exactly this. come on David. cater to ALL the tetris community. 38 is younger than a lot of the OG from Ecstasy era, and its not like a 30 or 40 something yr old cant use their hands properly still. You know i love your work. and i swear Im not butt hurt because i AM over 38 myself. The elite playing ranks all skewed down to below 22 in the last 6 yrs, we know . But I cant help but think this video opener is framed from the perspective of that target grp (13-21)
@@Yeargdribble only in the context of the Tetris scene ;) It’s not that 38 is old, but it’s impressive to compete at the level he does when the current world champ is 15
@@aGameScout yeah, sports and esports in general - any competition where you need dexterity or other physical skill has traditionally had difficulty getting people over 30-35 represented at the top level. AoE2 is breaking out of that age range pretty well i think
I love that he is realistic about what DAS can do but still sticks with it because that's what's fun for him. Must be cool getting front row seats to the next generation of competitive players, too!
I think it might have to do with longevity. Hypertapping is very hard and not sure how nasty rolling is for hands. With DAS and cool nerves player can basically be physically able to play for very long time.
just wanted to mention, matt got a das 1.3 million score a couple weeks ago! it's basically _the_ top tier achievement in the das playstyle and he's at ninth place on the das leaderboards. (funnily enough, another older, well loved community member, who goes by themistervalor, also got a slightly higher 1.3 around the same time - so matt isn't alone! old school das players can absolutely still compete with the younger generation, playstyle being equal at least :)
Matt Martin, an absolute class act and just all around genuine good dude. Happy to see him featured and get the recognition that he deserves. Great video!
I’ll be 41 in a few days and never stopped loving Tetris. Learning modern Tetris and how to t-spin and openers and other techniques made me love it even more. LETS GO MATT
Must be nice making a minidoc on somebody and being able to use footage that shows yourself playing (and winning) :D So grateful for you putting classic Tetris in the RUclips spotlight and making me root for a scene that I probably would've never heard of.
As someone who has met Matt at multiple events, I can confirm that he is as amazing a person as everyone says. Such an amazing guy and such a blessing for the community
When I first got into Nes Tetris back in 2020 Matt was one of the first streamers I watched, his warm and welcoming energy is so similar to Jonas and I still make sure I get to speak to him through the chat when he streams, great video as always Scout!
You got a real talent Scout, not only are your videos always super well structured and entertaining but also very moving emotionally, for me at least. You deserve all the success going forward! I'm thankful for being able to feel like part of this community of great people.
Matt is one of the sweetest, amazing and caring people Ive met, Ive had the pleasure of meeting him 4 times already, and each and every single time is a blast, genuinely love that guy!
Come for the game and stay for the people... Scout you have managed to capture a beautiful and genuine community so well again. Love this video so much
The pure love from a community that knows that what it does is a little bit silly is tremendous, and your videos are always a little hit of dopamine and joy in a world that doesn't have enough of the good stuff.
It's insane, with every new video I'm more and more convinced that the tetris community has to be the most wholesome, supportive e-sports community out there
what a nice photo at 3:08 with dog, pixel andy, blue scuti, alex t,hydrant dude, cheez, eric icx, fractal and others as well...those new kids are the future of this game and this community
Great featuring other players story! I feel bad for Matt a bit, it's like an adult showing up to a pokemon tournament and everyone is 10 years old. Sounds like he's a great guy and glad he's still part of the community! Masters (for old folks :D) tournament when?
What a great showcase of Matt's participation in the game. Nice to see the younger community taking the challenge seriously and the way they've transformed the game. I'm a DAS player too (ie: older! Haha) but I've been watching this modern progression for some time now, and have really been enjoying it. Good luck to all the up and coming players (and the older guys of course !) Great video.
I don't think the age-narrative without context is too fortunate. There are reasons why young players are more successful, without telling these reasons it just becomes another "young is better than old" story, which is one of the useless divisive narratives of our time. I don't believe there's any bad intention here, but some explanation would be useful. Tetris is not something one can make a living from, and it takes a lot of practice to be among the best. If you're an adult, you are the one who needs to create the conditions to do that, and if you're a kid, it's mostly done by your parents. As life goes on, you get more and more things to take care of, and only a few can stay in the maistream. Joseph for example didn't pause his Tetris career because he got old, but due to other important commitments in life. I'm not really complaining, I just easily get triggered by one-liner narratives of the zeitgeist. :)
I met Matt at Lonestar a month ago and he was definitely one of my favorite people there. He's such a sick dude with a super positive attitude and made me feel super welcome at my first in person tournament. He's such a sick guy and an incredible DAS player I aspire to be as good as one day. Super glad you made a piece on him Scout :)))
Matt is certainly something else. First time I went to an in person tournament was a month ago at CTM Lonestar and he was by far one of the nicest people I met there. Plus his DAS is actually incredible.
I love Matt ❤ Just a really down to Earth guy who is an incredible DAS player, who recently got a 1.3M with DAS. That is an amazing accomplishment. Loved him rocking the Blue Scuti shirt 😂
your vidoe documentaries are always so well produced! i’m always so excited when you post a video because i know the script, b-roll, and interviews are going to be fantastic! i’m new to the community so it was a pleasure and so nice to learn about matt through this video! speaking of, which discord does the NES tetris community usually gather in? there are multiple linked in your video description but i’m not sure which to join. thank you for making such well produced informational videos on the tetris community!!
I'm nearly 60 and only know DAS, thus am forever stuck at a scoring plateau, which shows no signs of improving no matter what I do. Hats off to anyone his age still giving it a go!
We love Matt
Matt is pretty much the grandpa of Tetris
W matt
W matt
Keep on going Matt!
As a man in my 40s, I'm not sure how to feel about "an ASTOUNDING 38 years-old" as a descriptor.
Right? It’s not that old. 🤦🏻♂️

