Around 76 or so they switched to electronic ignition although sometimes people retrofit the points. Check the vacuum advance is working properly and a proper points gap with a new condenser. Check the coil also. Beautiful work as usual. Thanks!
Its been a while since I did a rubber bumper car, but I'm pretty certain by doing the cross member swop (assuming what you put in was a chrome bumper) you effectively return the ride hight at the front to the way it was designed before US crash regulations. There are lowering blocks you can buy for the rear to put the ride hight back to as designed and remove the rear anti roll bar as per original deign, it transforms the handling of the car and they look a lot better two. If both cars are rubber bumper, I highly recommend lowered front springs, lowering blocks at the rear and no anti roll bar. The handling difference between chrome and rubber bumper cars is night and day. I went through two sets of rubber bushings before going to poly all round for the same reason, the rubber are all crap from any supplier, now I'm slowly putting a few rubber back as although the car has incredible handling, it is a little hard. Rear spring pads are a good one to keep rubber as they are so easy to replace.
Ross well done with the work so far. I feel your pain with the rubbish reproduction parts some are absolute crap. I wanted to change the chrome bumpers on mine bought new ones at great expense, when they arrived didn't fit properly, paper thin garbage had my originals re chromed. Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next instalment.
Gutted for you but got to be something simple on the engine as always is. Great work on front suspension and mgb looking good . Keep at it and good luck !!
@@Endfloat ideal Ross I’ll be tuned it tho more beetle content aswell needed 👍 I just uploaded a few new ones this week as channel finally taking off . Ben Lawrence I knew from VZI forums day and youst to play call of duty . When you next see him ,ok to say andycoco said hi
You have a great looking GT there and will be well worth the effort of getting it to run properly. One thing you can check is to make sure there is not a vacuum building up in the fuel tank. The gas cap should be properly vented and you should not hear any hissing sound when you loosen it. Just a thought.
Breaking this Into two parts over my lunch break and totally understand the rant about modern parts, especially fuel lines, I know from another channel of a chap that had to replace the fuel lines on his classic and they had not been on very long either! As you say I would have thought the little rubber boots would have lasted longer as the parts have been kept away from the elements. Will catch up with the last 30 minutes later on.
Will not go into the final, unexpected engine failure, which will have been sorted out in the meantime, but just on brake bleeding. Once calipers, cylinders and hoses are refurbished or renewed there will always remain tiny bubbles of air inside after a first bleeding job with the Ezibleed guess how I know. It is best to bleed the calipers at the front after driving the B for a short while: the suspension movements will shake the air loose from the internal surfaces and this will assemble at the top of the calipers, where the bleed nipples are located. Pedal bleeding for this short rebleed works just fine. At the rear this is less of an issue IMHO 🙂 BTW sympathetic way of registering the learning moments we all can benefit from 👍
Joy and pain. Well at least you enjoyed the gig. The MG isn't singing "You got a Friend".. I got mine going Ross, a bit lumpy. I'll be giving Ben a call also, got his number from your other video. He's not far from me.
Love the MGB. When I was fourteen I got a Saturday job washing cars at a MGB dealers. The wings were so curvy and smooth they were just how I imagined the thighs of a fair maiden to be.
Hey Ross, another good video. Did you ever manage to check what type of door speakers you have fitted? Mine are shot but not easy to find new ones with cones that aren't too deep they hit the window winding mechanism. I'd appreciate if you could get me know the make and the speaker diameter? Cheers!
Hi sorry, I know you asked me that before. I had a look at the outside of them and it's just a little speaker icon in the middle and I didn't remove one yet. I reckon they were standard fitment speakers. There should be a decent selection of shallow door speakers available though.
Ross a suggestion for all the classics. Millers VSPE power plus. Been running it with my air cooled engines last two years can’t recommend it enough to anyone with classic cars. Maybe worth a video to review it! Available in Halfords.
Reduced pinging in my aircooled engine. Have noticed smoother running also. It protects the fuel lines as it has stuff in it to combat the ethanol in todays fuels.
Quite simply the best blog on mgb issues I’ve encountered to date.
Please keep going.
Thank you very much! I will indeed!
A outstanding restoration and presentation as always.
We are also getting very poor quality MGB rubber replacement parts here in the USA too.

Good Job, I rebuilt my calipers and got the new one rings for the calipers from Moss-europe.
Great video Ross, a great series so far, just a Shame the MG let you down, but I know you will get her running sweet.

Oh it does my head in! Where's the quality gone?
@@Endfloat I would rather more a bit more and get quality parts, very annoying as it is.

The next video sees me getting to the bottom of the issue, or at least closer to the mark!

That's a good idea about the fuel tank venting actually. Thanks. I must check that.

Lol! Bloody Hell! Cut it off when all else fails! Been there.😂
Plug fouling ; dry black soot = too rich, wet black = oil.
