Basque history is most definitely intriguing. You sound like you’re about beside yourself.

Mirador de las Tres Cruces, based on the geographical description. We're considering settling in Brittany for some of the same reasons you describe about this region, but not quite as exotic. It does have a more agreeable climate for us pasty north westerners. Also would be a decent place to explore Europe while we are still young enough to do it. Including the Pyrenees - Spain & Portugal, Italy, Scandinavia, etc., etc., etc.

Absolutely spot on, mate! Well spotted. I'm sure you'd love it here, but (and I know I'm biased), I find the Basques infinitely more friendly than the French. 😆

@@TheAmbulatoryAnarchist Our experience in Paris vs. small towns and villages in Brittany were like night and day in that regard. Making an honest effort to speak French was well received, and made a big difference. It also lacked the saccharin "friendliness" that my curmudgeoly-self loathes in the US. Animo!

Beautiful mountains and forests there. Interesting people. Great food and cider. And from what i remember there were plenty of fat little ponies and tall creepy looking buzzards standing around. At least where i was. I had a bit of trouble with the Spanish border guards. Apparently because of my beard they thought i was a separatist. When they realized i was American we had a good laugh about it. Loved the place and the people. I can understand why you would want to live there.
