Aziz Mian was the only qawwal to have a double M.A in philosophy and Urdu literature. He was very well versed in Islamic mysticism. He read Ibn E Arabi's fusoos ul hikam from Maulana Abdus Sattar. Have always wanted to see his interview, sadly very few available , want to listen to him for hours , i am quite sure his radio interviews or someone recording him for a long duration of time on audio will be availble somewhere and will comeup sooner or later , audio archives of lutfullah khan should have more of his work hoepfully
He was an intensely private person. If you Google Nadeem paracha -Aziz Mian and Dawn. You would get some material. It was also general’s ZIA MARSHALL LAW TIME and he banned his famous qawalli from TV as well as in public owing to his respective sharabi, sharabi. He was an extremely polite, civilized human being, very colorful personality. I was a college student at that time, and left Pakistan for USA. My son who is born in USA and had no practical knowledge of Urdu is mesmerized by this unique way of singing. May Allah bless his soul. Interestingly, that was the golden period of qawwali. Rarely a Qawwal like Aziz Mian is born in this world. I always get lost in whenever I listen to many of his qawwalis because there's always a message in them. His qawwalis are mostly for "समजनेवालो समझ लेना समजसे काम मत लेना".

Someone made a nice comment here. yes, that was a different Pakistan where people were more civilized, polite and well behaved. The trains almost ran punctually, and we had lesser road and train accidents. The bureaucracy was bit more responsible and I believe our budgets were more or less balanced. I think we had nonsense and cultural shock injected after the violent and bloody overthrow of Ayub Khan and later with the systematic erosion of the so called democratic and erratic leaders and it is a very long story. during this time period, we had a huge migration of educated and talented people to foreign countries, the details of all is not hidden to all of us now.
Shame on Anwar Maqsood for making every joke personal and about Aziz Miyan’s weight and number of children. What a classless individual Anwar turns out to be here.
