Regarding the armour you can bounce 90mm and lower of the front of the tank. Over matching will occur with guns 91mm in calibre and above. It is possible to bounce bigger guns, but only on the small patch of thicker armour on the front where the 2 track pieces are.
The armor setup on this is an automatic richochet for any AP or APCR of 90mm in caliber or less everywhere on the front. Overmatch mecanics actually require you to have 1mm higher caliber than 3x the armor value. You can quite comfortably facetank every tier 6-8 medium and a lot of the lower tier heavies and mediums. The siege mode actually also increases the effective traverse to about 33 degrees a second.
Yeah this would a varient of the British 105mm but the swedes made special ammo for it which is why the pen is so much and the tier 8 normal Swedish tank destroyer has a fixed gun to the hull aswell only the tier 9 and 10 have movable guns on the hull
For anyone that is curious about what Beardface was saying about being able to creep up on a ridge line in third person and be able to shoot sooner than if you were in sniper view, that is true and here is why. Third person will arc your shot for you versus first person shoots directly forward. The best way to understand this is to go get the Alecto and use the derp gun. The Alecto is so low that the gun will arc up like an Arty, you can often find dips in the ground that you can use auto aim to arc you gun and shoot with out exposing your tanks, you can even do this behind some rocks.
Nope the camo and bino stay active while in siege mode and turning but not driving in siege mode. Yes when tracked you can't aim anymore at all. I have not been set on fire at all yet. I actually like this but it is an extreme campy tanks. Going for camo skill first. I run the camo, bino, vents then repair kit, med kit, and their rations for the extra 10%. It is a premium so you always make money even in a bad loss. Damn thing is like a rail gun.
Equipment I would do Rammer (DPM), Binos (View Range) and Camo Net (Hidden) as their all active during Siege Mode, GLD you should be in Siege Mode 80% of the time but GLD is useful if not in Siege Mode.
Camo is too good on these. My E50 with vents, view crew skills, and coated optics couldn't see it at all until I was within 100m of him, granted he was in a bush, but he was firing the whole time and I still couldn't see him until then. It's crazy. Also I feel like if the Swedish TDs get to keep their equipment active while rotating but not moving, so should all other non-turreted TDs.
Yep, watch Sneakiest Tank in WoT by Quickybaby, UDES with camo bonuses can't be seen until 150 meters I think unless enemy has an exceptional crew. Camo is better than Scouts (or least how I feel).

The gun isn't a guarantee pen and have been bounced - aimed in - by an AT7, Tiger II, IS3 and an E75, plus a couple of others. Games have ranged from being wrecked without getting a shot off to a 5200 combined damage mastery game on Pilsen. You die very quickly if you get spotted in a Tier X game. But it's fun to play and so I like it a lot, and I don't mind the paint job. It's no worse than the Knight, Liberty or Motherland. Looking forward to the Swedish line when it comes.
Its a camping sniper, and even if you had 500mm of pen it wouldnt be guaranteed penetrarion on any tank, tracks can soak the shell, it can bounce from any tank if u hit it at a bad angle...
In Siege Mode you have incredible aim time and accuracy but limited to 5 kph (I think), in Drive Mode, you have excellent mobility but Soviet Heavy gun handling.
WELP, I am late, but 90mm gun cannot penetrate it with 100% chance. It will be about 35-50%. All guns that are less than 90mm will not penetrate it in any situation.
The armor is overmatched by 91+mm shells. The Siege mode makes it very hard to play in close quarters/city maps. That being said, it has reasonable alpha. Unless you are overextending yourself, you should manage to do your own HP's worth.
It's a turret-less tank destroyer that must use siege mode to engage people. It has 390 alpha, which is less than most tier 8 TDs... but has much better penetration. Tank destroyers (turret-less in general) do not see many opportunity to make damage. Its not like a mobile medium tank or heavy tank. They must reliably be able to inflict damage when those few opportunities occur. For instance, I do much more damage (on average) in a Mutz than a tier 8 TD.
About Overmatch a 91 mm calibre gun will overmatch (30*3+1) however theirs a small part to right of the gun which is 45 mm thick so would need 136 mm calibre gun (45*3+1). tanks.gg/tank/strv-s1/model?vm=visual
I played my first 20 games in either proving grounds or war stories just to get used to it. When it is top tier and you face the enemy you will bounce like crazy. Front towards enemy all the time.
I've always thought that the heat rounds weren't any different then ap rounds. So the super sherman has 2 different ammo types that suck against sloped armor...

#CptBeardface I feel the same way in regards to the absolutely gaudy paint job on this tank. In fact, I’m not buying it solely for that reason. Honestly, I’m not a fan of the paint jobs on a lot of the “Hero Tanks.” Personally, I’d trade a lot of them for the non hero version and pay the extra gold to put Camo on them. It’s frustrating because a lot of the hero tanks I own I either earned for free or purchased them because the standard editions a weren’t available for a couple months afterwards. It would be cool if WG had a premium tank trade in event on console like they did on PC. Thoughts?
Batico 結城 In a way yes, but the ISU-152 doesn't have the rate of fire, or more importantly, the shell velocity of the gun on the S1. It's that shell velocity that makes the difference because you barely have to lead to hit a moving target.
Honestly I think the pen kind of makes me sad for the chieftains pen more than anything. It's also got apcr on a bigger gun that similarly modern and it has less pen. Especially the premium which is awful on the chieftain.

do you want the Soviet Heavies or the Soviet TDs when the TT launches? If TD, the S1 has a similar playstyle to the UDES at Tier 8, can't go wrong with the autoloader either :)

Most Swedish TD/MBT(MBT because real life) are just fucking cheese wedges, they look so boring and generic like nothing is going on with it, its just a basic geometric shape.

However, 88 and 90mm HEAT ammunition can pen it because their autobounce angle is 85 degrees, not 70 degrees

Yup In Siege Mode I think aim time is around 2 seconds (or less) and really accurate.
Same with Normal Swedish TT.

i did the line up to tier 9 on pc nightmare until you reach tier 8 tier 7 not to shabby once you learn to use it.

yup mean the huge bloom, dislike any tank with a 3+ second aim time.
Actually Capt. borsig's 150mm heat round has little over 330 pen.

Alpha Ulfr does it need it tho? It has good mobility good accuracy and good pen for tier 8 medium.. and the shell velocity makes up for that pen.

My pershing best 90mm bounced and the 105mm from the super sherman bounced twice

Also S1 has a High Skill Cap, if your fairly new i'd say the Medium is best :)

Well the tier 6 will make more crew experience but the tier 8 will make more money as neither matter of what tank they go into

Yup Camo Net and Binos, if you move tank it resets but if still in Siege Mode, it won't reset even when the gun moves.
