I feel like, the few people that listens to this song, are in a way connected. We are not like everybody else, we understand what the band is trying to say in a way that not other people do

Came to this lyric video to see what that fuzzy phone-call was saying properly, and it’s quite interesting and haunting. It’s hard to make out entirely what the voice message was about, but it seems as though it’s an old friend calling up and offering to rekindle an old project (or “recording” as it says in the lyrics) of some sort, as well as perhaps start over with their friendship. A few people have mentioned it, but it is eerily familiar how the message in the song mirrors Carlos and Paul’s relationship at the time in the band, and how they were growing apart. “Our Love To Admire” the same album this song was a bonus track on, also marked the first album that Carlos wanted to work separately from Paul in the studio, and they just further grew apart from there. A lot of accounts, as well as the band members themselves, say the two never really got along, but maybe this song’s message, among other things, is that Paul really did care and was saddened by growing apart from Carlos. Maybe he really did mean a great deal to Paul. On another note, there’s a rumour that this is supposedly a real phone message left before someone’s suicide, but I can neither confirm or deny that. Interesting stuff.

Paul confirmed it's a real recording by a friend of his who at some point died. Really moving either way.

It’s a voicemail that Paul left for a friend that he couldn’t meet with because he was busy and then the friend passed away and that’s what the song is about

      @@junosounds Wow, I didn't know, that's sad.
But it can also fit with the Carlos-Paul topic
