  • Hello, Thanks for watching, a little time back Callum DX Commander and I ‪@mike-M0MSN‬ were discussing a way in which, it may be possible, to find an individual that was causing intentional QRM. Having given this some thought I have come up the the idea of a DF loop similar to that used by wire framed antennas.
I have based this loop on a video I watched from
    Paul OM0ET ( / omoet )
This is a great build video: • 5-band FRAME ANTENNA -...
However Paul's antenna is for general use on multiple bands I have adapted it for use on 80M only.
    What you will need:
    Plastic pipe: Two lengths 1: 25mm Dia x 74cm, 2: 25mm Dia x 100cm.
Loop length: 16.92 Metres of DX10 (you will need 25 metres to be sure).
Counterpose: 5 metres(or the remainder of the wire).
Short length of coax and a SO239.
    Small terminal connector.
Find the centre of the short length of pipe and drill a 3mm hole, offer this pipe up to the other 100cm pipe, so that one end of the short pipe is at the end of the long pipe (side by side) then mark the hole across to the longer pipe, and drill a 3mm hole, you should now have a 3mm hole 37 cm from the end of each pipe. This is the centre of your cross. On the 100cm pipe draw a line at 37cm from the hole (on the longer side) as this will form the end of the wire frame, you should have 26cm of pipe left under this mark to mount the connectors and stand.
Next mark 9 holes 1cm a part starting at the ends towards the middle of each pipe (use the 37cm mark on the longer pipe) drill and then start to wind the wire. Start winding the wire from the hole closest to the middle on the longest side of the longest pipe.
As clear as mud ( just watch the video)
I will continue to look into DF Loops and if I find a better one I will update and make it, If you have any designs or have any DF antenna knowledge please feel free to drop me a line.
    Cheers and good luck.
Please note: Your mileage may vary and this antenna does not guarantee success.

I have yet to test this out Mike but I'm thinking of sticking it in the field on a rotator! Heck, we have enough coax / control cable!

Would this size of antenna work only for receive on 160m band with 75Ohm coax?

Interesting and useful project, I'll have to check to see if there is a follow-up to see how it worked out in practice.

Instead of threading the whole length of wire through each hole, start with the halfway portion of the wire from the middle hole and thread one end of the wire out from there to the centre and the other end of the wire from there to the outside.

PS - I suppose I could also try it on 40m, heck!

    Hi Mike,
Greetings from Ray, M0RAY in JO01II Land,
I've been following all of your videos with the greatest of interest for some considerately long time including those of you with our friend Callum.
As many have hopefully become known to realise, most of your Amateur Radio Construction work has been to do with loops of various designs. It's great to see that you have given mention to Paul, OM0ET as well who I also follow & also have great respect for.
However, as your Aerial/Antenna team mate may appear to many, as it does me also, as being Callum of DX Commander, Have you ever thought about using the sudo name of "Mag Loop Commander, or MagLoop Commander".?
I just wish that I had your engineering skills in order to produce what you do, Especially those lovely Variable Capacitors which you manage to produce for & as part of your magnetic loops.
I frequently pass by your QTH area on my way to & from my friends up in Birkenhead approximately 4 times a year, and It would be great to meet you at some point. I have already been to the DX Commander QTH at Holly Farm on my way home from my friends in Birkenhead when I purchased some goodies from him earlier this year. I often wonder if you would sell any of your home made Variable Capacitors.
    Kind Regards,
    Ray, M0RAY.

Finding QRM sources is a great mission. I hope that antenna helps and, if it does, then let's see a few more made and deployed at strategic QTHs (compass-wise) in order to allow rapid triangulation.

@@mike-M0MSN is it just using a shorter wire?

    • @mike-M0MSN
      @mike-M0MSN  4 месяца назад +1

@@cacher7745 yes you will need to scale down the antenna, use 1.8/ 2M of wire or something like that. Let me know how you get on..

Where the dimensions, turns etc calculated?
What's needed for 40m? Half the wire?
Actually I want a bearing on an frequency sweeping ionosonde (I think that's what it is). There are several. The one I want starts at 5Mhz and sweeps up to 14Mhz+.
    Will this antenna receive this?

Nice work Mike, probably a bit of qrp might be safe. 73.

Super glue doesn't work on PVC pipe. I would use plastic mender epoxy. Better is a a PVC spider fitting.
