body scan track.
      Also, overall, if one has that thought train enough times, horrific as it is, the brain CAN get bored of it and then it’s like “well this is a future fear, so this is anxiety- since this is not what’s happening right now, I can set this down” the come back to the breath again. It’s called “practicing” meditation for a reason XP

      @Sienisota Month ago +14

      I think it's because they practice on each other: The more you go to massages, the harder you need it to be for it to feel nice. They have had it done to them and like it when the pressure is hard, so they forget that when it is a first timer, you need the grips be gentle and let the client find the rhythm for breathing and such.
      First timers have difficulty relaxing muscles when it hurts a bit, and breathing in time, so it automatically hurts and they tense up. and those tensed up muscles feel like the ones needing those hard grips.

      @Sienisota as a 15 year massage therapist, no, it’s a poor teacher who follows the “heavy” deep tissue school of thought. If the muscle is not letting you in, you can’t bull your way through the tissue, that’s how you create damage. They have been taught that tight muscles need more pressure and haven’t learned yet how to let the client lead the session with their responses. You are in a fluid dance with your client, not a fight.

    • @Sienisota
      @Sienisota Month ago

      @marciaguy10899I'm not in the profession, just had had massages since I was 11, for 23 years. (I have several medical conditions with pain that can be eased with massages). And Not saying the heavy handiness is the right way, at all!
      Just that when I started as a kid, the usual massage did hurt a little, in a good way, but if something was off, I had hard time speaking up, especially when it was a new person handling me.
      This could lead into more pain after, and I never visited those places again. But I also noticed that if the massage was *too* soft, it didn't give me the pain relief I was looking for, and I had wasted my money.
      Personally for me, massages hurt in the moment, but I get weeks of life with highly redused pain after each massage. But it needs to be done hard enough for there to be an effect.
      My current massage therapist is the dream: He immediately notices if you start to tense, and lowers the power *just* enough in that spot so that you don't tense, but the muscle still gets the workout.
      He seems to instinctively know to use power in places that (for me) hurt less but need the max power for it to help. All without even speaking: He does check on me regularly during the massage, but I have no constructive feedback, as he is doing everything *just right*😁.
      TLDR massage is supposed to "hurt" in a *good way* . Always let the therapist know if the pain feels bad, ask for more or less power any time at any spot.
      Getting a suitable massage therapist often involves a bit of shopping to find a one that specialises in what you need and you get along well so you won’t stress or have trouble communicating.

    I know a cat that’s like a dog. It grew up as the vet receptionist helper after the owner abandoned it after getting nearly killed as a kitten by her adult cats. They saved its life and kept it but they quickly found out it didn’t get along with other cats at all. However, that cat absolutely loved dogs from day one. Dog could be growling at it and it would saunter up and rub on the dog like it wasn’t risking its life. That vet closed and cat went home with a vet technician that owned dogs. Besides the usual cat things like purring or climbing things it shouldn’t and jumping on counters it does everything the dogs do including go for walks on leash, play fetch, sit on command and come when called. It doesn’t play with toys that cats would be interested instead it goes for the dogs toys and chews on them and shakes them like a dog. The cat even gets in the window and barks when the dogs do. First time I went there the cat charged me and barked while swatting with its hair on end meanwhile the dogs fell back and stopped barking all like “she’s got this” 🤣🤣🤣. She keeps those boys in-line and loves wrestling with them.
