Hey Phi, just wanted to say I genuinely dont mind longer videos, 30-45 mins is a good watch for me. I may be a minority in saying so, but the more matches and insight I can get, the better
Yeah, same, anything above that might be a little hard to make time for, at least for me, but anything up to the 30-40 minute time frame is great. Less is also fine! I really just want each video to be however long it needs to be.
Hey PhiDX! I was the Dragunov you faced in the video :)) Super stoked to have faced you and I am extremely happy that you thought I was a decently skilled player. I learned a lot from watching this over, and I think I know now where to focus in order to improve. Thank you so much for the kind words, and I hope to face you again some day!!
Was having a terrible time playing Tekken 8 online and against my better judgement decided to watch this video. If nothing else it improved my mood and made me want to play the game even more, keep up the good work. You are a positive beacon of light in the community regardless of what some may say.
I'm loving this series. It's nice to see the thought process you go into learning a new character. Also appreciate these videos being lengthier as it gives some time to crunch the information and see it in action. Keep on doing what you do, can't wait to see my main in a PP vid whenever that happens ^^
I'm a Raijin Jin main so I'm glad to see this. I've been using your videos since day one of T8 to break my cycle of "not being dope online" in this series so surely this will help me. Thanks I needed this!!!
Thank you. i have been playing him since tekken 3 and he is amazing in this current game format. Im loving your series of lets try this character because everyone can play with theory, but the application side of things is what is missing from a lot of discussion in fighting games today keep up the good work.
Between this and the 3-move Nina Challenge, you're creating some real blue and purple rank monsters Phi, but I'm all for these PP series! As a Jin main, watching you completely de-construct his T8 game-plan and still be surprised when it worked as well as it did was hype as 😂 EDIT: Would LOVE to see a series on Raven or Lee, those guys have such ridiculous (and cool) skill plateau's and ceilings
As a responsibility-having adult I would like to petition a definitive pp tier list at the end of this series, with biggest to smallest pp rankings based on personal enjoyment of the characters.
Lol. The easy "you will never drop this combo" combo tech is something I uploaded a video about on my other account during the beta but no one watched it so I just deleted it. 😢 I think I named it "Even a beginner can do these Jin combos" or something 😂
Why is everyone hating on Jin? Not everyone is like your blue or purple rank jin spamming buttons though. It's like hating on asuka spamming sabaki in low ranks.
Backdash endlessly against Jin to make him whiff and sidestep when you can: 2-1 gets beaten by either backdashing on non delay, or gives you a bigger punish if you sidestep the delayed 4. Blocking 4 automatically ends Jin's turn Ff2 auto ends Jin's turn and has 0 tracking on immediate timing (so without realignment) Both hits of B2-1 end his turn too Df1 all zen transitions. It beats everything, except zen 2 which can be ducked and launched after df1 connects. The only exception is bf2-3 (where zen u1 beats df1) and maybe 3-1 but I don't remember for sure Df2->meme eyes gets beaten by duckjab. Depending on the option Jin chooses you can get a better punish, but duckjab beats everything And most importantly react to Jin's lows. Lab it and it won't be that hard, at least for d2 which will automatically filter 80% of T8 Jin players. Same applies to his slower moves like ff3 and zen 4 Also mashing your quick ws moves after d2 hits isn't a bad option since most Jin players will try to capitalize on +4 by doing a slower move (which will lose them frames due to crouching-standing transition)
i dont know how to describe it but if you plan to do more jin theres a good tech to teach people. after the screw in a combo, do down forward 3,3 and hold down forward and you can hit anyone with the 1 version out of the electric slide. the only way to stop it is to quick stand and it'll get blocked but you are also able to do a hell sweep and turn it into mind games
It can also be interrupted by toekick, which if the jin player gets a read on, it can be floated with his ws4 for a mini combo. It's a 3 way mind game, not exactly 50/50
What’s with some of these comments? We like the idea of a public forum in principle, but when you watch a professional-level player try a character and convey his honest opinion, please show some respect. He’s higher than you in the information hierarchy and at least deserves the benefit of the doubt. When professionals complain about the top characters, the expected corresponding data point is their win% vs these characters (not players) is skewed a few percentage points on average in the pilot’s favor. If you’re consistently losing to a character, it’s either a knowledge issue (go practice) or an actual skill issue (go practice). That’s it. Unless you’re a top 0.01% player, in this game, no other excuses are valid. If you want to noobstomp, pick Eddy or Hworang. If you want to win more easily up to TK, play Alisa or low-playrate tricksters (Zafina, Bears). If you want to win twt top8: be one of the world’s best players, play out of your mind tournament after tournament, get lucky multiple times and pick one of the best characters in the game to slightly improve your odds. Nothing is free. Your complaints are a display of ignorance, not wisdom. Do better. Much respect, Phi. Keep up the good work.
@@willywonka2808 I assumed it was common knowledge that even the world’s best players routinely lose to specialists playing low tier characters. The reason you see them in top 8s at tournament after tournament is they still win more games than they lose against these and all other players. It really does become a statistics thing once you factor in a year’s worth of tournaments. What do you think the spread actually is? And how should we measure it? What we would need to measure, specifically, is the impact of character choice alone on top level win rate over the span of, say, a year of tournament play. And isolating character choice from confounders is no easy feat.
I would love to see Leo! Also whats your tip on defending against other players frame trap. Specifically if the opponent constantly does a frame trap move like dragunov SNK 4 OR Bryan B+1 spam
But but, according to MainManSWE, Jin is stupidly broken and carries you to GoD by himself, no skill needed, hes basically Tekken King for free, just spam d2, strongest move in the game bla bla
Thanks phi, I know you mentioned you like playing steve. Can you do an educational video on how to play Steve atleast for opening up opponents. Ppl don't respect his lows and just mid guard all day
A little tip for everyone playing Jin. Doing his 1,2,4 string after EWHF launch (making sure the jab cross whiffs) does more damage than doing EWHF EWHF and is much easier.
Watch replays and figure out what bad habit I'm leaning on. Sometimes it's knowing the matchup but other times it's likely something you're relying on too much.
What character/s do you mainly play and what prowess? In general, labbing common characters you struggle against is good and maybe even watch their guide or even play them tbh. But for habits on your own main, for me it was "always do the right habits even if you suck" cuz with practice and eventual muscle memory you will get it right (I main kazuya). If you're just in a slump, I'd suggest a 3-4 day break or a week like i did, and i played well again because it helped reset mental and stuff.

Lol honestly i LOVE hour+ videos, but thatd make me tbe MAJOR minority; so I said 30-45mins as a nice middle ground
i love the part where jin says ‘its tekken time’
