The Song of Roland is an epic poem, originally sung in Old French. It tells the story of the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778. This is an English translation. Translated by Charles Kenneth Scott-Moncrieff.
That's lucky. I just started reading this and this was put up less than three weeks ago. Thank you very much rt20bg and LibriVox.
"His shield hath shattered,
twain strikes his head,
his brain doth splatter."
So beautiful.
I have heard that the weapons that Roland used came straight from heaven
+TRINITY LOBO In my (Western Civilization) history class we learned that it was a divine weapon

i had heard that the sword of roland was given to Roland by an angel.
+TRINITY LOBO The sword Durendal
It was supposedly used in the Trojan War, and later contained holy relics. I think the story goes that the angel presented it to Roland after it had been lost or something.
That's pretty good.
The translation is not that good. When something is translated from one language to another the goal it to make it understandable not lyrical.
+kraigthorne It's a balance, while I can read "All quiet on the western front" in German i definitely feel it would lose some of it's power if the translators did not try to make it adoptable to English. I would certainly be less knowledgeable if Kenneth Lee did not make understandable to me the primary sources of the Imjin War.
kraigthorne it's better translated by dorthy sayers
They call it Prose as opposed to Poetic translations. Poetic they will try to make it rhyme and still be a poem. Prose they translate it accurately so it has the same meaning. If you want it a literal translation, put Prose in your search. I can't find any Prose audiobooks of this poem on RUclips. The other video I found is the identical audiobook, the only difference is it's one 4 hour video instead of three videos.
It's perfectly understandable.
Totally are saving my life right know :) thanks
Lovely reading talent.
