This hits so different emotionally with 20 years past. It's no longer a youth realizing that 'live fast die young' isn't something to strive for. It now feels like someone looking back on that second chance, reliving that moment their life changed, and wondering if they've lived up to those promises they made to themselves that night, and teaching others to not make empty promises, don't make the mistakes they made. This song always hit me but man, it's a gut punch now.
That’s F’Real It’s a revisited perspective. Everything that’s transpired between then til now. What did you live for? How did it shape you? Did you make it? Giving you a second chance. I hope that I will never let you down. It’s a message to your future self from the past
This song inspired me to quit my Job (Civil engineer) and become a career firefighter, which in Germany are often EMT´s or paramedics. And it´s the sound of my teens. So glad that i rediscovered thrice through Black Honey. Won´t go as far as to say they saved my life, but the music pushed me through some really rough times.
I had zero idea that this album was being re-recorded and basically re-imagined. Absolutely unreal, have waited so long to hear a new "studio" version of this song.
Best record EVER. This album came out the day after I got kicked out of the family home.. so, the first day where I got my s#!tty apartment. That CD became my only possession. I've listened to it soooo much. I needed that feeling Thrice created... it literally saved my life when I thought it wasn't worth living. I am so grateful for this album. If not for it, I would never have met my wife, never would have kids... I would have missed everything. Thank you so much, THRICE!
I love the lyric change from "can we pick you off the ground?" to "you can pick me off the ground," along with the melody there. Very beautiful, reimagined song.
Could not have said it better, from 2 days ago did not expect the song to sound more mature like this, i legit thought they just uploaded song maybe made a change or two but nope, only change was we got older.
This album got me through high school and is still my top album. I am forever grateful. As an adult now with a kid of my own it really feels like it's come full circle and it's still emotional as ever. Love you, Thrice. This revisited album is amazing.

My freshman year of high school I took a theatre class. To break stage freight, the teacher asked us to pick a song to sing in front of the class. I chose the intro to this song. Artist in the Ambulance is the most influential record I’ve ever heard in the 30 years that I’ve been fortunate enough to have music in my life. It was very unfortunate that the mixing engineer did such an injustice to the record at the time, but the quality of the musicianship wasn’t lost despite it. That being said. It is a privilege beyond words to be able to experience the record the way it ought to have been mixed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for releasing this. See you in Toronto!

It will never be forgotten especially with this new amazing revisit.

Lyrics
Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop, so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I
Feel an angel lift me up
And I open bloodshot eyes
Into fluorescent white
They flip the siren, hit the lights
Close the doors, and I am gone
Now I lay here owing my life
To a stranger, and I realize
That empty words are not enough
I'm left here with the question of just
What have I to show except
The promises I never kept?
I lie here shaking on this bed
Under the weight of my regrets
I hope, that I will never let you down
I know, that this can be more than just
Flashing lights and sounds
Look around and you'll see that at times
It feels like no one really cares
It gets me down, but I'm still gonna try to
Do what's right, I know that there's a
Difference between sleight of hand
And giving everything you have
There's a line drawn in the sand
I'm working up the will to cross it
And I hope, that I will never let you down
I know, that this can be more than just
Flashing lights and sounds
Rhetoric can't raise the dead, I'm sick of always talking
When there's no change
Rhetoric can't raise the dead, I'm sick of empty words
Let's lead, and not follow
Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop, so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I
Feel an angel steal me from the
Greedy jaws of death and chance
And pull me in with steady hands
They've given me a second chance
The artist in the ambulance
I hope, that I will never let you down
I know, that this can be more than just
Flashing lights and sounds
Can we pick you off the ground?