@@vksasdgaming9472 Let's just say there's a reason everyone you see rolling is wearing a glove.
The reason they wear gloves is that they reduce the friction between the fingers and the controller, so it makes the timing of inputs more consistent

Watched this video while on my way to this year's Kansas City regional; Matt is such a genuine dude, and I can't wait to meet him this weekend!
hope it's an awesome time!
Haven't finished watching yet, but gotta say we now NEED a Tetris Masters cartoon with Matt's characters. Those were awesome.
Like Carbot for StarCraft! Love that idea!
There will always be that one old guy in the community that can keep up with the Zoomers
A few of them are gen alpha, including the first to ever beat Tetris.
Welcome to being old.
Sincerely,
A Gen X Tetris fan 😹
Experience? Lord.
Matt Martin is a generational human being
Your commentary was genuinely excellent at this event, hope you get to do it more

i read the title as inmoral and i thought he was bullying teenagers

Thanks for this lovely portrait of a lovely guy! He is NOT old! 😇
Matts final words of the video really hit me... RIP Jonas

One of the most dedicated players and a top guy!
Another great vid Scout!

"An astounding 38 years old!" That hurt my soul. I'll just go rot in a field somewhere and wait for the crows to come.
I played Matt m in my first year of competing in online tournaments. Matt irl is such a good guy talking to him was so much fun and cool to be around.
He seems like a really nice guy. Wishing him the best!

Blue Scuti is a roller… and he took it too literally with the quick rolling of the suitcase 5:34
>An ASTOUDING 37 years old

My 35 year old ass :(
just keep in mind it's all graded on a curve! You'd be considered astoundingly young on a typical pickleball court
Fantastic profile of a wonderful human.

Rebirth soon! I'm glad NES Tetris has gotten popular over the last year's
Have to watch gamescout videos alone cause they're always bringing a tear to the eye!
Glad to see the old school players coming back. Gotta show those young whippersnappers you still got the skills.

14:30 WOAH

Dirty secret about Matt Martin. He doesn't play Escape Simulator.

Koryan is in his mid-40s now. I'm 43, and not too bad at Tetris myself. I could probably learn rolling if I put some time into it. Just too lazy. LOL
